Then I stupidly broke two fingers and so was slowed down quite a bit - couldn't type or anything, but now I'm back - and I managed to get this one finished and finally passing my editors OCD checks!This edit started for me with the song catching my attention and making me think that The Untamed really did have the story of Wei Wuxian's golden core always in the characters heads. But then I thought about Wen Qing's part to play in that, which led me to Wen Ning, which led me to one of the saddest scenes I remember - and probably the first scene of this drama that I cried at.So I started editing with that scene in mind, but then as I was trying to cut the song I realised I couldn't. Because I realised from that scene on until the moment Wei Wuxian dies, I basically cried through most of those episodes the first time I watched the drama. Then trying to play off those two heartbreaking moments I realised again how many parallels there were in the motivations of WWX and WQ and also their endings.So then I followed the road of personal inspiration and made an edit with the theme of heartbreaking moments, based on the pieces of this story that broke my heart first. So this edit is a culmination of those moments - even though there are far, far many more that made me bawl my eyes out - which somehow seemed to fit perfectly with this song, hence why I didn't even try to cut it anymore and just ran with what came to me, which was everything (with a bit of time) in perfect places.I highly advise tissues, and if you've yet to watch The Untamed, I recommend you also do that! I knew all along thought it was a perfect song choice, but I remembered this cover and I actually thought the African vibe fits really well into the botanic garden scenes with Atal etc and so I knew them I had to use this version.It gave me a bit more to play around with as well, and although I've gone a little simplistic with the editing, I think it's fine as it fits with the mood and HDM has enough aesthetics in this episode alone to match, lets be honest!I've also finally kinda properly edited Will&Lyra and Mary now! I had a huge love for all these books growing up, but there is something in the way the last one is written that flows with how Lyra has grown and I'm really pleased with how that's being portrayed on screen. Just simple things, like Will looking away whilst Balthamos & Baruch have a moment, it's just little things like that I think I was dying to see. Not to mention the decision to make Ama sign was brilliant!I mean, I would've loved the Iorek & Serafina scene, but I guess we can't have everything.I massively miss Helen as the voice of Stelmaria :( She was honestly perfect for her, and there are scenes I would've loved to hear her acting on, but so far I have high hopes for Asriel's story - another character I've always felt a strange liking for, even after all he does, and all the contradictions he is as a man. I cannot wait to have more of him to edit with again!It wasn't exactly planned to use another song by Ruelle and/or Unsecret, but apparently they are my top vibes for this show, which I do find a little funny, but if it works, we go with. Then I stupidly broke two fingers and so was slowed down quite a bit - couldn't type or anything, but now I'm back - and I managed to get this one finished and finally passing my editors OCD checks!This edit started for me with the song catching my attention and making me think that The Untamed really did have the story of Wei Wuxian's golden core always in the characters heads. But then I thought about Wen Qing's part to play in that, which led me to Wen Ning, which led me to one of the saddest scenes I remember - and probably the first scene of this drama that I cried at.So I started editing with that scene in mind, but then as I was trying to cut the song I realised I couldn't. Because I realised from that scene on until the moment Wei Wuxian dies, I basically cried through most of those episodes the first time I watched the drama. Then trying to play off those two heartbreaking moments I realised again how many parallels there were in the motivations of WWX and WQ and also their endings.So then I followed the road of personal inspiration and made an edit with the theme of heartbreaking moments, based on the pieces of this story that broke my heart first. So this edit is a culmination of those moments - even though there are far, far many more that made me bawl my eyes out - which somehow seemed to fit perfectly with this song, hence why I didn't even try to cut it anymore and just ran with what came to me, which was everything (with a bit of time) in perfect places.I highly advise tissues, and if you've yet to watch The Untamed, I recommend you also do that! I am so super proud of this edit - and those of you that have followed me and my channel for a while will know that I never used to be and I'm very ocd about how I'll finish things - and I love every second of it! So I hope you all do too, although I would like to state clearly here - tissue warning!I honestly cannot wait for Series 3 and I have been trying to tick so many edits I wanted to make for Series 2 off my list and none of them were having it and then suddenly this one came out of nowhere - the longest of them all and just kinda happened.I really wanted to stick simple and eerie - so yes, in places (especially with the b&w) the colouring is a bit dark, but I wanted that effect and I think it really works. Maybe just a bit. I've been waiting to make another edit for these two since Series 2 finished as it gave us so many lovely insights to Lyra's grief and finally, finally inspiration hit! So, I would advise a tissue warning for this one, and please do let me know what you think! You all know by now that I love these two so much from the books and so this shouldn't be too much of a surprise, sad as it is!That bathroom parallel always got me and I started with that in this edit and then all their other parallels came back to me and I knew 100% that I had the right song and direction. Really cannot wait for Series 3, and you can expect the HDM edits to keep coming at the moment.I really wanted to keep the style simple and kinda 'airy' (is the word in my mind) as I thought it suited the song and the fact that Lyra is constantly looking back at the past with her best friend and comparing it to what she has. I really wanted to focus on getting the text effects right to fit with slow nature of the song, and I wanted to build up to the bigger ending of the song with the harsher moments, like Lyra admitting her friend died. I went simple in style, a subtle colouring, and I'm really pleased with this one again! And it has been a very long journey to make this quite long (for my usual length) edit.
