got 2nd place. first real tas i've done for a while. i thought it was p well optimized for this route, but nis beat me by almost a second with an sblj route 😔.
WackyComp Task 8:
Collect all of the custom placed red coins and finish bycollecting the red coin star. After each red coin collected, mario must perform a specified action before the next coin:
No restrictions before the 1st coin
Backflip before the 2nd coin
Slidekick before the 3rd coin
Single jump (or jump-dive) before the 4th coin
Triple jump before the 5th coin

got 15th place. nothing to say about this run except my low confidence was vindicated lol. one more round to qualify.
Task 9:
In Tiny Huge Island, start by closing the star textbox, and end by entering the cannon

got tied 4th place. i'd normally be quite happy with that placement, but it meant that i just barely didn't qualify for the final round of Rush57's tournament (top 3 each task qualify). idk if i'll perform this well on the next task, but this task was crazy anyway (two 3-way ties in a row, and then another tie for 4th!). we'll see.
Task 7:
In Cool Cool Mountain, start by taking the custom warp that leads to where the red coin star usually spawns, and collect 3 out of the 4 custom placed red coins. End by collecting the star near the big snowman.

got 6th place (the usual😶). really put a lot of time into optimizing this one, because there are limited routing choices with this task, and i wanted to use that to my advantage. tried everything i could think of 🤷♀️. this is part of the rush mini-tournament series. if you get top 3 in this or any of the following 3 tasks, you'll qualify for the 5th task grand final. fingers crossed🤞.
Task 6:
In Wet-Dry World, start your run by closing the textbox, then activate all 4 custom placed water crystals in descending order (i.e. you may NOT raise the water level at any point in your run) (order is shown in the gif below). End by collecting the custom placed star shown in the gif below

got 13th place (out of 16 entrants lmfao). wingcap route was not the move, but neither of us really put a ton of time into this task. oh well 🤷♀️.
Task 5:
In Bowser in the Dark World start by closing the sign textbox, then either break, wall kick, or land on 6 of the 8 custom placed wing cap boxes. End by entering the custom placed warp pipe.

got 9th place. not too happy with that performance. feel like this was decently optimized but i figured i'd get out strat'd...
Task 4:
In Bowser in the Fire Sea, start by closing the textbox. Collect 4 of the 6 custom placed 1-ups, and then end by entering the custom warp located in the elevator chute.
You may only press A a maximum of 3 times.
Starting with A held counts as one full A press.

got 6th place. spent a while looking for fast ways to move after breaking the 2nd box, but this is all i came up with. the gwk at the end is precies within 2 vertical units. got a sick wall push on it too🔥.
Task 3:
In Cavern of the Metal Cap, start by closing the textbox. Break 4 of the 5 custom placed metal cap boxes, and then end by exiting via the waterfall to the castle grounds.

got 6th place out of 38 entrants. predicted i'd get top 10. stacked task fr. this run is decent imo, and the bonus route is fun to watch as well. first submission of the year bc i missed the first task.
Task 2:
In Tiny-Huge Island (tiny island), start by warping to the cork box bridge. Collect the yellow coin near the beach, then finish by collecting the star "Five Itty Bitty Secrets", which has already been spawned.
You may not BLJ.
You may not re-enter the warp.
You may not exit the course, or warp to the large island.

got 15th place. spent like an hour total tasing this across two sessions and i tried 2 routes so i wasn't expecting to good at all.
Task 16:
In Cool, Cool Mountain, start by exiting the sign read. Collect the star "Wall Kicks Will Work", while using a limited number of wall kicks.- Each red coin collected will increase the number of wall kicks available by one; each wall kickwill decrease it by one. You may only wallkick after collecting a coin for it.- You must collect at least 3 red coins.- You may not BLJ.- You may not exit the course.Timing starts when Mario is first able to move, and ends on the first frame of star dance celebration.
got 5th place (better than we thought we'd do). galoomba did the majority of the tasing on this. i wrote a program to find the fastest route, and it did not end up being the winning route. makes sense tho. here's the program: github.com/tjk113/route-bruteforcer

Inside the Snowman's Land igloo, start by closing the 100 coin star text box. Collect all 6 red coins and end by leaving the igloo.
• You can Wallkick a maximum of 3 times, Sideflip a maximum of 3 times, and Long Jump a maximum of 3 times

got 15th place. really tragic placement bc i tried literally the first route i thought of. oh well.
Task 14:
In Bob-Omb Battlefield, start your run by closing the 100 coin star textbox. End by entering the cannon at the base of the mountain.
-You MUST wallkick at least 3 times

got tied 6th place. i felt like a better route was possible, but this one the only one of my (two) ideas that actually worked soooooo. i think the optimization is decently average.
Task 13:
In Whomps Fortress, start by waking up, then break all 5 custom placed !-Boxes in any order.
Timing starts when Mario is first able to move after waking up and ends when the final box unloads after being broken.
made to see just how low this category could go in the future (assuming no more big strats are found). the strat at 2:50 saves ~0.3s over the lavaboost strat. i did the pipe clips for fun lol (thanks to choux for doing the first one).
got 6th place. one of my better placements lately, but i could've done much better had i waited for a better cycle on the first rotating platform. oh well.
Task 12:
From a waking up start, touch the rotating firespewer platform (right-most one in the image), then continue to touch at least 3 more spinning platforms (left on the map).
Finish by collecting the custom placed star.
"Touching" means either:
- Mario's wall reference at the end of a frame belongs to the platform
- Mario is in a ground action and his floor reference at the end of a frame belongs to the platform

got 12th place :(. i missed a couple important strats and lost a bunch of time bc of it (first place was 5"17 by alexpalix). oh well.
Task 11:
In Snowman's Land, start by closing the 100 coin star textbox, then collect all 3 of the custom placed reds.
Then finish by collecting the custom placed star where Mario normally spawns.

got 8th place. fritzafella did most of the tasing this time and carried us cause i suck at bljs lol. pretty cool route.
Task 10:
In the castle lobby, start by waking Mario up, then collect 6 of the 8 custom placed doors (which are really just coins).
Then finish by exiting the area through any warp door.
Timing starts when Mario is first able to move after waking up and ends on the first frame of the "pulling door" or "pushing door" action.
got 9th place. pretty obvious route imo. was sure i missed something but i couldn't think of anything faster obviously. the first bonus run was a cool but slow route i tried. the second bonus run is a 0xA button challenge run, which i had fun figuring out the solution for.
Task 9:
In Bob-Omb Battle Factory in the romhack Super Mario Star Road:
Start by closing the 100 coin star textbox, and end by collecting the star at the other side of the level. Timing starts on the first frame mario is able to move and ends on star dance.

got 15th place. couldn't find anything faster than my initial route for the first week, and then i put this together. felt somewhat ok with this route, but i predicted that first place would be sub-4. also, the freerun was my first time PU tasing. i just used the stroop map lol.
Task 8:
In the Castle Courtyard, perform each of the following moves at least once in any order:
• Backflip
• Triplejump
• Wallkick
• Longjump
Then finish by entering the castle through the door.
An action counts as performed if either Mario's "Action" field or "Previous Action" field yields an associated action at the end of the frame.
The associated actions are respectively:
• Backflip: "backflip", "backflip land (1/2)"
• Triplejump: "triple jump", "triple jump land (1/2)"
• Longjump: "long jump", "long jump land (1/2)"
• Wallkick: "pole jump / wall kick"
As shown in STROOP's "Actions" tab.
This means you are allowed to cancel actions immediately, so long as they still show up in the "Previous Action" field.

got 4th place (new best placing in this comp so far!). i could've gotten 3rd though, which i will explain in the story below...
funny story: i had decided that, since i remembered, i would actually edit my savestate to have my star and life counts this time. this time, for no particular reason, i decided to make my star count 4004. then i started tasing the task. after closing the star textbox, i had another one of those "you've collected x stars..." text boxes. "odd," i thought to myself, "i would've thought xander would've made sure the star count was such that that wouldn't appear. oh well..." i then proceeded to tas the whole task, optimizing as i went. i finished my first lotad a bit after the 45 minute mark, but i figured i'd just keep optimizing and playing it back to think of any potential improvements. after a bit, i decided it wouldn't hurt to submit my first run. i drag and drop the files into the compbot dm and continue working. i see the reply in the corner of my screen. "Your submission is currently disqualified. Reason: invalid starting RNG." the anxiety begins shooting through my body. i was using my recent input lua that featured an rng-setting function. more than once while tasing i had thought to myself, "man, i sure hope i didn't somehow accidentally edit the rng at the start of my run." i promptly redownloaded the original savestate and replaced my own. immediately, a desync. "hmm?..." then, it hits me. the extra textbox at the start is gone. i immediately rush into copying my old run yaw-for-yaw (luckily, i had made a copy of my files at one point). not even 5 minutes later, however, compbot has something else to say. "You have 15 minutes remaining to submit!" my only thought: this is real speedtasing now. i continue my run, but then realize the correct rng has... changed things. now i have a route that was based on different rng. but i can't turn back. i hurriedly make the new rng work with my old route, and finish the run just as the 5 minutes remaining message rolls by. i test a couple more things, and finally submit with one minute remaining. 🙂

Task 7:
In Tall Tall Mountain, start by closing the textbox, kill at least one Monty Mole on each level (one from the lower level, and one from the upper level), collect the final two red coins, and finish by collecting the red coin star.
• You may collect the coins and kill the moles in any order
• You are NOT allowed to edit the initial RNG value
got 10th place (tied with two other people!). using the crouch slide in the beginning of the bonus run is 6f faster than the jump i ended up submitting. i thought of the crouch slide during my timeslot but thought it was slow because i hit the ground 1f later (dumb decision lol). i got 14"67 with the blj strat during my timeslot, and optimized it to 14"07 after the fact. i optimized the actual route to 13"37 after the fact as well, which i definitely could've gotten down to during my timeslot had i kept the crouch slide idea.
Task 6:
Inside the JRB Ship, start by closing the textbox. Open all 4 chests and then collect the star at the top of the ship.
Note: the water has already been drained from the ship.

got 10th. first team task of the 2022 comp, and there were some stacked teams. didn't feel extremely confident in this route tbh.
Task 5:
In Snowman's Land, start by closing the textbox and collect all 7 custom placed red coins and end by collecting the custom star (shown in image below).

got 11th place. did not feel too confident about this run overall and those fears were realized in multiple ways.
Task 4:
In the mandatory savestate in Shifting Sand Land Pyramid, start by entering the warp and end by collecting the custom placed star.
Collect 2 red coins and 2 1-Up mushrooms. You MUST alternate between red coins and 1-Up mushrooms. (e.g. Red, 1-Up, Red, 1-Up OR 1-Up, Red, 1-Up, Red)
You may NOT BLJ.

Task 3:

Mario begins with low HP. There are 4 custom red coins placed around the course. You are not required to collect any red coins.

got 5th place. top 4 was insane tho.
got 7th place. overall optimization is decent i'd say. i didn't do the best possible yspd manip i could've, but i think it's acceptable for what my route requires in terms of wallkicks.
-3f from gohanie. maybe improvable with better straining / better start angle to walk for 1 less frame, or wk 1f earlier?
7th in the loser's bracket, 10th overall in this task. the people who placed ahead of me had really great ideas. this was a fun tournament.
can maybe save a turning frame with a better wk angle, but i couldn't do it.

got 3rd place. this run is basically the first idea i had, so yeah. bbh music.
got 5th place out of 9 entrants, moving onto task 7. didn't feel like this was too optimized. btw, the blj in the freerun works by getting a wallpush on the pillar. thanks to feij for showing me that.
