CMB - The Farmington Gig ChildrenMedievalBand 2019-07-29 | Soon after moving back to US, we've been invited to play a 3 hours gig at Farmington Fairgrounds in Maine. We didn't have much time, and we had to rehearse about 40 songs in about one week! Ten compositions and 30 covers. That was a lot of work!About 500 people were supposed to attend this fund raising party. Unfortunately the audience was much less numerous. Less than a hundred. So we only played some of the songs. On top of that the video camera broke and we used a cheaper one. The recording is mediocre.However the live performance was in reality quite good and the audience was impressed. So we decided to share fragments with our friends.An interesting detail: CMB presented themselves with a new name: "Crossland Medieval Band". Maybe we'll keep it. "California Medieval Faire" is available at http://www.nimbitmusic.com/childrenmedievalbandCompared to many other medieval music recordings, our album is not the best quality, but it brings a new concept: medieval music shouldn’t be danceable, powerful or melodious by today’s standards. Instead we tried to convey other dimensions of this style: fairy-tale atmosphere, innocence and candor, some piousness and natural freshness. We believe that we have opened a new avenue on the neo-medieval genre..The “California Medieval Faire” album containsten Medieval and Renaissance pieces, played and recorded while we were in California. Quite unexpectedly, but in this part of USA there are numerous Medieval Faires. Between 2012-2016 we have played each year at four of them: Big Bear City, Ventura, Escondido and Poway.Nevertheless, the most interesting fact for us was to be invited at Dehesa School in Newport, where we played for about 100 young kids. This kind of “fairy-tale” music is only rarely promoted to children – and this is quite sad – that’s why we were happy to go and interact with the kids. We have to be optimistic. Stefan’s voice is suffering serious changes, but he managed quite an interesting vocal performance during these two shows. This is a more suitable piece for an audience expecting entertainment.
