Overview: 357 SIG - The Hot Round for Cool Dudes LifeSizePotato 2016-10-28 | A short overview of the slightly misunderstood 357 SIG caliber and why I think it's pretty neat. 4K Review: Benelli B76 - Not quite a Ferrari...an Alfa Romeo, maybe? LifeSizePotato 2016-09-25 | The Benelli B-series was a line of stylish centerfire pistols produced in the late 70s and throughout the 80s. Though never very popular and generally ignored by the police departments they were intended for, they have a definite retro cool factor that can't be overlooked today. Performance overall is excellent, and if you can live with some of the innovative design's stereotypical Italian quirks, they are really quite rewarding. 4K Review: H&K P7 - a marvel of German design and engineering LifeSizePotato 2016-09-17 | I've gotten a lot of comments over the years asking for a review of my P7s. It's an amazing family of handguns and collectively are one of my favorite 9mms. I focus on my M13 (and K3) in this video, but I've owned the M8 and PSP and shot them extensively as well. The level of clever ingenuity that went into their design continuously impresses me. They are accurate, incredibly reliable, and just generally a whole lot of fun to shoot. Please research parts availability before getting too excited about this project!This video is a short overview of how I put together my USP in 10mm. It's a pretty easy and inexpensive process that leaves you with a reliable 10mm handgun and the parts to switch back to 40S&W again easily. Reliability for me has been virtually perfect for me, and while I say at the end that it won't be a defensive piece anymore, I think it would probably be fine for that purpose. Highly recommended if you like the idea of a 10mm HK pistol.Parts List:A 126mm STI 2011 magazine in 40S&W. 4K Review: Vektor CP1 - does South Africa have a space program...? LifeSizePotato 2016-09-04 | (This is a better version of my review from 5 years ago.) If not for its utterly sci-fi looks securing its popularity in Hollywood, the Vektor CP1 would be a forgotten and unloved 9mm from South Africa thanks to a safety recall in the early 2000s. This is a shame, in my opinion, because it isn't just a looker, it's also an excellent shooter and very enjoyable at the range, with surprisingly decent build quality to boot. Its unwavering dedication to looking like Mission: Mars 2050 may have it giving up something in the ergonomics and handling departments, but I still think they deserve a place in the collections of shooters looking for a 9mm that's both an interesting conversation piece and fun to use.
4K Review: Beretta 92 Billennium - Italian techno splendor in 9mm LifeSizePotato 2016-08-27 | A quick overview on my limited edition Beretta 92 Billennium. Only 2000 of these were made to commemorate the year 2000, and just 1000 made it to the US market. So far, after 300 rounds of various brands of ammo, it has been virtually 100% reliable. (A couple bobbles early on but the last ~225 rounds have been perfect.) It's an excellent platform for the round, both accurate and reasonably soft. The protruding magazine isn't ideal and I'm going to try to make another that fits entirely inside the grip. The capacity is 13+1 in this configuration. 4K Review: Steyr M357-A1 - that *other* Austrian striker pistol LifeSizePotato 2016-03-08 | NOTE: Sorry for the low framerate. I am fail at video encoding. :-(The Steyr Mx-A1 series of guns is a highly underrated polymer combat option from Austria featuring cool aesthetics and great ergonomics. The latest models have fixed most reliability problems that plagued the earliest guns, and with an excellent trigger (for a striker) and a reasonable price tag, I'd recommend them to any shooter looking for a great shooting not-Glock. The low bore axis makes the design particularly compelling when shooting super hot Underwood ammo, as the reduced muzzle rise allows extremely fast follow-up shots.

The General's Model is compact and ideal for defensive use, while the Target variant is an excellent range gun, featuring an SAO trigger and extreme accuracy due to a clever bushing system.

4K Shooting: Beretta Billennium - the tekno remix Beretta 92 LifeSizePotato 2015-10-05 | Putting some rounds through my 48oz all-steel Beretta 92. One-thousand of these were made for the US market to commemorate the year 2000. I don't normally like commemorative guns, but these are cool in their own right - all-steel, fat Brigadier slide, frame-mounted safety, SAO, and some dope carbon fiber grips. I kind of even like the weird design on the slide.
4K Shooting: Korriphila HSP 701 - the finest 45acp in the world LifeSizePotato 2015-10-05 | Putting some rounds through my Korriphila HSP. This is probably the best made semi-auto in the world - yes, it's up there with your favorite handmade 1911s. This one gets bonus points because of a unique roller delay mechanism designed by its creator, Edgar Budischowsky. It's a great shooter, and one of my favorite guns.

Review: Beretta PX4 Storm - Surprisingly great! LifeSizePotato 2015-09-13 | Before I actually bought and shot a PX4 Storm 9mm, I was among the many who kind of scoffed at its try-hard Hollywood looks and cheap discount price, assuming it was a gimmicky lame duck of a gun. I couldn't have been more wrong, and with its excellent trigger and shooting characteristics, it's become a real favorite. It's just so much fun.

There is no 9mm more finely made than a Swiss P210, and these early models with the high polish blued frame are especially nice. Accuracy is under 2" at 50 meters. Unfortunately, hammer bite is a frequent occurrence with this gun.
Shooting: Walther PPS - the best single stack 9mm for carry LifeSizePotato 2015-01-04 | Putting a few rounds through my First Edition Walther PPS in 9mm. I think these are the best single stack 9mm carry guns available. The trigger is good, accuracy is excellent, and the recoil is very soft. I can shoot it all day without discomfort.

Shooting; Sphinx AT380-M - a nice 380 from Switzerland LifeSizePotato 2015-01-03 | Putting a few rounds through my Sphinx AT380-M. The gun is an original Sphinx design from the 80s completely unrelated to their SDP or other CZ75-based guns. This particular example has an all-blue finish, which is extremely uncommon. The trigger is DAO and extraordinarily smooth.
Shooting: Steyr GB - a quality Austrian 9mm LifeSizePotato 2015-01-02 | Putting a few rounds through my Steyr GB in 9mm. These were produced in the 80s and held and impressively high amount of ammo for the time, 18+1 rounds. (Notice also how strange the magazine looks - kind of like an AR's.) Accuracy is great thanks to the long sight radius and fixed barrel. Overall quality on this alloy framed gun is also good.
Shooting: Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm - surprisingly good! LifeSizePotato 2015-01-02 | Putting a few rounds through my Beretta PX4 Storm FS in 9mm. I never really gave this gun much consideration, but after I got one, I am convinced. The trigger is quite good, and the rotary barrel system actually does work to soften recoil. I'll do a review in the near future.
Shooting: Manurhin MR73 in 357 and 9mm - literally the best revolver LifeSizePotato 2015-01-02 | Putting some 38spl through my 5.25" Manurhin MR73. After swapping out the cylinders, I also shoot some 9mm through it. I feel that commercial MR73s are the best 357 revolvers ever made, surpassing Pythons and Registered Magnums easily and even beating Korths in many ways. Truly spectacular.
Shooting: HK USP Compact - a superb chunky concealed 9mm LifeSizePotato 2015-01-01 | Putting a few rounds through my H&K USP Compact in 9mm. It's not the smallest "compact" every devised, but the size helps it shoot extremely well and accurately. I'll be putting a match trigger in it soon to really maximize the gun's potential.
Shooting; Vektor CP1 - a cool South African 9mm LifeSizePotato 2015-01-01 | Putting a few rounds through my Vektor CP1 in 9mm. The gun is a surprisingly well-made polymer that uses a gas blowback system similar to the HK P7. Accuracy is excellent.
Shooting: HK USP Expert 9mm - one of H&Ks best LifeSizePotato 2014-12-31 | Putting a few rounds through my Heckler and Koch USP Expert in 9mm. I love the ergos, controls, and most of all, the match trigger. I put a Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight on this. (Height is .280" if you want to order one.)
Review: IMI Jericho 941 Baby Eagle - Israels own CZ75 LifeSizePotato 2014-12-18 | The IMI/IWI Jericho 941 (Baby Eagle, Uzi Eagle, Baby Desert Eagle) is a good quality gun that has movie star looks. It is let down by a stupidly designed safety/decocker, but otherwise has all the makings of an excellent pistol: good trigger, good reliability, and good accuracy.

Review: Arsenal Firearms AF1 Strike One - a Russian Glock-beater? LifeSizePotato 2014-11-23 | Sorry for the length on this one. The Arsenal Firearms Strike One, though made in Italy, was designed in Russia for Spetsnaz and other special forces. Its key selling points are the extremely low bore axis and the non-tilting barrel, both designed to reduce muzzle flip and increase speed. They have been available in the US since early November 2014 for $884 shipped from Sooner State Arsenal.Verdict for those who can't spare 26 minutes? It's a great gun, let down by a mediocre Glocky trigger. Muzzle flip is indeed reduced, but not to the impressive extent seen in the Chiappa Rhino.Just for fun, here are some polymer matchups and who would win in my mind:AF1 vs. USP: USP. Perfect reliability, better ergos, and, more importantly, the match trigger upgrade kit, which beats the AF1 handily.AF1 vs. Glock: Ignoring price, AF1. Better made. AF1 vs. XD: Ignoring price, AF1. Better made, better trigger, lower recoil, less ugly.AF1 vs. PPQ/VP9: Tough call. The Walther and HK have better triggers for sure. It's a draw.AF1 vs. Steyr M9A1: Steyr. Cheaper, also well made, and better trigger. Looks cooler, too.
Shooting: Benelli MP3S - sleek Italian bullseye in 9mm and 32S&W Wadcutter LifeSizePotato 2014-11-08 | Putting a few rounds through both of my Benelli MP3Ses, based on the B76 platform. These are the most premium, top-of-the-line Benelli B-series pistols available. They are single action-only and geared at bullseye competition shooting. The triggers are superb. This 9mm version is the first and only 9mm MP3S I've ever actually been able to confirm the existence of. The 32S&W Wadcutter variant is the more common of the two, though still extremely rare. Recoil is almost non-existent in that one.
Shooting: Benelli B76S Sport 9mm - an Italian DA/SA race car LifeSizePotato 2014-11-05 | Putting a few rounds through my Benelli B76S Sport. This model is based on the more common B76, but features enhancements like: ergonomic anatomical grips, tuned DA/SA trigger, high gloss slide, barrel weight, and extended sight radius. It's a great shooter, very accurate and it's beautifully finished.
Review: WWF Little Tom - the first DA/SA handgun ever LifeSizePotato 2014-10-31 | A review of a couple unique Austrian pistols from the 1920s. The Wiener Waffenfabrik's Little Tom pistols were the first semi-autos on the market to use a DA/SA trigger system. Before them, every semi-auto was SAO or striker fired. It eventually inspired the designed of the Walther PP. Shooting: Benelli B77 - a fantastic Italian 32acp LifeSizePotato 2014-10-28 | Putting a few rounds through my Benelli B77, which is the 32acp version of the more common B76 in 9mm. It is probably my best shooting 32acp - very accurate, excellent grip angle, nicely weighted steel construction, and a good trigger. B77s are extremely hard to find, but the B76s come up from time to time. I think of them as the poor man's Pardini GT9, which is far from an insult.
Shooting: Pardini GT9 - My favorite 9mm LifeSizePotato 2014-10-22 | Putting a few rounds through my Pardini GT9. This is a high-end Italian target pistol and due to its styling, trigger, ergonomics and accuracy, is my absolute favorite 9mm at the range.
Shooting: MAB PAP F1 - not your everyday PA-15 LifeSizePotato 2014-10-22 | Putting a few rounds through my MAB PAP F1, which is a match-grade accurized version of the more common PA-15. These were used by French military and pistol team competitors and feature similar accuracy to the legendary Swiss P210. The guns are all steel, weighing in at 44oz, and feature a rotating barrel similar to the Beretta PX4 Storm.
Shooting: Vektor SP1 Target - A target Beretta 92 from South Africa LifeSizePotato 2014-10-22 | Putting a few rounds through my Vektor SP1 Target. The regular SP1 is a well-made Beretta 92 clone from South Africa. This is the accurized SAO target version. Build quality and performance are great, and the slide racks as smoothly as a P210 or Pardini GT9.
Shooting: Colt Diamondback 22lr - a mini Python LifeSizePotato 2014-10-21 | Putting a few rounds through my Colt Diamondback in 22lr. Shame about the rubber grips.

I had run out of ammo by this point unfortunately so all I could film was the single-action demo. This gun isn't really related to the legendary MR73, sharing some DNA with Rugers, believe it or not, but it is still a great shooter and looks cool.

JSL was a British firearms manufacturer who only existed for a few years in the 90s. They specialized in high-quality, handmade CZ75 clones made of all steel. This one has a compensator that reduces felt recoil to almost nothing.
Shooting: Sphinx AT2000S - A Swiss Jewel in 9mm LifeSizePotato 2014-10-20 | Putting a few rounds through my Swiss-made Sphinx AT2000S. This is essentially a hand-made CZ75/Tanfoglio clone, crafted of the best materials and with extremely tight fitment. It's the ultimate CZ75.
