Tech Tech & More TechThe Nest Audio, Echo 4, and HomePod Mini are all brand new smart speakers competing at the $99 price point. Nest Audio was released first, and I reviewed it just this past week. My overall impressions were very positive, but I still had some reservations with the Smart Home aspect of it. In the meantime the Echo 4 was released, while the HomePod Mini will arrive on November 16th. While I am curious about how much these devices are really cross shopped, they are by all accounts direct competitors. So I wanted to compare the Nest Audio and Echo head to head to see which of them is best smart speaker. I will of course add the HomePod Mini into the mix when it gets released.

The Switchbot came out a couple years ago and it’s always been a really fascinating to me. It fits into a niche yet vast space in the smart home world where it can make non-smart things smart.
The Switchbot offers a unique experience where your regular old devices and appliances can be made smart which I think is valuable to both smart home newcomers and veterans alike.
It’s perfect for renters that can’t make more permanent changes to their homes, like replacing light switches, but still get the benefit of the smart home life.
I can say that for sure I recommend the Switchbot. It’s a unique device that is well made and works wonderfully, and definitely has a place in my smart home.

Music by: www.bensound.comNEW Google Nest Cam and Doorbell Updates!Tech Tech & More Tech2021-08-08 | So just the other day Google announced an update to their rather aging lineup of cameras and doorbells.
I want to go over the new devices and their features, but also explore how this will all tie into the upcoming smart home world with Matter, and other companies.
Among the new devices we have an indoor-only cam, an indoor/outdoor cam, a floodlight, and a new video doorbell. The key aspect to all this is that each device is cheaper than the one it replaced and has more features - which is great for everyone.
These new Nest Cams look like great devices, and I’m sure a lot of people are going to enjoy them. I look forward to testing out them out later when they are released.

Music by: www.bensound.comHow to Plan and Organize Smart Home AutomationsTech Tech & More Tech2021-08-01 | Home automations are great, except for when they randomly don’t work. Or when they work but not perfectly, and then your wife yells at you.
I’ve shown in previous videos various home automations I have implemented in my home, and while most of them work well, there are plenty of times when I wish they were either more comprehensive or that they could read my mind.
Well since mind-reading based automations aren’t quite available, we’ll have to settle for the next best thing, which is more comprehensiveness.
This is achieved not only by adding more and more conditions to your automation platform of choice, or multiple platforms in my case, but by documentation.

Your spouse or kids don’t need to remember the names of all the different lights.
Full disclosure, Flic sent these to me free of charge, but also no strings attached so I will still give my honest opinion of this product.
Those of you that have watched several of my videos will know that I am a big fan of smart buttons.
Even though I have a smart speaker in every room of my home, and have an Apple Watch on my wrist, I still prefer to control my smart home with a physical interaction, rather than using my voice.
Overall I think it’s good value. It may not be the first thing a smart home buyer will invest in, but if you’ve already bought hundreds of dollars worth of smart home gear, I think the value that the Flic buttons add to your smart home is well worth the price.

Music by: www.bensound.comWemo Stage Smart Scene Controller ReviewTech Tech & More Tech2021-05-23 | Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller is a smart button made just for HomeKit. It has three physical buttons that can each do a single press and long press combination, giving you 6 individual scenes to control. It comes with a wall mountable faceplate, or can be used stand alone by your couch or table. Wemo says it is "Thread Ready" but it still has not received the update, and currently still only works with Bluetooth Low Energy. For $50 I would wait until the Thread update comes around, and perhaps more competition later in the year will offer better value. Right now I still think the Hue Dimmer Remote is the best value for smart buttons.

Music by: www.bensound.comThe FUTURE of Smart Homes!?Tech Tech & More Tech2021-05-16 | In 2019 Apple, Google, Amazon, the Zigbee Alliance, and other prominent smart home companies formed a new working group called Project Connected Home Over IP, or Project CHIP.
The aim of this project was to create a unified and standard approach for smart home manufacturers to follow in order to have their devices compatible with all ecosystems. The average consumer doesn’t care how something connects or works, they just want it to work.
By removing the extra step of requiring separate hardware (Hubs), we eliminate the largest (in my opinion) barrier to entry with emerging smart home tech, and we ensure that Thread is adopted by manufacturers more and more, providing a better overall experience for everyone.
All in all this should be a positive and exciting move forward for the smart home industry. Hopefully it means that more and more devices are compatible with one another, and hopefully it means that companies can spend more resources on developing new exciting products that everyone can enjoy.

Music by: www.bensound.comNanoleaf Essential Light Strip ReviewTech Tech & More Tech2021-04-03 | The Nanoleaf Essential Light Strip is probably the most interesting light strip to come out recently. It’s not because it does anything particularly special, but rather because like the Nanoleaf Essential light bulb, it is priced well below the competition, and more importantly, because it runs on Thread.
Honestly the only downside right now to the Nanoleaf essential light strip is that it is Thread based, because unless you have a HomePod Mini you’re not going to be terribly thrilled by the response times.
But if that doesn’t bother you, or you already have a HomePod mini or plan to get one in the near future, then the Nanoleaf Essential Light strip is the new HomeKit Light Strip to beat.
The Lutron Caseta light switch is one of the most versatile smart dimmers on the market. Not only does it not require a neutral wire, it also integrate with all three major ecosystems, (HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home). While it may appear more expensive than some of its competitors, it is definitely a case of “you get what you pay for”, as the Lutron Caseta is considered the gold standard of smart switches and dimmers.
We’ll start with an unboxing, get it set up, go over the app, talk about the accessories, ecosystem integration, speed and reliability and finally whether or not it is worth it.
If you’re only going to replace a single dimmer switch, it’s admittedly a tough sell. But if you plan on outfitting the majority or entirety of your home with smart lighting, Lutron Caseta is still the gold standard in 2021.

In this review I am going to over the setup, look at the functionality that the app offers, test the brightness, color accuracy, speed, and reliability, go over which ecosystems are supported and ultimately conclude whether or not you should buy this or not.
Overall I am very pleased with this light. It’s got a solid app, good compatibility with other ecosystems, and most importantly, it’s bright, accurate, and has excellent colors for its price.

I’ve always felt that the screen also prompted me to interact with the device more. I’ve always liked the suggestions and rotating stories that many people dislike about the Echo Show’s.
