Characterized by a sharp decrease in population, the abandonment of the once might Mycenaean palatial centers, disruption of trade networks, the loss of literacy and a steep decline in artistic endeavors, this time period was generally one of economic hardship and political fragmentation. However, amidst the darkness there were pockets of prosperity and social changes that eventually allowed for the rise of powerful Greek city-states and the dawn of Archaic Greek civilization.

#tiryns #ancienthistory #ancientgreeceHistory of Ancient Egypt: Dynasty XXI - The Start of the Third Intermediate Period (1069-945 BC)History with Cy2024-03-27 | The glorious era of Egyptian history known as the New Kingdom, when Egypt was the envy of the world, went out with a whimper. What came afterward would be a seemingly tumultuous time in Egyptian history that was characterized by political fragmentation, cultural change, rampant corruption and eventually, foreign domination. Egyptologists call the four centuries of so after the New Kingdom era the Third Intermediate Period.
The Third Intermediate Period started with the rise of the 21st Dynasty of Egypt, a time in which both pharaohs and priests ruled the kingdom of the Nile in relative peace. This though was the calm before the storm that would eventually sweep in from the east and change the trajectory of Egyptian history forever.

#bronzeage #ancienthistory #greeceTemple of Hephaestus in Athens, GreeceHistory with Cy2024-01-07 | The Agora in Athens, Greece, was the heart of ancient Athenian life, functioning as both a marketplace and a civic center. This vibrant area served as a focal point for a wide range of activities, including trade, politics, social interactions, and cultural events.
With its name meaning "marketplace" in Greek, the Athenian Agora was a bustling hub where merchants, politicians, and citizens converged. Key architectural elements included the Stoa of Attalos, a reconstructed building with shops and offices, the well-preserved Doric Temple of Hephaestus, and the Bouleuterion, where the Athenian Council (Boule) convened. Additionally, the Agora featured various public structures, statues, and altars.
Playing a pivotal role in the democratic governance of Athens, the Agora provided a space for citizens to engage in discussions, make political decisions, and actively participate in the civic life of the city-state. Today, the Agora stands as an important archaeological site, preserving the historical and cultural heritage of ancient Athens, attracting visitors keen on exploring its rich past.
#athens #ancienthistory #ancientgreeceHistory of Ancient Egypt: Dynasty XX - Sea Peoples, Late Bronze Age Collapse and the End of an EraHistory with Cy2023-12-18 | In this program we'll take a close look at the period spanning the 20th Dynasty of ancient Egypt, which may have arguably been one of the most trying times in the country's history. After years of internal turmoil, Egypt faced a massive foreign invasion by a mysterious group of marauders and migrants who modern scholars have collectively called the Sea Peoples. Not only did they threaten Egypt's vast empire in Canaan and the Levant, but possibly even the existence of the ancient Egyptian civilization itself. The aftermath of this great confrontation resulted in the gradual decline of Egypt's fortunes as a whole as well as the decay of perhaps its last great dynasty. With harem conspiracies, corruption and the famous royal tomb robberies and trials, the events and intrigues of 20th Dynasty Egypt could make for a great HBO series like Game of Thrones. So prepare the popcorn and get comfortable as you won't want to miss this episode of Ancient Egypt, Dynasty by Dynasty.

While it is clear that the people of this civilization were experts in urban planning, sanitation and drainage systems as well as some of the greatest traders of the ancient Bronze Age world, they are also among its most mysterious. This is in part due to their writing system still not being understood as well as the puzzle of their seemingly sudden disappearance from history. It's here that the four Achaemenid king Darius I (a.k.a. Darius the Great), Xerxes I, Artaxerxes I and Darius II were laid to rest. The site was so special that several Sasanian kings added their own reliefs and inscriptions there, including on the mysterious building known as Ka'bah-e Zardusht. For these and other reasons, Naqsh-e Rustam is one of the most important and interesting archaeological sites with regard to Iran's ancient past.
