Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on the First Crusade continues with the aftermath of the battle of Civetot of 1096 (youtu.be/lArYYQxRkA8) during the so-called People's Crusade of the First Crusade and the battle of Nicaea of 1097 (youtu.be/Pp8gooljT1E) as the Princes' Crusade began. The Crusaders continued moving into the Asia Minor and had to fight against the forces of the Seljuk Sultan of Rum Kilij Arslan in Dorylaeum (youtu.be/irQLNITTqd4) and after the victory over the sultan, the road to Syria was open, leading to the Siege of Antioch in 1097-1098 (youtu.be/2yvVPfUpGRc), but the partial victory of the crusaders in this siege was followed by a counter-attack of various Seljuk generals, leading to the biggest battle of the First Crusade - the battle of Antioch (youtu.be/ztHyABVByeA). In the aftermath of the battle, the crusade almost collapsed, as the infighting between the princes became too difficult to resolve leading to a Civil War like situation (youtu.be/RywLZ9h-Cfg). Despite this situation, Crusaders managed to retain some of their unity and continued deeper into Syria, where they fought at Ma'arra. Unfortunately, that was the battle that turned them into cannibals.

Afterwards, Alexander's Asian campaign continued, as after defeating the remnants of the Acahemenid Empire at the battle of the Persian Gate and the Uxian Defile and the Persian Gates (youtu.be/jkm4erY7l-0), Alexander marched into Central Asia, taking on the Saka at the battle of Jaxartes in 329 BC (youtu.be/x9qgM6zxzSY). Alexander's next target was the Sogdian Rock, where Spitamenes raised a rebellion against him and we also talk talked about the assassination of Cleitus (youtu.be/5YPUhomJ_Dw). Then we discussed Alexander's campaign in Afghanistan, called Cophen (Kabul) campaign by the ancients and another assassination attempt, this time by the royal pages led by Hermolaus (youtu.be/1VYDWyGo1uU). With the Cophen Valley secured, Alexander left Taxiles and pressed deeper into the sub-continent, making for the Hyphasis River. To do so, however, Alexander would have to pass through the territories of numerous Indian kings, having to either defeat or subjugate them in order to protect his rear. This portion of Alexander’s campaign from, Taxila to the Hyphasis, would prove to be some of the most difficult of Alexander’s career and the battle of Hydaspes against the Indian king Porus would occur during it. We are planning to cover all campaigns of Alexander and all of his major battles, including Gaugamela, Tyre, Issus, Granicus, Halicarnassus, Gaza, Hydaspes and more.

Kings and Generals historical animated documentary series on the history of the Early Modern Era and the English civil war continues. In our previous video, we covered how the English Civil War finally broke out after decades of buildup, ultimately leading to the conflict’s first major pitched battle at Edgehill, in October 1642 (youtu.be/3PiGT2t_lGo). Many spectators and participants alike hoped this clash would end the conflict, but they were tragically mistaken, for the flawed generalship and heavy losses among King Charles I’s royalist army would lead to a deadlock that trapped the British Isles in bitter civil war for almost another two decades. Charles’ march on London and the campaign of 1643, culminated at the First Battle of Newbury (youtu.be/dkHRTnWdA9s). In the aftermath, the war continued both in England and Scotland, leading go the climactic battle of Marston Moor in 1644 (youtu.be/PJ7VWqQwYag). This new episode will talk about the rise of the New Model Army and the decisive battle of Naseby which was fought in 1645. In this series we will cover the main battles of the civil war between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians, including Edgehill, Newsbury, Marston Moor, Naseby, Preston, Drogheda, Dunbar and others.

Third season of the Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on the Early Muslim Expansion starts with the aftermath of the battles against the Sassanid and Eastern Roman empires at Yarmouk and al-Qadisiyyah (youtu.be/r2cEIDZwG5M) and battles of Ctesiphon, Alexandria, Nikiou, Jerusalem, Sufetula, Heliopolis, and Nahavand (youtu.be/baHT2nR5Wr4). We are going to cover the aftermath of the beginning of the First Fitna (Civil War) in the Rashidun Caliphate (youtu.be/5a6PyMTLL1E) and the battle of Siffin of 657, which led to the rise of the Umayyad Caliphate (youtu.be/FVkTzYmoIoI), external expansion continued with the siege of Constantinople in 674-678, but this didn't stop the Second Fitna from happening, leading to the battles of Karbala (680) and Marj Rahit (684) (youtu.be/BZa_HjChaS0). We also previously talked about the conclusion of the Second Fitna and the rise and fall of the Zubayrid Caliphate (youtu.be/gteP2lmh42U). In another episode the armies of the Caliphate return to the frontiers, clashing with the crumbling Byzantine Empire in Armenia and North Africa. In the latter, they would not find opposition not just in the Roman remnant, as the rise of a new warrior queen among the Berbers posed a serious challenge to Hassan ibn al-Nu’man’s conquering army in the Maghreb. And even as the Umayyads won victories on the battlefield and expanded ever further, the cohesion and unity of their empire continued to deteriorate on their Eastern frontiers, planting the seeds of their eventual collapse. And we will also discuss how Carthage was razed once again (youtu.be/NoF8XCseFio). This new episode will focus on the first Muslim incursion into India, as we discuss the Sindh campaign that allowed the Arabs to gain a foothold in the subcontinent.

Kings and Generals' historical animated documentary series on the history of Rome continues with an episode of the post-Caesar Civil Wars, as we look at what happened after the initial shock of Caesar's assassination. Previously we talked about the battle of Mutina and its aftermath (youtu.be/3Qdi0VUOn3Q) as Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus created a triumvirate, taking over Rome, which signaled to Brutus and Cassius, that there will be another civil war (youtu.be/D9duJSBBs14). The latter collected their legions and started building their base of operations, leading to the battles of Xanthos and Rhodes (youtu.be/liY-egBx0qQ), and that, in turn lead to the battle of Philippi that would decide the fate of the war between the Caesareans and Pompeians (youtu.be/0B83Jk1qB9c). After Philippi, Octavian and Antony basically divided Rome between them. In this episode we will see what was happening in the western part in 41-40 BC as Octavian had to deal with a number of enemies and crises, which culminated at the Perusian War where Caesar's heir was forced to fight Antony's wife Fulvia and his brother Lucius (youtu.be/XtXdEjWjA9g). On the other side of the Roman realm, Parthian-Pompeian alliance led by prince Pacorus and Quintus Labienus invaded and forced Antony and his lieutenant Publius Ventidius Bassus to defend in West Asia in 40 BC.

In the aftermath, the war continued both in England and Scotland, leading go the climactic battle of Marston Moor in 1644. In this series we will cover the main battles of the civil war between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians, including Edgehill, Newsbury, Marston Moor, Naseby, Preston, Drogheda, Dunbar and others.
Kings and Generals' historical animated documentary series covering the Pacific War week by week continues. In our last episode, we covered the direct aftermath of the key Battle of Edson’s Ridge, the second Japanese offensive in Guadalcanal that caused so many losses for the invaders that it’s today remembered as the Battle of the Bloody Ridge. Because of this major defeat and because they started to feel like they were losing the initiative against their enemies, the Japanese then began to prioritize the Guadalcanal theater, sending almost 17500 men in their characteristic Tokyo Express to finally win what they perceived to be the most decisive battle of the Pacific War. Today, we are going to cover the American attempt to intercept the Japanese express runs during the Battle of Cape Esperance, as well as the recent developments in the air warfare over the Aleutian Islands.

Kings and Generals' historical animated documentary series covering the Pacific War week by week continues. With the withdrawal on the Kokoda Track and the recent defeat at the Battle of Edson’s Ridge, the Japanese high command was now beginning to understand that they were losing the initiative against the resilient American and Australian forces in the Pacific. In that regard, more resources began to be allocated for the Guadalcanal Campaign, in a build-up that would lead to one of the bloodiest engagements of the Pacific War. But in the meantime, today we’ll cover the direct aftermath of the struggle at the Bloody Ridge, as both sides sought to reinforce their position on the island and the US Marines prepared to launch a series of raids against their opponents at the Matanikau area.

Kings and Generals' historical animated documentary series covering the Pacific War week by week continues. The Imperial Japanese Navy shocked the world when it consolidated most of its aircraft carriers into a striking force in 1941 and surprise-attacked Pearl Harbor. Something that is not as well known is that the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor would be replicated against Darwin, Australia by most of the same warships and aviators. This was the dawn of the aircraft carrier as the pinnacle of modern warfare, and the IJN were making full use of their carrier fleet. Out of all their carriers to rain terror upon the allies, one began the war as a flagship. This episode is about the IJN carrier Akagi and Australia's Pearl Harbor.
Kings and Generals' historical animated documentary series covering the Pacific War week by week continues. Ten months into the Pacific War, we are reaching one of the high points of the conflict. In the Kokoda Track, Horii’s South Seas Detachment continues its advance towards Port Moresby and in Guadalcanal, the forces of Kawaguchi are preparing for their second major offensive of the campaign and the Battle of the Tenaru. With both events happening at the same time, the Japanese came to be as close as possible for them to materialize their objectives of seizing New Guinea and recapturing Guadalcanal, but alas, fate would see them fail on both enterprises. Today we cover the Battle of Edson’s Ridge.
