NAL works with some of the largest automotive OEMs in North America, speed and precision are critical. As a result, tooling is important for the teams at NAL.To remain productive and reduce downtime, the team needed to find a way to streamline their process.
The team at NAL turned to 3D printing and the MakerBot METHOD X, producing several tooling components in-house rather than outsourcing to external vendors.
The industrial-grade materials available on METHOD X also enabled them to replace heavy and costly aluminum parts with lighter weight and durable options, like nylon carbon fiber.
Seeing the results from the machine encouraged them to expand the use of 3D printing to other applications and other teams.

WIESEMANN 1893 is a consumer manufacturer of high quality tools for the makers of the world. They make everything from hammers and screwdrivers to organizers and axes. With dozens of products in their portfolio, they do a lot of prototyping.
They chose METHOD X for its professional reliability but also for its unique heated build chamber which provides a higher level of dimensional accuracy and repeatability.
They also liked the availability and ease of use of production materials from ABS to Nylon to Carbon Fiber composites and even some third-party materials using the MakerBot LABS GEN 2 Experimental Extruder.
In addition, WIESEMANN 1893 is launching ENABLE 3D - a platform they have already been using to provide their own customers with 3D files to print their own tool holders and other accessories.
The METHOD X of course allows WIESEMANN 1893 to test these files first and make sure they meet their high standards before distributing the files to customers.
