Notes: IronMind started piloting remote certs as a result of the pandemic making in-person judging risky. This attempt was red-lighted on a technicality because the nails left the video frame at 0:42 when I did a closeup with my backup camera. Ironmind sent me another batch of obviously different nails (see my face at 1:10) to retry the certification a week later. They were shinier with fresh, still tacky paint on them...and if I had to bend them blindfolded, I would have 100% guessed that they were drill rod. I have heard a few people talk about receiving mutant ~490lb rated nails as opposed to the average 430-440lb range. I suspect that is what these were.
Bend starts at 12:04.
I only got the first two within the 60s time limit. I came back and finished the last one after resting for 5-10 minutes, but both the sweep and crush were uncharacteristically tough for CRS. And to verify that I wasn't having an off day, I rested another 5-10 minutes and bent an 8mm x 180mm 8.8 bolt which was a PR for me.
All in all, I'm happy to complete this cert, even if I had to do it twice.GBI 170kg Bar Certification - Gil GoodmanBarrel Strength Systems2020-08-29 | Bending a Grip e Bend Italia 170kg Cert Bar. It’s time to upgrade your wrist training. Whether you are training for strength, conditioning, or rehab, the wrist mace can transform your wrists from glass to steel.
Most people don’t know that wrist strength decreases as grip width increases and grip strength decreases as you bend your wrist in any direction from neutral. The 3” spherical handle allows you to train your wrist with an open hand and address both of these challenges.
Sledgehammer work is a great intro to wrist training, but the wrist mace handle shape is much closer to actual sporting applications like a wide revolving handle (for grip competitors) or an opponents hand (for armwrestlers).
The Wrist Mace comes with one mace and two spring clips, so you can adjust the resistance by moving the weight further from the ball. Designed to be used with standard plates, one 5lb plate is more than enough for most athletes.

WEIGHT DIVISIONS Mens: Lightweight (80kg-), Middleweight (105kg-), Heavyweight (105kg+) Womens: Open Junior's: 15 and under Masters: 50+ Scoring: Reverse Strongman Scoring
1.) Big hands make you better at thickbar, wide pinch, and grippers. This means that people with an overall average grip, but huge hands, can put up impressive numbers on those implements. Hub doesn't care how big your hand is, so you have to actually be strong, independent of your size advantage, to succeed.
2.)Hand flexibility. In order to get your hand positioned optimally on the hub, you have to directly oppose your thumb from your strongest fingers. If you can only get your thumb to the side, you are basically pinching between your thumb and your ring and pinky finger. If you can get your thumb all they way to the back, you can more so oppose your middle and index finger, which are leagues stronger than your last two fingers.
3.)Experience: Big guys like the big lifts and stuff that they are naturally good at. If you don't train a specific event because you aren't good at it from the get-go, then don't expect to magically become great at it. The hub, and other small device lifts (stub, coin, etc) require dexterity and specificity to be good at, so most people, regardless of hand size will need to train them to get good.
Over the past year, I have made a lot of progress due to being able to train my pinch heavy twice per week without any damage to my hand skin. One of the many benefits of this device.

(With Slo-mo demonstrations!)Barrel Strength Systems2017-06-21 | I've recently had a number of people, veteran and noob alike, talk to me about hurting their setting hand when doing work with grippers. Knurling on gripper handles can be sharp and just like a cheese grater, it can rip up your finger in short order. How do I keep from turning my finger into hamburger meat? Watch this and find out.
The grippers used in this video are a Captains of Crush #1 rated 79lbs, a Gillingham High Performance 5 rated 113lbs, a Gillingham High Performance 7 rated 153lbs, and a Cannon Powerworks CPW300 rated 184lbs.
You can get all these grippers at www.cannonpowerworks.com.
