I'm a huge fan of Sonic Before the Sequel (it was one of the first fangames I ever played) and have wanted to remix Hilltop Heights Zone for ages but was never able to due to it using a surprisingly difficult to find rap sample. I very recently managed to find a random song utilizing the same sample and thanks to the evolution of technology (FL Studio has a tool that allows you to separate audio into individual stems) I was able to isolate the vocals and finally get a clean version of the sample after all these years!
With the sample in hand, I wanted to challenge myself to re-imagine Hilltop Heights' theme in a more energetic and modernized way. I also challenged myself to try out some new techniques in this track, in particular the record scratching, which I did using FL Studio's "Gross Beat" plug-in and am very proud of if I do say so myself.
Very important note, but both background screenshots in the video are NOT from the original Sonic BTS. They are from Sonic Before the Sequel - Reprise, a project aiming to modify the original Sonic BTS and update it to modern standards. That project is being developed by KartinX on GameJolt, please go show them some love 🙏: gamejolt.com/games/SBTS-repsise/700610

NO GAIN
KEEP RUNNING
Got suggested to do this by a commenter named "lapiduspetar" on one of my other Cyberspace remix videos and thought this was a good track to get inspired by so I decided to give it a shot. I tried putting more effort into my mixing this time around to make everything sit nicely since there's so many sounds going on at once. Really enjoyed sampling the original song too!

Felt in the mood to try doing another Final Horizons style remix. Spent a little more time on this one than "Enjoy this World" (I spent like 4 hours on Enjoy this World and probably around 6 hours on this one). I'm still actively trying to learn and improve my electronic music production skills so I used the "Wishes in the Wind" remix from the original soundtrack as a reference and also got inspired by "Hi Friend" by Deadmau5. Really happy with how it turned out!

Man this definitely had to be one of my fav remixes from the "Final Horizon" update. Huh, what do you mean this isn't from the official soundtrack?
Haven't made music in a while and I wanted to stretch my muscles, so I challenged myself to try and finish this in one sitting. Spent about 4-ish hours on it. Hope ya'll enjoy (this world)!

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out! It's also one of the first tracks that's given me a chance to really try out the Korg M1 VST now that I own it, most of the percussion in the track is actually from there so that's cool!

See ya at SAGE!
This music is going to play in the game's special stages (which will have Sonic riding on the Tornado while Tails flies it just like in this video). Unlike how the song is here, the in-game version is actually dynamic and more instruments will gradually get added to the mix the further into the stage you get.
While I was working on the song I figured it'd be cool to cut a version that could be listened to all the way through and post it for all of you to enjoy. Hope you like it!

I'm probably gonna keep my mic off but I'll hop in chat to type comments now and then if people are talking.
Secret confession but I've actually been developing a video game recently! Working on the game has been really fun but I've found that I've been pouring almost every ounce of free time I have into the project and I was starting to feel a little burned out.
I realized how long it had been since I'd just sat down and made a song just for fun and with how stressed I've been feeling lately I figured doing some chill lofi hip-hop might help me calm down. I was glad to find that I was right :)
Hip-hop isn't a genre I do too often but this was honestly really fun to make so who knows, maybe I'll do more in the future!

Listening to all of those remixes over the years gave me a crazy idea: what if I made a Sonic Generations fangame, but with a twist. Rather than the game's zones pulling from Sonic's OFFICIAL history, they'd draw from his FANGAME history instead! Thus, "Sonic Fanerations" was born! It'd be a big fat celebration of the Sonic fangame development community and all the amazing titles they've put out over the years, many of which I grew up playing!
I couldn't stop myself from diving headfirst into making the theme for the game's "White Space" hub world as soon as I got the idea. In-game, this music would dynamically switch depending which zone you were standing in front of and loop until you entered it (just like in the original Generations!)
At this point, I'm not sure if a fangame like this is something I could make happen on my own, especially considering the resources and time it would take (a lot of original art assets would be needed and I'm also in my final semester of college and am SUPER busy right now; not to mention level design, either finding an engine or building one from scratch, testing, etc. etc.). But it's a project I'd really love to see brought to life so I honestly forsee myself at least trying to make it at some point in the future (likely with some help from some fangame dev veterans in the community since I've never made a fangame on my own before, lol)
In the meantime, I hope this medley makes all of you as nostalgic about Sonic's fangame history as it did for me making it.
Happy listening!

This track was a lot of firsts for me! First time chopping and flipping a sample. First time playing a melody on an actual keyboard instead of placing the notes with a mouse (that's really me playing on piano keys in real-time from 1:34 - 2:02! I know it might seem silly I'm so hyped about that but I haven't seriously played piano since the classical lessons I had when I was a kid. Getting back into it for this track was huge deal for me!) With all of these big "first times" I thought this would be a fitting track to kick off the new year! Happy 2022 guys, let's make it rock!

I've never played through any of the Kingdom Hearts games, but as a huge fan of video game music I've listened to plenty of tracks from the series. Of all the one's I've heard, Dearly Beloved is definitely the one that manages to tug at my heartstrings the most. When I saw Sora's song list, I was a bit bummed there wasn't a version of Dearly Beloved included (not counting the swing mix from KH Melody of Memories of course). Because of this, I decided it would be fun to compose my own remix of the song instead!
Anyways, I really hope you guys enjoy the music :D

I wanted this movement to pack some energy while also feeling heroic and exciting! I'm a huge fan of Ostinato Strings, and they were also present quite often in both Spider-Man game scores, so I made sure to make them incredibly present here. Additionally, writing the hip-hop beat and 808 bassline was a lot of fun, and helped provide support for the track to ride on.
The little synth noises in the background were probably my favorite part to write :)

Since this movement would be playing while Miles is swinging low and slow, I wanted it to have a more playful feel then the high version. I filtered the drum beat to make it more subdued, and the track starts off with plucked pizzicato strings, helping drive home that playful feel.
The staccato string pattern that accompanies the brass after the intro was actually added pretty late, but it really helps drive the rhythm of the song and help keep up the heroic feel.
When I was writing this, I could practically see Miles swinging over the street in my head :D

The pause screen is a sacred place in video games, where the player gets a brief reprieve from the excitement of the gameplay and an array of options to customize and tend to their character.
The pause menu in the original Marvel's Spider-Man featured a relaxing, dream-like quality to its music. On the contrary, Miles Morales' pause music actually changes throughout the game, and a lot of the pause themes feature the stripped down beats from the webswinging themes that play during gameplay.
I decided to draw inspiration form the dreaminess of the first game's pause menu, but also honor the second games choice to have the pause themes be reflective of their webswinging counterparts. This theme is essentially a dreamy, relaxing version of the high movement, and my hope is that it would relax players as they spend time customizing Miles.
The Ostinato Strings sound SO good with that reverb :D

While swinging around New York, naturally Miles will come across bad guys doing bad things. When this happens, the music dynamically switches to a combat version of the current theme and all bets are off!
I wanted the combat movement to carry that heavy, dark feeling that something bad is about to go down. I kept the filtered drum beat from the low movement to help drive this point home, but also introduced a loud and present new drum loop to help give the piece energy and get players hyped!
I also wrote in a male choir singing an ominous chord progression (a progression I actually lifted from one of the combat themes in the original game. In Miles Morales a lot of motifs are reused between different musical pieces, so I figured I'd similarly do a callback here!)
If you listen closely, there's a synth playing one of the Underground's main motifs toward the end of the song. I really enjoyed slipping that in there ;)

In this video, I edited footage from Spider-Man: Miles Morales to feature the music I composed playing in the background. The goal is to showcase how my suite accounts for all of the gameplay states present in the game, and would be able to support switching between them dynamically.
Ya'll have no idea how fun this was for me to edit. Playing back the video for the first time made me feel like a kid on Christmas!
It's my dream to work as a composer on a game like this for real one day. But until that day comes, I'll keep working on fun projects like these to hone my skills and learn as much as I can!

I received Spider-Man: Miles Morales as a birthday present last year and was absolutely taken by its soundtrack after playing it. Those of you who've played it know that the soundtrack, composed by filmscore veteran John Paesano and hip hop producer Boi-1da, features a unique "hip-hopera" sound that combines the hallmark sounds of hip-hop, such as hi-hats and 808s, with those of orchestra.
Having a passion for both sounds, I decided to challenge myself to compose an original suite in the style of the game's soundtrack. Additionally, I wanted my suite to sound authentic, as if it could be heard in the actual game. This involved me spending an immense amount of time listening to the isolated versions of each song in the soundrack over on xXSilentAgent47Xx's YouTube channel (their videos were extremely helpful!) and trying my hardest to ensure my suite covered every possible gameplay state.
This video is the result of that effort, featuring a high movement, low movement, and combat movement. I really hope you enjoy this project as I put a lot of time, effort, and heart into it! If you'd like to listen to the movements on their own or watch the live mixing demo you can do so in the "Miles Morales Project" playlist here:

Covering this song gave me a chance to practice my synthesis skills with Serum, but more importantly it gave me the opportunity to brush up on my drum skills. Drums are something I'm finally starting to get the hang of and I REALLY think they shine in this track!
EDIT: Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that this is actually a re-upload. I made a mistake when rendering the video I uploaded earlier today that resulted in the audio sounding super compressed. I had to take it down and re-upload a new version, the issue should be gone now!

Hey all, back again with another remix! While browsing YouTube the other day I stumbled on a video of someone playing through the fangame "Sonic Omens". I was particularly taken aback by the game's soundtrack, the music was great! From the moment I heard the first guitar strum in "Chao Paradise's" theme I was already hooked!
The guitar and chord progression in Chao Paradise reminded me a LOT of the song "Flight Over Venice 1" from Assassin's Creed 2, so I chopped some samples from that song and used them to make this remix. Enjoy!

I had an insane amount of fun working on this track and it's actually crazy how much it changed from start to finish. Dance music was one of the first genres I dabbled with when getting into remixing so making this track really made it dawn on me how much I've grown as a producer!
It was also really fun making music in the context of a specific game genre. Fighting Game's are always action packed and have crazy moment-to-moment gameplay, so I was sure to make this song super high energy!

I've been learning how to make more "orchestral" sounding game music lately and this cover is one of the things that has stemmed from it. I know the Lost Woods aren't a typical "horror" area, but I've always found them a bit spooky and unsettling. They tend to look quite different depending on what game they're in but they always have some sort of navigational puzzle to put your mind to the test, lol.
I decided to remix the Cadence of Hyrule version of the Lost Woods theme because I really like the way it sounds. The Cadence of Hyrule version itself is a remix of the theme from A Link to the Past, so I guess this is a double remix, haha

I've never tried to do retro 80s style synth music before so working on this was a lot of fun! My sister also taught me about "gated reverb" which is a technique used in a ton of 80s songs. I used it on the percussion in this song and it really made a difference!
