Turns out they were a couple of stray dogs, one much younger than the other but both dirty, malnourished and hungry. One of them, a heeler/terrier mix, ended up becoming the newest addition to the family. Meet Charlie (Salami).A sweet and loving 6-month old furball who we ended up adopting into the family permanently. It's been an interesting ride to say the least, as he'd completely derailed our Colorado summer plans and beyond...but we feel extremely lucky and fortunate to have found him. It made sense to come back to this race (I had a previous DNF) to retrace my roots and get inspired to run again. Justin Grunewald | Brave Like Gabe Billy Yang 2020-09-30 | Professional US runner Gabriele "Gabe" Grunewald succumbed to a rare form of cancer on June 11, 2019 known as adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), after first being diagnosed with the condition more than a decade ago. Until her very last day however, she raised money to fight rare cancer and help thousands of lives through her foundation "Brave Like Gabe" (bravelikegabe.org/). She left behind many loved ones including her husband, Justin Grunewald, a very talented runner in his own right and someone who continues Gabe's work on the foundation to carry her legacy forward. Beyond the foundation, Justin also honors her memory in the way he continues to run and live on his journey without his life partner. This upcoming Thursday, May 7th at 4pm PST, I will be embarking on the Goggins Challenge for the subsequent 48 hours. What exactly IS the Goggins Challenge you ask? Here is his video explaining the 4x4x48 Challenge: youtu.be/dos6xiMVPyEEssentially when the clock starts, each participant runs 4 miles every 4 hours until the 48 hours are up. It will be 12 sets in all for a total of 48 miles. As stated in his video, if you prefer to walk it, bike it, maybe run 4 kilometers instead, do calisthenics, push-ups...whatever that may look like for you, you can take on the challenge. My goal is to select a different participant on a Zoom call before each set to dedicate the next one to a medical provider they know who is working the frontlines during this Covid-19 pandemic.
