I decided that this @etro mens shirt needed a glow up! Sewing and the City | Christine Lindebak 2025-07-20 | I thrifted this shirt last year and it's been waiting for this upcycle! I used my Cooper Lounge Set pattern - which was perfect because the pieces are relatively small and everything fit except for the waistband.The fabric is a soft 100% cotton and this color combo of purple and a sort of dark hot pink gave me "drama" so I ran with it and added black lace.The buttons were really pretty too, so I used the smaller sized ones from the cuffs and collar and sewed them on the front of the sleep shorts and down the front of the cami. ✨The simple way to print just your size of a PDF pattern✨ Sewing and the City | Christine Lindebak 2025-06-13 | Even with color-coded lines, cutting your size from a pattern amongst 9 other sizes can be a not so fun part of sewing 😆 But most PDF patterns (and definitely all of mine ❤️) come with “layers” meaning each size of the pattern is saved as its own layer of the pattern and all the layers are stacked on top of one another when you purchase the pattern with all sizes. So with layers, you can unselect the sizes you don’t want to print, leaving just your size. Here’s how:1. Download Adobe Reader (it’s free)2. Open your pattern (A0 or tiled) in Adobe Reader3. In the right hand side menu, toggle the layers icon (it looks like 2 pieces of paper stacked)4. You’ll see a new menu pop out with all the pattern sizes5. Unselect any sizes you don’t need.6. Keep the base layer or layer called “pattern info” (that’s your grainline and pattern piece name)7. Once you have the size you’d like, print!8. Easter Jacket Sewing and the City | Christine Lindebak 2025-04-20 | I've had this blue and white striped fabric in my stash since last summer and knew it needed to be a jacket for Spring. Then a few weeks ago, I popped into my local fabric store and found a MaxMara silk scarf with fashion sketches on it and I KNEW it needed to be the lining of a jacket.I think the fabric is technically a home-dec fabric, it has a nice sturdy weight and a great selvedge edge which I ended up using as a trim for the binding. T-shirt but make it granny!! 👵🏼 Sewing and the City | Christine Lindebak 2025-04-13 | I found these little doilies (they’re not vintage but made in India) at the market and knew I needed to do something fun with them. I played around with different placements and decided they belonged on the sleeves!This is a nice thick white knit spandex cotton jersey from @fabricmart that I bought. I just zigzagged the doiles to the knit and then cut away the fabric from behind. The fabric doesn’t fray, so it worked great! I love the peek of skin under the doilies and it’s perfect for Spring 🌷And I used my Rivington t-shirt PDF pattern which now includes the long sleeve option. Tablecloth upcycle Sewing and the City | Christine Lindebak 2025-04-04 | I've had this off white tablecloth in my stash for awhile...but it was too coffee stained to use as is so...I used @ritdye to dye it!This was my first time using fabric dye. I wasn't sure how the embroidery would hold the dye because (I think) it is polyester and the fabric was cotton, but I'm pleasantly surprised how it came out! And...I'm looking forward to dyeing more things!I used my new Lafayette blouse pattern and filmed a Youtube as I did it. Link in first comment!

Why doesnt it fit? Sewing and the City | Christine Lindebak 2025-01-15 | If you're choosing your pattern size based on your bust measurement but your cup size is different than the cup size the pattern was drafted for...you're probably choosing the wrong sized pattern. It's a super common fit issue, and you may notice your garment has extra room in the neck or that you can pinch up fabric at the shoulders or the armholes are too big...basically your top or dress fits at the bust but is too big everywhere else.The simple solution? Choose your size based on your high bust measurement and then do a full bust adjustment to account for your cup size. Basically you're adding a little extra just where you need it, to fit your unique body.We cover this in depth in my new class, Fit Clinic which includes 4 live Zoom sessions with other sewists from around the world where you'll get personalized fit advice and then short concise how-to videos take you thru the pattern adjustments. I’m always thinking about what I can make with them! I love all the colors, tiny prints and stripes, and the quality cottons.And with cozy sweatshirt season in full swing…I took my Bleeker sweatshirt pattern, the yard of fleece hiding in my stash, and used the men’s shirt for the sleeves. I LOVE the combo! Bleeker sweatshirt Sewing and the City | Christine Lindebak 2025-01-10 | 🤍Cozy Bleeker sweatshirt 🤍I got this fab organic french terry from @minervadotcom and decided to sew up a cozy Bleeker sweatshirt perfect for January lounging! I used an iridescent organza for the ruffles.✨ Whenever I sew with anything terry, I love using wooly nylon thread in my upper and lower loopers of my serger to keep all those loose terry loops from shedding as I wear it. The wooly nylon has a “loft” to it that fills in the looper stitches so you get a fully enclosed overlock stitch. Plus it’s super soft so the interior seams are comfortable. I mean....its supposed to be a tree skirt...but I had to try it on lol Sewing and the City | Christine Lindebak 2024-12-20 | I mean....it's "supposed" to be a tree skirt...but I had to try it on lolI've had this second hand bed coverlet set aside for awhile knowing I wanted to upcycle it into a tree skirt. I love the cream on cream design in the fabric. At first I thought I would use the fringe for the edges but it was too boho for my decor, so I switched to a tried and true ruffle edge. I cut an 18" diameter circle for the main skirt and a 7" ruffle (with 1/2 edge finish and 1/2 seam allowance).I had some left over cream ribbon and so I decided to add those as ties (even though it wasn't really necessary, but it did finish it nicely!)I'm happy with how it turned out and was really simple to sew up!#holidaysewing #christmassewing

The lace is sheer so I paired it with one layer of lightweight black poplin.
