Yes it is small, compact and versitile. But the image quality reduces a dope camera to smart phone quality. Samm Sheperd 2015-11-16 | Viewer Submitted VG design in the wind tunnel: youtube.com/watch?v=_wOIALPBrwkSome more thoughts as I think of them:In short:What they do:They help air flow around things (shrink the wake/separation bubble) and help air stay attached to wings at large angles of attack.How they do it:They "energize" the boundary layer by mixing the slow layers with fast layers.Vortex generators are nothing fancy. Any little fin sticking in the air at an angle to the wind will work. there are even other non "fin" type objects that work. (like an "air tab")The back side of a cyliner or my rear windshild can be thought of like a wing at a high angle of attack! Airflow separation and stalling an airplane wing are the same thing. Wings can stall also because of sharp leading edges, making the airflow separate suddenly up front instead of starting from the back. $5 Trainer Build Techniques Samm Sheperd 2015-11-07 | FAQ'sI used the standard small "9 gram" servos like I use on everything. I used a 2200mah 3s and a 3200mah 3s but It could carry a 1000mah or even a 4000mah. When I originally made it, I only had to buy a $5 sheet of foamboard and all the other materials I found laying around my parents house. The name has since sorta sunk in and I'm not sure I can undo it. I made the "$5 trainer" while on Christmas vacation at my families house home from college. I wanted to do a project with my little brother. I had been doing some rather tedious and complicated projects (chainsaw plane and I put an autopilot on my big flying wing but didn't make a video about that) and I wanted a break and to do a simple project to get back to my roots and demonstrate that you don't need to do a whole lot to make an airplane.I was surprised by how many people requested a build video, because I don't particularly like watching build videos, though there are interesting insights and tips, they are just long and I'd rather be making my ideas come to life (or actually working on my degree).But I didn't feel like rebuilding that same plane, partly because I don't still have that blue wonder motor but also because I would rather spend my time making new things.So this video is a new airplane design, but made with the same materials and techniques as were used on the "$5 Trainer."Hope I can inspire others and provide insights on my work flow. This is a fun method because you can make the fuselage have whatever cross section you want and make things look kind of scale.
