Family Portraits : Behind The Scenes : Shoot To Edit Zack Arias 2020-04-18 | In this video I dust off over a decade of rust when it comes to photographing families! I recently did mini sessions for families in my neighborhood. I’ll walk you through my thought process, my location scouting, the gear I used for these, the lighting, and finally how I quickly edited the photos in Lightroom. Phottix Indra 500 TTL Strobe Zack Arias 2015-02-27 | I have a utopian goal of simplifying my photography equipment to a bag of cameras and a bag of lights. I don't know if I'll ever get there but I'm trying. I currently have three lighting systems. Hotshoe flashes, Alienbees, and Elinchrom Quadras. This has been an organic growth of gear for me but that growth is getting out of hand right now and I need to get it under control. I'd love one system with one set of modifiers. I wanted something that had great image quality, was versatile and affordable, and had good third party support for a variety of accessories. I looked at Sony, Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Blackmagic, Pentax, etc, etc, etc. I looked at everything up to a Canon C100 and decided that the Panasonic GH4 was the best camera for our needs. Notes about this video - I know that a direct comparison of the GH4 to something like the Canon 5D3 isn't an apples to apples discussion. I did give serious consideration to the 5D3 and the 7D as well as the Nikon counterparts. I looked at full frame, APS, and of course, M43's. Features, size, and price were some of my main considerations. At the end of the day the GH4 came out on top.A note about the Voigtlander lens in this video. I bought a used camera some time ago and that lens came with the camera and I use it from time to time on the GH4. I included it in this video when comparing it to a Canon kit and listed its new price just to be fair on pricing a comparable kit based on what I own. I have no other reason why I have that Voigtlander other than I already owned it. Another note to make is I have recently added the Panasonic 7-14mm f4 lens to my kit as we have found we need a wider option than the 12-35mm f2.8 from time to time.Be sure to check out the full blog post accompanying this video for more information, thoughts, and links to other resources. Crop Sensors vs Full Frame :: Crop Or Crap? Zack Arias 2014-07-28 | Let's get a few things out of the way ::I have said, in the past, that you should move toward full frame sensors. I have always championed full frame sensors. At the end of the day, full frame sensors beat APS sized and smaller sensors.The whole reason I bought an original x100 was because it had the largest sensor I could find in a small camera. It had been a number of years since I had shot an APS crop frame sensor. The last APS camera I shot professionally was the Nikon D200. I replaced that with a Nikon D3 (full frame) and then moved on to the Canon 5d2, (also full frame.) From the time I retired my D200 to using the x100 on jobs was about four years. When I bought that little x100 I had ZERO desire to change to a new camera system. I sure as hell was NOT going to switch from a full frame camera to an APS camera. Full frame cameras are better.
