Shadow Of The Ninja (Kage) - Boss Run (No Damage/Upgrades) - With Commentary
updated
Will this involve the Revenging of Quint? A good level for Mega Man? A Remixing Revolution? (That one couldn't make the party)
Probably! At least some of those!

(Spoilers for Entry stages)
The Boss Gallery - Practice against any major foe in the game. & how many bosses are in this game?
Yes.
You know game is huge when just MENUS are a freakin' undertaking to create. Whew!
Every unique encounter (be it a Devkit boss in a new room layout/gimmick or honest to goodness new Robot Master/Guardian) can be fought in this gallery once encountered in the main game.
Progress is good. I don't know what to post to show that progress is good, other than... progress is good!
If folks want another multiplayer video or something showing off more entry stages, I can probably get that arranged.
Summer... sucked. The suckage continued through to September. It's difficult. That's why I tried to at least get the Multiplayer Update video out. So.. let's stream.
Yes, a bunch of Mega Man levels made in 48 hours! What could possibily go wrong? :D
Mega Man and family go on a holiday. Naturally, shenanigans ensure.
This project was made around the time I became really unwell, so whilst I contributed some, I wasn't there to get it over the finish line.
It's levels were made with some enforced limitations (such as randomly selected assets for people to use) and a strict time limit of 2 days! In spite of that, there are some really good stages in here!
There's also some really bad ones too, but whatya gonna do.
I'll play as long as I am able. Just coming back from recovering again. As I've said before, these help me. So join if you're able!

It's one of the greatest games ever, and I adore it. I've been very much looking forward to playing Remastered, so come join me for a casual livestream as we get lost in the wonder of Tallon IV... well, hopefully not literally.
This will be a multi-part stream.

This video also addresses the status of the project. It's going well. It's just *big*. It's a little hard to know what to update people on without spoiling stuff we very much don't want to spoil, so if more casual previews are wanted, we can do so.

I still hate and despise YouTube shorts, for what it's worth, but this felt like an appropriate use case I guess.

Since Mega Man RAM is a fairly short game, the 2nd part of the Stream is showing a cancelled fangame called Bass Ballistic Breakout, which, considering how 'early' it was cancelled, was also pretty fun!

This games progress is going well in spite of the voodoo curse upon it. Updates to the github are constant. More and more things are getting done.
Hopefully there will be a larger update in the not too distant future. For this game, for Revolution Remix, ... come hell or high water these games are getting dragged kicking and screaming out of development hell and QR2 is coming along for the ride.
As for this channel. You may have noticed I've been doing erratic livestreams, and they help me. So I'm interested in continuing that for a bit. Its a thing for me. I want to do other things on the channel, but I'm still trying to find my limits.
As for this video? Sometimes you wake up way too early on a day you're waiting for a doctors appointment and take an opportunity to record. Aside from a couple of bugs that decided to introduce themselves last minute (the timer on the side stopping due to someone else on the devteam working on leadboard code, Dust Man's arena losing its animation, couple of minor animation glitches..) this was a smooth recording.
This completes the trilogy of Devkit Arenas for MaGMML3. There is one final arena that will not be shown off.. mostly because its involving endgame stuff and nowhere near finished. In the meantime, enjoy a revist of some bosses and one more Arena Endboss, this time by Spin Attaxx who I think did a great job.

Episode Zero takes aspects of both the Classic Mega Man series and the Mega Man X series and blends them into a unique experience in this curated collection of stages, as Zero traverses a world map and unlocks multiple weapons.
It directly follows MaGMML1's story from the perspective of Zero - not quite the Zero Mega Man X fans know, but a decoy robot that gained sentience.
I was not personally involved with this project, but it is a really fun game to play, probably one of the best MaGMML releases - its somewhat niche subject matter

But this topic was stressful and this was ultimately the thing I found that helped me get this recorded.
It's no secret I haven't been very well at all over the last few... years!?.
And last year was horrible in its own way. It's been very frustrating.
But... I am dealing with it. And we seem to finally have some form of answers, things that have consistently seemed to have helped. For the first time in a while, I'm actually hopeful going forward! When you know what you're dealing with and have a plan of action, you know your limits, and the longer I have to deal with this, and I will be dealing with this the rest of my life, the more I can plan for it.
I was really hoping to post this prior to 2023, but again, the topic is a bit stressful and I was struggling with that. Ultimately I found a method, even if it does involve some Agent 47 action.
Maybe some folks will be surprised that I play modern games at all, hah.

In this Livestream we cover the Wily Stages, both the newly added ones for Remastered, as well as the original stages... along with some of the game's unused content. Some of which I may or may not have reimplemented...
A remake of the first MaGMML contest game, now using the MaGMML3 engine and a whole lot less jank.
20 entries of increasing quality and six Wily stages!
The original was done before my time on the series, but this time I was involved with Tier Boss, Art and one of the Wily levels. I also have some things that haven't been shown off in a long while, so that'll be fun.
I'm hopeful I'll get through the 12 stages (and other content) in this stream, as I am a bit more familiar with this section of the game, but we'll see!

I like to play a lot of Rougelikes, especially deckbuilders/turn based ones.
Nice to have a fallback for when I have pain spikes, with Monster Train being particularly addictive, and as a bonus, a lot of the Monster designs are adorable and often make adorable sounds as they kill/die/get consumed by the void.
150 hours of runs, and a game I've more or less 100%'d.

This will be shown via a live playthrough by ACE, and all that entails. Please ask questions about Revolution Remix as needed.
Cutscenes will be skipped and its being played on a debug save file in order to do so.
At a certain point, I'll intentionally stop if it goes long enough, probably before the final Wily Stage, we'll see. This is live and I haven't done this in a while, so expect things to go wrong.
This game is still work in progress in terms of graphics, bugs, game modes and characters, etc.

With the results now public, I wanted to finally formally (semi-formally) announce another aspect of the results - the Arena and how it's being handled. Due to the sheer numbers of Entry Bosses and with Hindsight, its now down to a single Entry Arena, but unlike MaGMML2, this time is far more curated - and with the hopes of highlighting just what the judges consider a "Good Mega Man Boss".
Unlike other videos showing arenas, this one is commentated due to the nature of it. I also wanted some more practice at Live Commentary again, its been a while.
Enjoy!

And a lot of Robot Masters. Hoo boy, a LOT of Robot Masters. We aren't even showing a lot of the cool non-Robot Master bosses & even Robot Masters, that's just how many Robot Masters there are.

Don't expect QR2 updates, Revo's will continue. Game Dev is hard and I gotta keep a handle on my health, both mentally and physically. There is no point in passion projects without passion, and I'll do my best to keep said passion.
FWIW I opened the source files for both MaGMML and QR2 in the past few days to do the "boring stuff." They're not dead, but not everything in Game Development involves making stages, bosses, and content, y'know?

With some fairly large pieces of pixel art, this took quite a bit of work and I'm happy with the result.
Whilst it is a bit less dynamic that what Quint's Revenge 2 has, ultimately Me and Mike also wanted it to be somewhat faithful to the original's intro, but you can check out just how much of a difference there is here:

The selection is rather arbitrary (It's in the video name!), but it is a mix of unseen remade bosses, a updated previously seen boss and one that is entirely new to Revolution Remix compared to OG.
Life continues to say "no" to all my plans, and a recent incident involving a close family member is leading me to... well, turn off most social media such as Discord, and am only using it to contact close friends or boyfriend. It's also likely I won't get anything else out this year (or even returning to Discord) and I'm considering the rest of the year a wash.
I'll probably respond to comments on this video for a bit though.

Mega Man Castle Stage 2 is starting to come together.
Just remember my health is pretty crap atm and life is kind of nuts right now, so progress is slow.
It was also the very first video game I ever beat as a kid, and whilst I don't think its a particular great game (the first one is objectively better), it still holds a soft spot in my heart for the Megadrive's janky attempt at replicating a faux-3d game.
It also comes with the world's easiest stage select - just hit left or right to select your starting stage. This doesn't let you skip stages though, you must still beat every stage, and once you clear stage 12, you go back to stage 1 and do any levels you hadn't yet beaten. I've found this is the my best way of clearing this game with both a high-score and a large stock of lives - defeating the two hardest levels out of the gate since the earliest stages allow you to refill said stock of lives.
Once all 12 stages are cleared, you face stage 13 - the boss rush. You face all end of stage bosses, although some have minor timing changes (Trimuller for some reason fires far fewer projectiles in the boss rush than he did in stage 1, Neo Dom is conversely much more chaotic than the first time.)
Clear the boss rush to fight the final enemy, and there you go!
A lot of the bosses aren't particularly difficult, but a few can get pretty close to taking Harrier down. Certain bosses are on a time limit, and failing to kill them in time will result in them running away - taking their score with them.
Noteworthy bosses are:
Trimuller - The first boss you learn to quick kill - the timing is pretty tight to do so though.
Neo Dom - Once one of the robots falls, they will try and bull rush you - if you haven't distributed damage between them fairly evenly, you will be left with no room to dodge. Try to spread the love before finally taking one down. Once the robots have bull rushed you, they escape.
Mantichora - The hitbox is a bit wonky when he rushes you, so playing chicken with his dash is rather fun.
Wizard - He's easy, but only the entity that is actively firing at you can take damage. He has only 9 HP overall, so single shots are more effective.
Medusa - Probably the game's signature boss - she appears on the box art and in a lot of the original marketing.
Neo Tomos - By far the most tricky - and chaotic - boss in the game. Stray shots are a nuisance and even killing them is a challenge - as they run away very shortly after they appear.
Bins Been - Poor thing, its trying its best.
Love Face - This Sigma-lookalike is pretty easy once you know the timing to dodge his split. Good name.
Dark Harrier - Fairly chaotic - and his twirling energy rush has a deceptively large (and square) hitbox. He's also on a timer, but damage directly reduces it - so you almost never seem to land the final blow. Still, this guy is a challenge.

I'm still figuring out what games I can, and cannot physically play. A lot of it is based on how repetitive the controls are. In Space Harrier's case, it comes with a rapid-fire built in, so that's handy.

Music in this video done by Mike Crain. In-game it is called "Remastered", was created in Famitracker using the Sunsoft 5B and Namco n163 chips; and it is, to quote Mike:
"A total remake from the ground up of my original OST I made back
in 2011, all the while trying to respect the original
compositions as much as possible."
Plus new tracks for the expanded content.
Since its a remastering of the original OST, it sounds pretty different to a Capcom OST.
There is also a 2A03 version of the soundtrack which can be considered "closer to a Mega Man NES OST", and is a collaboration between multiple musicians, and is a combination of remixes from the original game and new tracks made at the musician's discretion.
That will be uploaded at a later date. There are still a few gaps in the OST that need filling first.
I personally don't have a favourite. I think Mike's OST sets the mood better in spots, but the 2A03 has a fair selection of great takes on the music and some of the original stuff is superb.
Kind of like Sonic CD for me, I might just swap between these two on alternative playthroughs.
There is also a SNES style version of the OST that follows the N163 pretty closely. It's pretty good, (the particularly atmospheric tracks really shine here) but I still prefer the N163 one over that version overall.

This is a difficult video, and it may even be difficult to watch.
It was certainly difficult to record, difficult just cutting out areas of awkward silence as I tried in vain to compose myself. It is a dark subject matter.
I'm still fighting. I will keep fighting.
I hope to see you soon in the new year. I don't know what it will bring. But I will see you soon.
To make a long story short, no, I'm not very well. This is why the editing in this video is going to be fairly slapdash. Watching it back I see some things that snuck in, even though I was sure I deleted it, but like everything related to this game series, its last minute and not tested enough!
Still, its up. Ideally, I might've re-recorded this, but December very much said "no".
I hope you guys have a good Christmas. I sincerely do. 2020's been hot garbage. Maybe there will be improvements going forward.

There's been other issues than the throat, just various things combining together really. Still, I think I'm recovering somewhat.
It's unfortunate that this game almost ends on a whimper - Stage 8 isn't very fun, and has a few rather dreadful boss fights in it, but at the very least, the fun but difficult Final Boss more than makes up for it. Plus we get Konami Mode 7 effects ripped straight from Castlevania! What's not to love, other than how slow that entire segment is!? :V
Still, I adore this game. The endgame is definately weaker than the other Rocket Knight games, but I think how Sparkster controls in this game combined with some honestly great stages earlier on, the amount of unique details, fun if scrappy bosses, polish and sheer charm really make up for it.

Incidentally, the screencap of the Konami's website shown during the Konami logo is is even under the sub-domain address "Gaming". Make of that what you will.
I'm using accessibility software to modify the control setups for retro games, as I am suffering from long-term severe wrist pain issues that makes gameplay difficult. As a result I need unique control setups per game.
This does sometimes result in certain acts of clumsiness during live play, (at least twice my XBOX One triggers refused to acknowledge themselves being released, causing Rocket misfires) as the games were not designed for these, but I got on rather well in this game all told.

As janky and blatantly unfair as the Ghosts 'N Goblins games are, I honestly love this game, and while I think the SNES one is pretty great too and I think is objectively a better game, I prefer this one from a gameplay standpoint. I like the simplistic nature, and personally prefer having multi-direction aiming and boss checkpoints over the double jump and weapon upgrades.
I feel very out of practice doing this sort of thing, and thanks to my health issues, my time spent playing video games is pretty limited lately. I'm familiar enough with the Megadrive/Genesis version of Ghouls 'N Ghosts that even with lack of practice I can beat it easily enough.
Some deaths in Stage 2 and Stage 5 were edited out, and commentary around those points was edited to flow more. If you notice oddities with scores/lives, that's why. Stage 5 is abnormally difficult even for this game, and Red Arremers are obnoxious in any GnG game so...
I will be following up with Loop 2. I'll probably talk about something else during that run, until we reach the final boss.

The game is still making use of RushJet's music too, as the game was heavily inspired by his music.
I unfortunately haven't really had much peace and quiet to do live recordings, so doing anything video wise has been difficult.
In the meantime, I will keep plugging away at this.
As I said, QR2's going pretty good at the moment.
You are probably wondering why I am uploading the cut-scenes separately to the actual LP? Simply put, it's due to the nature of it being a developer LP, so I tended to not pay any heed to the cut scenes at all....
as well as the subject matter of parts of it, it didn't seem appropriate. So they're separate for easy watching, I guess.
This Let's Play was... very emotional for me, and is one of the hardest things I've ever recorded, but I feel it is important. In case you're wondering why that is, around 27 minutes into this very video gives an indication of the topics of part of the Let's Play. Yeah.
But... this will be in addition to a normal behind the scenes of this game, both of this version of CC3, as well as the versions that did not make it across the finish line.
Expect it in the next few days, providing some equipment needed to finish it turns up.
Somehow the plastic connections for my microphone have melted and I'll have to replace that with metal components. I didn't think it was that hot, but oh well.
I am very surprised this game somehow ended up with 30 minutes of cut-scenes?! That's more than most mainline Mega Man games, hah.

Now, it doesn't suck *that* much on a personal level, at least compared to last year... last year will take some beating for that, but... as far as that goes there's...
Suddenly fainting (downgraded to dizzy spells now), blood pressure spikes, general high degrees of stress, deaths in the extended family, worries about my sister who's a doctor...
I'm alright though. It's hard to concentrate, and I can't seem to bring myself to not sound like "Eeyore", plus having every member of the family in one house and zero time or space to myself, time has become an illusion.
I've almost literally spent the last few months just *drawing.* 90% of that is drawing gay furries. It's about the only thing I find relaxing right now.
You can find a bunch of QR2 updates that weren't posted here (in between the gay furries) on my twitter, alongside a webcomic with periodic updates:
twitter.com/Sprites_Inc
In the mean time, have some goofing off. I may have had way too much fun with these.
Wanted to see how feasible a Randomiser mode was for a game. The game is too far along to go whole hog, but from memory, this is pretty close to the Mega Man randomiser Rom Hacks I've seen, at least, minus the palette swaps.
Still around, hands are not really recovering all that well, but I'll be moving ahead anyway. I'm in the process of scripting a video or two, including a Revolution Remix video update, and there will hopefully be a more substantial QR2 update along the next month or so, too.

Been a few years since the last entry in this series, and this Year has been particularly rocky in personal respects. Thought it'd be nice to wrap up the decade with the finale of this little series.
Huge thanks to the MaGMML team for helping finish off this game whilst I was physically unable to work on it.
