We have used notebooking to document our experiences and learning since my oldest was about 4 years old. Think of notebooking like an educational scrapbook for kids. There is no right or wrong way to incorporate this into your routine — just what works best for you and your kiddo at any given time.
In this video, I walk you through how we are currently using notebooking with my rising 3rd grader and 1st grader. Then we dive back to the beginning of our educational notebooking and look at examples from 3-4 years old notebooks and up. As I flip through the notebooks, I share my thinking about the process and how I adapt and modify notebooking for my kids’ ages, skills, and needs.
🛍 Grab my Notebooking Guide now! This guide breaks down how to get started notebooking step-by-step, including routines, sample schedules by age, our favorite resources, and more, homespunchildhood.com/store/p/notebooking-guide

📝 Write by Number is a systematic, explicit writing program for students in 1st grade-12th grade. With clear mastery-based stages instead of grade levels, it is designed for a student to work progress as they are developmentally ready and have mastered the appropriate skills of previous stages. In this way, students can move through the program at the rate that best suits their needs. It can work as a stand-alone program and be the only program your student needs for formal writing instruction or it can be paired with another language arts or writing curriculum. Because it is skill and craft-based, not content-based, you can easily integrate it into your literature and content area studies.
🧠 The research on writing instruction is clear — all children benefit from systematic, explicit, skill-based writing instruction. For more on the research, check out the links here: homespunchildhood.com/languagearts-research

🍎 Little Wanderers Preschool is a gentle, developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum. As a former kindergarten teacher and homeschool mom of three, I do not believe a homeschool curriculum for preschool is necessary. That said, if you are looking for something to support connection, story-telling, and play, then there are a few curricula I recommend, including Little Wanderers Preschool.
🧠 Preschool-age children do not need formal academics, reading instruction, or math instruction. They need stories, outside time, play, and opportunities to develop fine/gross motor skills and emotional regulation.

This video is a detailed flip through Oak Meadow’s preschool curriculum, Seasons of Wonder. This Waldorf-inspired preschool curriculum is a gentle and developmentally appropriate program for your youngest learners, ages 3-5 years old. While a preschool curriculum is not needed (and I often don’t recommend a formal curriculum at this age!), the Oak Meadow approach is more of a year of intentional, seasonal storytelling and related play and simple activities. I’m looking forward to using this with my youngest, almost 4-year-old C3.

In my last Singapore math video, I discussed the differences between Dimensions Math and the new Primary 2022 curriculum. This video compares the new Primary 2022 Teacher Guide and Home Instructor Guide for level 1A. As a home educator, I think there are advantages and disadvantages to both options, and, ultimately, the guide you select is a matter of personal preference. And, for those of you who might be wondering if you *need* a guide — yes, you absolutely need a guide to get the most out of the curriculum and access the digital materials.

To switch or not to switch, that is the question. This video is a side-by-side comparison of Dimension Math 1A and Primary 2022 Math 1A. I will go through the teacher's guides and the student books side-by-side through the same units.
Both math curricula follow the Singapore math method. Dimensions Math is an American-based curriculum company, and Primary 2022 is the newly updated Primary Math created in Singapore and published by Marshall Cavendish.
