This time, we're trying out a 24-Hour IRP-P meal kit that was packaged in 2021 and expired in 2023—over two years past its prime. Russian combat rations aren’t known for long shelf life, and this one proved it. The crackers were stale with a sharp chemical bite, the coffee had visible mold (which I still tried), and the liver pate tasted more like the can it came in than actual food. Despite the age, some components held up surprisingly well—especially considering how few preservatives are used in these army provisions. With 3,500 calories spread across breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this MRE would have been much better fresh—but it’s still a fascinating look at what Russian soldiers eat in the field. United Nations Combat Ration (12-Hour Patrol MRE) UN Forces Peacekeeper Meal Ready To Eat Taste Test Readiness Rations 2024-12-08 | We are checking out a UN Patrol Combat Ration Pack. This military ration is produced in the UK for use by the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces and is extremely similar to the British 12-Hour Field Ration. It is very much like an American Meal Ready to Eat; however, it provides a bit more food than an MRE. These meal kits have several variants which coincide with the different dietary requirements and tastes of soldiers around the world. This particular example is Occidental Menu 2, supposedly for a western palate.
