The UCI gravel series is attracting a lot of pro cyclists who go head to head with amateurs to qualify for the World Gravel Championships in October. ALL OR NOTHING on Col du PORTET!! - Stage 5 Haute Route Pyrenees Jasper Verkuijl 2022-12-11 | The final stage of the Haute Route Pyrenees 2022 was the most important one!! Everything can happen and I could make or break my race this day. In stage 4 I attacked on the number 4 in the GC (Sami Inkinen) but lost more than I gained. Nevertheless I got very close to another rider.... I took a few risks in order to increase my chance of succes but did it play out?...On this day we had a relative short stage but not less hard than others, ending with the biggest climb of all week: Col du Portet. This is my experience of the Haute Route Pyrenees 2022. Haute Route is the hardest and most complete multi day event you can ride as an amateur cyclist. The stages are very similar to the Grand Tours of World tour Professianal cycists. In this event we raced 5 stages in 5 days, 627km and 15.700m of elevation, starting in Biarritz and ending in Saint Lary. IS ON!! 🔥 Stage 4 Haute Route Pyrenees Jasper Verkuijl 2022-12-09 | After my successful attack on Col du Tourmalet in stage 3, I was eager to gain more time the riders in front of me in the GC! On stage 4 of Haute Route Pyrenees we had 2 big climbs of which the last one was really tough: 20km of climbing on Cap de Long! In the first 3 stages I got to know the other riders and it was time to make some friends and choose my battles! My best bet: attack in the descent! What does it take to WIN a GranFondo!? - Les Trois Ballons 2022 Jasper Verkuijl 2022-08-15 | How hard is it to Win a Granfondo? Or even just stay with the first group? In this race I threw all my usual pacing strategy out the window and went FULL GAS uphill with the first group to see if I'd be able to keep up. At the time of this race my estimated FTP was about 385w at 82kg. I can push a lot of power but I'm a big guy so definitely in a disadvantage on the steeper climbs. This Granfondo is called Les Trois Ballons. It's in the Vosges in France, an area also featured in the Tour de France. The race is one of the bigger granfondo races in Europe by the same organisation of ''La Marmotte'', a race I did in 2017&2017. Les 3 Ballons goes over 6 cilmbs adding up to 4000m+ of elevation in 178km, so it's a big one.
