Tera - A stroll in Seeliewood
updated
That was a tough and crazy battle! I'm so happy I managed to beat it in the end, after some perseverance. I even got the "All Dungeon Conquerer" ("Veni, vidi, vici" in French) gold trophy.
Sorry for the French, I couldn't find a way to switch to English text in the settings. But I translated the most stuff below.
Roadmap:
00:12 Look inside ("Rebel" trophy)
"... I've seen the head of the principal..."
Edit: You may also get a potion.
00:34 Take the vase (probably the same trophy can be obtained from this)
There are two different outcomes at this stage, that seem to be random. Either Egard is awake and catches you, and nothing happens, either he's asleep and you gain 500 gils that were inside the vase.
00:49 to 02:05 Put the vase at various spots
"I'll just put the vase here."
02:34 Talk to Egard while holding the vase
"This vase... Tada! This vase is the source of the water of the wise."
You obtain the item "Hermit's water" (ether).
Edit: You may also get
"This vase... Tada! Flowers came out of it!"
or
"This vase... It is completely normal."
both yielding no reward.
03:36 Throwing the vase and breaking it ("I chose violence" trophy)
There are two different outcomes, depending on whether Egard was asleep or not.
"I wonder what's inside."
"Yaaay!"
You obtain a potion. (So there was actually something else inside apart from the gils... that she didn't see before?)
04:16 Second outcome when breaking the vase while Egard is asleep
"It broke... Oh, there was something inside."
"It wasn't me!"
Egard (waking up): "...Hmm? The vase is broken..."
In this outcome you get a different cutscene where Fia proudly says "It wasn't me!" in a bigger font size before dashing out. The reward appears to be the same.
And that is just one of the many hidden things in this game... It's so old-school, I love it. I recommend the game, it gives me the same vibes as Arland Ateliers, the loli characters are cute and endearing, the seiyuus did amazing, the music is great, and the humor is top-notch. Iffy, Compa, Sting and all the Participating Creators did wonders!

This second run was stressful but also a lot of fun, and I got a few close calls but I managed to silence the enemies in the nick of time before they could give the alarm. Some situations and shots were quite epic! I'm especially happy with the shot I did at 30:21. The bullet cut through the snow..! My paths of zip lines connecting the whole game came in handy too (I took a lot of time setting up zip lines all throughout the game to have every facility connected).
I actually thought that the 50 minutes countdown on screen was for S-rank, but it turns out the requirement for S-rank is 45 minutes. And because I took just 52 seconds more, I got an A-rank instead of an S-rank. Oh well, I got the Mr. Impossible Social Link to 5 stars (and the gold trophy for getting everyone in the game to 5 stars) so I'm happy. This is an accomplishment after 136 hours of playtime.
I'm also a fan of the first Mission Impossible movie from 1996, so I appreciated the whole reference with Mr. Impossible including the "Order: Impossible" game over screen when I failed the first time!!

Nihon Falcom is my second favorite studio and I thought I'd write a love letter to express my love and gratitude to them, and also potentially to connect with other fans who may have felt similar things.

Thank You to all the creators and devs who worked on this game, and all the other Ys games. Creations like yours have changed my life and continue to give meaning to my life. Passion is what defines my life. I love you all!
That was one hell of an achievement! I'm pretty sure that was the hardest boss of the game. Unless there's more extra bosses after you beat the game. Aegir have mercy.
Also the fight was so intense that it even broke the game and caused some clipping at 2:48!
I'm loving the game so much, such a joy to play a new one from Nihon Falcom (my second favorite studio), it's filled with the tender moments between the crew and the wholesomeness that I adore so much from them. Also the theme of the sea is special for me ever since I played Atelier Totori, and Ys X feels very much like "Atelier Totori but Action-RPG", with the sea exploration on a ship, all those islands, the Alanya-like harbor towns, etc, I'm jubilating.
Anyway, that boss fight was the indubitably the easiest of the entire game for sure.

I loved her first battle in chapter 6 so a rematch is very welcome!

Still can't believe they would all blindly follow orders and turn against Karja instead of just... helping her out? Figuring this out together? Those who were calling her "Rollo" were especially ridiculous and unconvincing.
At least it all ended well. I like Phylleia's character so I'm grateful she's still good.

Also at 3:35, why didn't Karja jump on the ship like Adol did? If she did that they may have prevented what happened... She should have been able to quickly jump there like Adol did, but instead they had that slow scene, and then Adol got shot... It's like that classic scene where they reach out with their hands, but here there was no need to in order to reach the ship. It felt weird. But that's a nitpick!

Beat it in a few tries. That's when I was starting to get confident mastering the game's mechanics for this Inferno difficulty!

This is the first time I'm going for the highest difficulty in an Ys game but I don't regret it. I knew it was going to be hard in the early game but then the battles would get more "normal" later on as you become more and more overpowered (that's why I regretted not going for an even higher difficulty in Ys IX). The early game of Ys X in Inferno went well, I had a few boss battles that lasted 10 minutes and they were so epic and rewarding. This Belladonna boss and its difficulty spike made me pause to grind, mainly mastering all the skills, but also EXP and ingredients for more Dark Mana Seeds at the same time. Those greatly boosted my offensive stats! The battle then was a breeze compared to my first attempts. Now after this, the game got much easier, I'm only at chapter 5 but I already feel overpowered. Playing on Inferno was definitely the right call!

I just got back from the concert in Paris and it was such an amazing and unforgettable experience. It was my first Miku concert. It's been a dream of mine to attend one ever since the very first one "39's Giving Day" in Japan, that I still cherish so much (I have it in BluRay). I made great memories, but it's so bittersweet that it's over! The PCD (Post Concert Depression) was real! Randomly seeing people who went to the concert at the same hotel I was the next morning felt emotional, and still the day after!
I'm just disappointed that they didn't play THE classics. No "World Is Mine", no "Romeo and Cinderella", no "Black Rock Shooter", no "Miku Miku Ni Shite Ageru"! I was sure one of them would play at least for the Encore, but nope. Looks like the classics from back then were replaced by the "new classics"! I miss the era of 39's Giving Day and Mikunopolis at Los Angeles, and all the famous songs from back then.
So I actually didn't know most of the songs that played at the concert! Or maybe I did because I played all the Project Diva games but I didn't remember.
The good thing is that I got a few amazing surprises that blew me away, including this song!
This one took me by surprise and I didn't expect something so heavy at the concert but I love it. The band absolutely nailed it! And I didn't expect to see Miku headbanging either. It's so good that they repped some of the more heavy Vocaloid songs!

I so love the guitar riffs at 0:21 in this! Unfortunately the audio of the guitar got butchered in this recording so we don't hear it well and it doesn't make the same effect as hearing it live there at all, which is too bad. But at least Miku's vocals are quite clean in this recording!
I wrote up a lengthy love letter to the game including my thoughts and reactions on all the awesome hidden meanings/messages that I can relate to, for those interested: docs.google.com/document/d/15jqKWXw8vGsQr-yvs1bEpTKS9zb9QIbn8OlIrEvSfDQ/edit?usp=sharing
Thank you Takumi & all Reynatis staff!
This coincides so awesomely with me getting back from a trip in Brittany, the region of France that looks the closest to Totori's world, with the sea, Alanya-like towns, ruins, chapels, "Decaying Monasteries", menhirs/dolmens/megaliths, the local music that reminds me of Totori's OST and that is quite emotional, etc. I've had such a powerful emotional moment there when exploring and discovering landmarks while listening to fitting tracks from Totori's OST...
It finally happened and we're sailing off in Resleriana with our own ship courtesy of Roman. During this "location change" animation displaying "High Seas" that has a custom animation of Totori and Lanze sailing, I got a callback of the map animations from Totori somehow and that was so emotional, I fangasmed!
When Totori started helping Lanze out on the ship with several animations and was so used to it because of her experience in her own game... That was so wonderful and appreciated!!
I wish she would say more than just "I did travel pretty far by ship", with all that she did in her game, but oh well.
When Totori wanted to name the ship... I prayed for some epic reference to her game, like for example naming it "Pilgrimage" or "Guidance"... But nope, comic relief it is!
When Lanze said they can't fight the monsters on the deck... Dang, missed opportunity to make battles happen on the ship just like in Atelier Totori with random encounters on the sea!! Maybe there wasn't enough budget to make a new battle map and so they reused the coast map...
Rorona designed Totori's new dress the same way she made Totori's regular outfit in her game... (quote: "Apparently alchemists have to wear things like these!") She really looks fabulous. I'm obviously a huge fan of that sailor's outfit.
It's nice that she uses a gun for once, like Cordelia does.
I'm very happy with her design and animations... Nothing too fanservice-y, there's the bare shoulders and the zettai ryouiki from her original designs, I love the hat, the pink of the feathers come from the pink in her color palette and the Totori logo... Looks like her "Living Sword" was made with alchemy, too.
I LOVE how she's often doing the "adventurer looking at the sea" gesture with her hand!!
I got very lucky and I actually got Sailor Totori with my first 10 pull. That was amazing. I could also finally get regular Firis from the recent giveaway. And I used my first pity for Chuunibyou Firis. It was a good day.
Now I aim for Chuunibyou Wilbell at chapter 14, and Mimi with my second pity. She must be reunited with her best friend ♥ Three versions of them, at that!! I've got 3 versions of my favorite Atelier girl (Totori) and 2 versions of my second favorite (Firis). There was much rejoicing.
Might not be too far off when I'll be able to synthesize brand new Guardian Liquor from a kraken's arm... Totori will have Lanze try it.

I got inspired by the mushroom that Zane/Barbara used in the Yötön Yö/Nightless Night movie (and that gets mentioned in a newspaper article about Zane in the game), to use a Japanese gin that I have that is made with mushrooms and that has a very unique taste.
I thought Hendrick's gin "Orbium" was a fitting choice too.
Absinthe is known as "the spirit that drives you crazy" and "the spirit that artists drink" because it has a distinct strength from the properties of the plant, so I had to use it too.
I affectionately named this cocktail "To Madness And Beyond" in reference to the lyric from the awesome song from the Old Gods of Asgard "The Sea of Night", the exclusive track from their album "Rebirth" (that I got as CD along with 3 shirts of the band).
To Madness And Beyond cocktail recipe:
Absinthe, to rinse (I used La Pipette Verte from Distillerie Des Moisans, known for their cognac)
2 cl Hendrick's Orbium gin
1 cl Aki gin from Akayane
2 cl Heering Cherry Liqueur
1 cl Blood Orange Syrup from Monin
2.5 cl grapefruit juice
How to make:
Pour absinthe into Old Fashioned glass and leave to stand. Add all ingredients into mixing glass. Stir, throw, or shake with ice depending on the desired level of madness. Discard the absinthe of the prepared glass. Strain into the prepared glass.
Garnish (optional): twisted lemon or orange peel in the shape of a spiral "It's not a Loop, it's a Spiral"

A certain part of this event's story might actually be my favorite part of the whole game story-wise, as it was quite emotional and unprecedented (and relatable for me in a certain spiritual way). More on this in the description of my other upload "Reaching for What's Not There Cutscene BGM".

I may have shed a tear during this "Striving to Be the Boss" cutscene too, with all of this Sophie's backstory and character depth unfolding (how it connects to her grandmother in her game too), with the reason for her wearing that outfit revealed, with the sweet feelings of the adopted "delinquents", with Sophie saying "I just love everyone here", and with how everyone there is like a family (à la Fairy Tail... another game made by Gust!! My favorite non-Atelier game by Gust, which I strongly recommend, especially for the family spirit and for a certain hidden scene that alone put it in my Top 10 games ever).
Even Sophie teared up, and she had already teared up a few cutscenes back when Resna told her about her dad and why she's into alchemy. Tears don't happen that often in this game so that was impactful. They seem to have really focused on emotion for this event and I'm loving it so much.

This part was actually quite emotional for me and it took me by surprise. When the Healing Salve appeared in her hands when she was laying down in the sofa after she woke up... That made such a crazy effect! The "dream world/hidden realm" with this Ambient BGM, reminiscent of the "Dive to the Heart" place from Kingdom Hearts games, then how she actually manages to synthesize for the first time, and then she wakes up, I thought "She just had that 'click' inside the dream/her heart, so now she knows how to do it", but then we see the item already in her hands, like it appeared there out of magic, and that was highly emotional, reminding of the kinds of unexpected magical things that happen in works from Key such as Clannad, Air, and Little Busters. And when we realize that she was actually synthesizing for real, there's the fact that she was actually laying down on the sofa, not in front of the cauldron, that adds to the emotion. How could she synthesize in that position, without her cauldron? Did she actually do it all inside her mind place? And the item manifested in reality? Alchemy is a form of magic after all, so this wouldn't be too far-fetched. And we do see magical white beams of light floating near the item when the scene starts. Or did she remote-control the cauldron from her dream?
But the most probable explanation is that she did it all normally in front of the cauldron, but was so exhausted from it that she just held onto the item and immediately reached for the sofa and laid down to rest (we just don't see it), and the scene inside the "Dive to the Heart" is Resna's visual representation of what she feels she experienced. So there is an ellipsis between the synthesis inside her mind place, and the moment when she wakes up holding the item.
Still, I feel that it is deliberately left open for interpretation, and it was designed to be a mysterious and emotional moment, all while being very meaningful. And it's weird to say, even unprecedented in Atelier.
For maybe the first time, we get a focus on "How it feels like when you successfully synthesize for the first time", "How the 'click' feels like", "The heartscape of an alchemist", etc. And based on what Sophie said, Resna is quite special/powerful/potent because of how she felt like she was floating in space, I believe that represents the infinity of the untold potential Resna has as an alchemist. Like, she will be quite OP at the end and will achieve great things. Sophie says "I wonder what she stumbled on, exactly? Maybe she... Hehe." and although it's nothing explicit I just know what she means.
I think the same can be said to any of the protags in their mainline Atelier game. I headcanon that it felt at least as powerful as this for all of them. But we never had such an insight into their minds or how they felt when they first learned how to synthesize. Presented in such an emotional and meaningful way as part of a brand new alternate story, at that. Marie confirms that "Every single alchemist knows exactly how this feels." and Marion adds "Precisely. You can tell by the smiles on everyone's faces." which confirms that all the others in the room actually had a similar experience.
So this is very appreciated and I love how soulful it is. Thanks to the writers who created that story part and made it emotional like that.
On a side note, I can relate to the subtly hinted spiritual aspect of that moment. In the still image just before the "Dive to the Heart" scene, we see Resna trying to reach to the moon/the sky, with her hand.
I'll quote something quite important to me because I can relate to it so much from personal experience.
"Everybody is moving toward awakening to a psychic power that is right in front of them. These things are just a few centimeters further than your outstretched fingers."
(From episode 11 of Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko)
And I think that they aimed for that "few centimeters further than your outstretched fingers" here with Resna reaching out to the stars with her hand. It was meant to depict her trying to reach something that feels so close, yet is so distant.
I can personally relate to that because I've had powerful experiences where I felt "something else" is just "a few centimeters further than my outstretched fingers". I can feel it, but I wish I could reach it fully. Some people call it the gnosis, some call it the divine... It was just so powerful and otherworldly that it became my spirituality. For me it triggers with Passion and music. Hence why I try to spread about the power of Passion.

Firis got the power of chuunibyou finally in Atelier Resleriana. Already inspired by Revy as seen in a certain cutscene from Atelier Lydie & Suelle, she was showing potential. Now she has awakened to the forbidden truths of the black arts and will pour out her wrath on all the sinful in her sight!
Hardly enough material this far to make me satisfied, these two lines from the "Returning the Favor" cutscene are still a delight. I will be hoping for more in the upcoming chapter 11... if I can get through it.
