SMSR - 8 Red Coins of the Pond - 0x A Presses
updated
This one is probably not worse than 7B, but it requires a completely different type of nerve control, which is why I rate this one as more difficult than 7B.
It's funny actually, I had been stuck on 192 berries for ages, and I thought for sure this one would be the 201th, but hey, I guess sometimes you have to jump the gun.
based on a true story
This brings the total A press count for 130 star from 99 to 98.
Since then I had a realization that, perhaps changing the route could lead to an A press save. Previously the star had been cloned inside the ring underneath the blue/white checkered Bob-omb platform, as I had no idea at the time how to escape it with no additional A presses. However, I realized that using the ring Pedro spot I could send Mario towards the rocket platform.
This allowed the final ring to be a different ring instead, namely the one that previously used a Pedro spot from the ground level to reach. This route instead clones the star using this ring. This is done by hands-free grabbing a clone to reach the ring, then dust is generated on the slope in the ring to get the right vacant slot to clone the star.
The a presses are as follows:
#1: To get onto the cannon
#2: To fire the cannon to get to the upper area
#3: To jump from the fourth ring back to the upper area
Thanks to:
Marbler, for figuring out a way to clone the star in the final ring: youtube.com/channel/UCkkl8jzlB6sJDSqCXAR3pcw
And, SR for figuring out how to get the Bob-omb in a position on the satellite that allowed getting past it:
youtube.com/channel/UCNhkopSlGJ9yTCAALEhyrTA
This was apparently already done by SR earlier, although I didn't catch it because it wasn't on the 130 star ABC doc: youtu.be/ycHseX26kQE
Since then we figured out you can save 1 A press by simply jumping to higher spot on the first jump. I also show in the video that there is a misalignment on the top platform which could potentially save 1 more A press. It's a height of 200 units, so it would reach with a DR, however the angle to the misalignment is very tricky, so I couldn't pull it off.
The A Presses are as follows:
#1: To jump from the slippery slope to the second square platform.
#2: To jump from the second square platform to the fourth square platform.
#3: To jump onto the brown moving bar.
#4: To jump further up on the moon.
#5: To jump to the star platform.
Since then I figured out how to pass the pole at the end by doing a quite precise dive recover onto the giant star next to it, from here we can ZB bounce to the exit!
The A presses are as follows:
#1: To jump from the brown moving bar and further up the tower
#2: To jump to the top of the tower

Thank you Jongyon for all the info, and actually putting the inputs down in an m64 lol.
Jongyon: youtube.com/user/jongyon7192p
Why are these two stars combined you may wonder. Well the truth is that you can't get to 100 coins or get the red coins without going up top, and going up top requires 2 a presses, so therefore this is the most efficient way of doing it in a full game run.
The a presses are as follows:
#1: To get to the cannon.
#2: To shoot the cannon to get to the higher area.

Found this HSW spot ages ago, but haven't put it to use yet, here we go though!
Improvement of YO_WUZ_UP's run in 3x: youtu.be/3h9HMgN6ZUA
This star actually had a 0x strat for a very long time made by dar gos, it was over 4 hours long and used PU movement, which is really cool. I was thinking though that IU movement (Induvidual Universe) could make it possible to do it in way less time. And that's this strat here. I go to a HSW spot and build up speed for only 6 minutes this time. From here I move Mario like this: https://i.imgur.com/yaI8wF4.jpg which allows Mario to get enough height to make it to the star platform in 0x a presses!
Sorry for the audio desync, weird stuff happens sometimes when recording that causes desync... :/

I collect the star "Aim the Turret" in 4 a presses. This is an improvement over Inkstar's run which collected this star using 14 a presses. You can find that video here: youtu.be/utnccFKzIak
The improvement comes from a lot of different little things. Firstly we can use a pedro spot instead of the cannon to get the first ring above dome. Secondly we can get three rings at once if we drop down from below. And thirdly we can actually get back to the top from the fourth ring. Also, fourthly, we can use a bob-omb to clone the star meaning we only fire the cannon once. Interestingly we never fire the cannon towards any rings, so we never actually "aim" the turret lol.
The a presses are as follows:
#1: To jump from the pedro spot to the first ring
#2: To get onto the cannon
#3: To fire the cannon to get to the upper area
#4: To jump from the fourth ring back to the upper area
.m64 stats:

The a presses are as follows:
#1-#3: To get to the balcony
#4-#6: To get to the pipe
#7-#8: To get to the top of the level
#9-#10: To get to the replica star
.m64 stats:
Length: 50.5 seconds
Frames: 3032 (1500 input)
Re-records: 1111
The improvement comes from it being possible to get onto the pipe using a misalignment, and actually using only a sideflip (with a glitchy wallkick) to get to the top, saving 1 a press!
The a presses are as follows:
#1-#3: To get to the balcony
#4-#6: To get to the pipe
#7-#8: To get to the top of the level
.m64 stats:
Length: 40.5 seconds

I collect the star in "Hidden Palace Finale" using 9 a presses. This is an improvement of the previous video which collected this star using 11 a presses. You can find that video here: youtu.be/DmG2Gu2wq_s
The improvement comes from the fact that we can use the roof to get over to the balcony instead of going on the floating platform. This saves 2 a presses.
The a presses are as follows:
#1-#3: To get to the balcony
#4-#6: To get to the pipe
#7-#9: To get to the top of the level
.m64 stats:
Length: 40.5 seconds

Since then I realized that you can just framewalk on the very steep parts of the slope, albeit a lot slower than on the non steep one, which allows us to reach the upper part of the stage using 0x a presses opposed to one. Aswell as that I saved one a press off of the highest piranha plant by using a misalignment which allows us to reach that piranha plant using 1 a presses opposed to 2. Aswell as this you can use some twirl speed conservation to reach the last piranha plant in 0.
The A Presses are as follows:
#1: To reach the second highest piranha plant
#2: To reach the highest piranha plant

Since then I figured out that you can simply just use a small Goomba staircase consisting of 4 goomba clones and we can bounce our way up! This does however require about 30 seconds of frame-walking in order to get up to the top of the target to release the clone. But all in all, pretty sweet strat, even though it does take 8 minutes to set it up.

I collect the star in the Puzzle of the Vanish Cap level and also press the switch in one go. This is an improvement of previously where we collected the star and pressed the switch separately. This is an improvement because currently, Puzzle of the Vanish Cap takes 1 a press to enter, and by doing two of the things in one go, we can prevent the need to go back another time, which means we only have to enter the level 2 times opposed to 3. (2 times because there is still the replica star)

Since then I figured out that chuckya can actually grab Mario through floors. Initially I just had an idea and I tested it out and it seemed to work as I thought. Now the question was how would you do this in practice? Well lucky for us, Mad Musical Mess is one of the few levels where you can do the hat in hand glitch, this is useful to us because it lets us manipulate objects without modifying the HOLP. Thanks to this we can place a HOLP in Bob-omb Islands, and then grab chuckya light to throw him towards Mario so he grabs him through the floor!
Note: We can't simply just use the warp to get back to the guitar, because that would reset the hat in hand. This is why we use a pedro spot in order to get there. Also I am not sure if you can fly directly to the star from the pedro spot, I tried for a while and couldn't pull it off.

Since then I figured out you can use the shy guy from the windmill to bounce directly to the purple switch, and that you can from the gate actually do a ZB bounce to the star (this trick is super precise!)
.m64 stats:
Length: 1 minute 16 seconds
Frames: 4542 (2250 input)

Since then I figured out you can actually do a ZB kick to the green platforms and from there you can use the shy-guy to save one of the a presses. The final one may be able to be saved by somehow getting a shyguy up by the windmill, but for now, this is alright.

Since then Zimbo found a way to enter the pedro spot in 0x, which made it possible to get this star using 1 a press. However the way that it was entered was using the first flyguy, but the problem with that was that you couldn't turn Mario around to face the right way towards the tower. So what we do instead is use the other flyguy which is much higher up to get high enough to turn around and get into the pedro spot, from there we build up speed for 3 minutes to allow us to jump all the way to the top of the tower!
The A Presses are as follows:
#1: To jump from the pedro spot to the top of the tower.

Since then, I was thinking that using the wing cap could help save an a press, but I wasn't sure if you could get there fast enough before the wing cap ran out. Thanks to Maplestrip who tested this out and actually found out that you can indeed get to the cannon and shoot to the star in time, thereby saving 1 A Press with a completely new strat!
The A Presses are as follows:
#1: To get to the wing cap
#2: To fire the cannon to get to the star

Since then I figured out that you can actually use the HSW spot near the bridge to build up enough speed to just jump directly to the star. This requires a precise angle, and precise amount of speed however, anyways pretty cool strat!
The A press's purpose is to jump directly to the star from the HSW spot.

Since then Notchmath made me aware of a HSW spot right near the spawn, that can be used to build up a ton of speed. What do we need this speed for? Well to clip directly into the break through the floor star area. Unfortunately it comes at a cost, we have to build up speed for almost two hours as we need around -40000 speed to clip through to a spot where Mario can stand.
Interestingly this level is one of two levels where you can only collect 99 coins in 0x (normally, the other being gloomy garden). The coins which were collected in 1x before were the ones up above on the bridges. The dilemma then came how to collect these coins in 0x, in order to get to 100. Well, as it turns out we have "Break Through the Floor", which has floors which are made of lava, so what we can do, luckily as there are only two floors, we can use the lava to lavaboost our way up to the top, thereby making the star 0x!
It is also worth noting that, collecting a star together with the 100c is optimal as it takes 1 A press to even enter the level. that is why these two are combined.
Also, I do have to appologize for my horrible swimming, I was getting bored toward the end as the swimming section takes almost 9 minutes...

This is possible because we can use the bee near the whomp to get up to the crazy box. Once we are there, we simply use the crazy box to bounce up to a much higher point. Luckily for us, there are exactly two enemies up here, and we are going to use both of them. We first manipulate the goomba to fall down so we can use him to get up to the higher point, then we use the bee up here to knock us off the little beanstalk. All in all pretty fun strat!

I collect the red coin star in the secret level "Sandy Slide Secret" using 0.5x A Presses. A is being held in order to kick up slopes and such as this star doesn't look possible without that. It was long believed that this star would need to be 1x, which would be to get onto the pink structure, but I figured out that C^ hyper speed and an AB kick would be sufficient to clear the gap!

Since then, I figured out that you can use a misalignment to get onto the first platform near the tower to get the red coin and save one a press. The second save was with the 5th red coin, this was done with a jump earlier, but you can just get to it by bouncing off of a bookend and quickly get back to the platform before it despawns.

I Collect the star "Door Knocking" using 1 A Press. This is possible because we clone the star from below and never need to go back up to grab the star!
Thanks a lot to Pannenkoek2012 for finding a setup that works for the star cloning. I was having a lot of trouble with VS values in order to clone the star in the end, but Pannenkoek2012 figured out that if you collect a coin with the right timing after Mario has grabbed the last secret, you can create particles that will induce the correct VS needed for Mario to be holding the star.
