He committed his life to growing in his faith. He got married young and quickly became a leader after graduating from Bible College.You might be asking, "what's so powerful about that?" Where is the "miracle"? What huge obstacle did Tommy have to overcome?And years ago, I would likely be thinking... "meh," after hearing a simple journey without drama or heavy pain points. The problem with this view, is that it is a warped view of the story.For much of my life, I felt more drawn to the crazy story. I remember reading the book "Martyrs For Christ," a book full of Christians who died on the mission field, advancing the Gospel. Don't get me wrong, the story is always about God, and so yes, even the wild and crazy turn around stories should be proclaimed. They are great testimonies to the power of God to bring hope to even the most hopeless situation. But not at the expense of celebrating stories like Tommy Sewall's. I hope wherever you are listening or watching this episode that you will take a few moments to reflect on your journey to God. Maybe even write down a few key moments. I am sure we have all been guilty of this at some point in our life. As a kid, I remember praying, "God if you get my parents to buy me these new pair of shoes, I'll be nicer to my sister." Or, God if you help me pass this test in Algebra, I'll read my Bible everyday. Something along those lines. I also remember a time, late in the evening, when I was a youth pastor in college. Driving one of the guy students to his house. He was newer to the group and didn't believe in God. As we drove, we discussed the existence of God. At one point, this young man added.... "Oh, ye,h if God makes a bird fly in front of your car right now, then I'll believe in Him!"AAANNDD, of course you know what happened next. Not even a split second after he utters this statement, a huge bird actually flew right in front of the windshield of my jeep, almost crashing into us. I'd like to say because of the bird incident that this young man professed faith right then, but like most of us, he did not hold up his end of the deal.In this episode however, Ronnie Hopkins shares a deal that he tried to make with God. "If you keep me from going to prison, I'll trust you." Wait until you hear the outcome!!! HOW TO END RACISM - Sharons Story Illustrates it beautifully THIS IS MY STORY 2022-05-19 | THIS CRAZY WHITE BOY, got on my nerves so bad, but he eventually changed my entire life for good. - Sharon Parker"God asked me to forgive the man who did those things to me when I was a girl, so I could become the woman He wanted me to be." - Sharon ParkerNo matter how far you may feel from God, you are only one step of faith from Him. Don't let your painful past or current struggle keep you from taking that first step towards finding your healing and purpose. God can change anyone. He is faithful. He is good. And He is love. And He will sometimes use the most unexpected person to work through. In my case, he used a "CRAZY WHITE BOY"Sharon is one example of someone who truly felt like God couldn't love her. She was raped by a family member at 9 years old and spent 30+ years carrying that pain with her. She medicated with drugs and found a "fake" love from future men who wanted only one thing from her. As an adult, it was extremely difficult to have any faith that God was good and that He would be her healer. In this episode, we a blessed to hear her journey from a place of suicide to her becoming a strong and beautiful woman of faith. God healed her of it all. Don't miss this episode because it is important for all of us to be in touch with the reality which Sharon had to live through. It will open your eyes to other people around you that you work with or otherwise to be a person of love and encouragement to. Welcome to another episode of This Is My Story. We spend some time discussing the idea of life being a well. Is my well empty or is it full? I guess this depends on my perspective of the meaning and fullness of life itself. Looking at Jim's highlight reel of his life in the 90's it would be easy to assume his well was full. After all, he is base jumping off of buildings, buses and cliffs. Everyone in snowboarding knows his name and wants to be successful like him. He was making millions of dollars as a pro snowboarder and traveling the world to do so. But it was largely a life with out God in it and as you hear from Jim, he describes this well as only a quarter full compared to his life now centered on God.Jim has been retired from snowboarding since around 2010 and works as a Chaplin for a prison in Nevada. He and his wife have two children and are a blessing to many people they know. I am excited to introduce him to you and have him on the podcast. DEPRESSION IS REAL AND ANYONE CAN GO THROUGH IT - Gary Copelands Story // CANCER / PORN / EMPATHY THIS IS MY STORY 2021-11-30 | THIS IS MY STORY PODCAST - EPISODE FEATURE: Gary Copeland Leave a comment below and share your story and/or let Gary know how much you appreciated hearing his story.Although Gary was a Christian since a young age, he faced a battle with depression that caught him by surprise in recent years. Listen in to discover how God carried him through one of the darkest nights of his life. Battling with depression and insecurities was very new to Gary. It came soon after he had broken his neck from a tragic fall on his head. Dealing with physical pain, lack of mobility and Bells Palsey in his face created a culmination of feelings that took a tole on Gary's mental health and his emotional health. But his story didn't end with him being defeated by the enemy, but rather God's word and Gary's determined faith brought him out of his recovery stronger spiritually and with a renewed tenderness for people who've gone through depression or struggled with insecurities. Gary prayed for a miracle every day for months, yet he didn't receive it, at least not the one he was praying for. Instead, Gary's neck was repaired via surgery, screws and physical therapy, but through his recovery and brokenness physically, God revealed a deeper healing that Gary needed and received which was having grace and a better understanding of what people go through who are struggling with addictions, depression or other emotional pain. Gary also shares a story of how his wife, Janie was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She was given 6 months to live, but this time as Gary & Janie and family prayed, God did bring a miracle. This begins her journey with God and how He lifted what felt like the weight of the world on her shoulders. Year's later, now married and a mother a two, Ashley is a reflection of God's promise to us all, that in this world we will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome this world. She's learned to trust in God while he hero of faith, her mom was diagnosed with cancer. She has most recently been on a new journey in her marriage where Matt was no longer touring due to COVID-19.
