Easy Meadowsweet Mead Recipe- How to Make Mead with the ORIGINAL Mead Herb City Steading Brews 2021-08-03 | Meadowsweet Mead. How to Make an Easy Mead Recipe with the ORIGINAL Mead Herb. A few people have asked us to do this, so we thought, why not? Meadowsweet has been used for centuries in meadmaking, and it even shares a history with the word mead itself, making it the original mead herb and addition. Why? Well, they say it adds an almond like flavor to the mead, and meadowsweet is a highly sought after herb for medicinal and healing properties. Early meads were part food preservation, part medicine, and part booze. When you can combine all three, that's a huge win. For this mead we added some non-traditional ingredients such as orange zest, but you can leave it out if you like. I'm unsure of tea being around at the time this was used, but, I like the tannins the tea adds to a mead, so we used it.
