Nest Audio vs Echo 4 - FULL COMPARISON Tech Tech & More Tech 2020-10-29 | The Nest Audio, Echo 4, and HomePod Mini are all brand new smart speakers competing at the $99 price point. Nest Audio was released first, and I reviewed it just this past week. My overall impressions were very positive, but I still had some reservations with the Smart Home aspect of it. Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller Review Tech Tech & More Tech 2021-05-23 | Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller is a smart button made just for HomeKit. It has three physical buttons that can each do a single press and long press combination, giving you 6 individual scenes to control. It comes with a wall mountable faceplate, or can be used stand alone by your couch or table. Wemo says it is "Thread Ready" but it still has not received the update, and currently still only works with Bluetooth Low Energy. For $50 I would wait until the Thread update comes around, and perhaps more competition later in the year will offer better value. The FUTURE of Smart Homes!? Tech Tech & More Tech 2021-05-16 | In 2019 Apple, Google, Amazon, the Zigbee Alliance, and other prominent smart home companies formed a new working group called Project Connected Home Over IP, or Project CHIP. The aim of this project was to create a unified and standard approach for smart home manufacturers to follow in order to have their devices compatible with all ecosystems. The average consumer doesn’t care how something connects or works, they just want it to work. By removing the extra step of requiring separate hardware (Hubs), we eliminate the largest (in my opinion) barrier to entry with emerging smart home tech, and we ensure that Thread is adopted by manufacturers more and more, providing a better overall experience for everyone. All in all this should be a positive and exciting move forward for the smart home industry. Hopefully it means that more and more devices are compatible with one another, and hopefully it means that companies can spend more resources on developing new exciting products that everyone can enjoy.
