With these modules costing twice the amount originally proposed by the FAA, it would seem that some financial relief is in order -- just as was offered to manned aviation when the rule required them to have ADSB installed for some classifications of airspace back in 2020.
If you agree with this then why not ask the FAA for a $50 rebate... the difference between what they said RID modules would cost and the amount being charged for the cheapest options.

The only people surprised by this are the FAA themselves and this speaks to a huge disconnect between the regulators and those being regulated.

I would urge everyone affected to check with their insurance company to make sure that they will still have valid cover after September 16th -- just in case.
Also, should we be pushing for parity with the manned aviation community who were offerd a $500 rebate to install ADSB on their aircraft? Given the cost of a broadcast RID module is two to five times that suggested in the final rule, it seems only reasonable that some form of rebate be on offer to compensate for this situation.

This must surely raise the suspicion that the FAA has designed RID to fail.
Also check out how the US government also believes in disclosure of vunerabilities in sophisticated systems: nvd.nist.gov
