And for those interested, that flight used just 350mAH from the 850mA 3S battery so flight times of over 15 minutes would be easy with a 1000mAH pack.

I forgot my helical antenna so the video was awful but I still had a ball with the sub-250g FPV RC plane at another local park here in Tokoroa New Zealand. It's a blast! Sorry about the variable lighting -- it's autumn now in the Southern Hemisphere. Too much fun by far and hardly a downed airliner in sight and the little tumble at the beginning of the video caused zero damage to the plane.

If you agree with this then why not ask the FAA for a $50 rebate... the difference between what they said RID modules would cost and the amount being charged for the cheapest options.

I don't do shorts... but this video is short. RID license plates available for download soon! :-)
The only people surprised by this are the FAA themselves and this speaks to a huge disconnect between the regulators and those being regulated.

Also, should we be pushing for parity with the manned aviation community who were offerd a $500 rebate to install ADSB on their aircraft? Given the cost of a broadcast RID module is two to five times that suggested in the final rule, it seems only reasonable that some form of rebate be on offer to compensate for this situation.

Another weekend of fun, frivolity and noise at the Tokoroa Airfield in New Zealand. Motocross bikes to our left, racing bikes to our right, helicopters, microlights and even a glider off in the distance. Who could ask for more?
And not a single drop of blood spilt or property damaged. What a fantastic adventure playground this area really is. Such a shame the owners (our local council) seem hell-bent on refusing any suggestion that they promote this facility to the world -- never mind, I'll do that for them!

Drones and RC planes are very dangerous, we know that because there are now so many restrictions and rules to keep us safe. However, compared to all the other adrenaline-soaked activities at the Tokoroa Airfield this weekend, flying a drone or RC plane seems pretty safe to me.
I had so much fun flying a good old analog quadcopter on Sunday and it really is the best machine for flying below-ground level (you can't actually see the motocross track from the airfield because it is about 20m lower than the runway). Only analog allows flying with no bouts of high-latency and no HDZero rainbows in such marginal conditions. I loved it and had a ball.
Most of the footage in this video was taken from my SpeedyBee 5-inch frame with a Runcam Hybrid 4K camera, Foxeer VTX and using Crossfire RC with a Tango2 transmitter.

Yes, Ron did turn up late in the day but could only stay for a few short minutes and I didn't get him on camera but we hope to have him propped up against the hangar in videos to come.
It is through the use of this technology that we can show how taking practical steps towards ensuring safety is every bit as important (if not more so) than blindly following regulations written by those who have probably never even flown an RC plane or drone themselves.
