I look forward to reconnecting with my community and welcoming in those who are new. Thank you for your patience on this one, I have some "die-hard" Retro fans (you know who you are) who have really lit a fire under me to get this thing done. I appreciate you--all of you--but especially those who still support me when I don't post for months.
Now-on to the content. I debated on slicing this into several videos, but honestly folks, part 2 videos, much less part 3's and 4's don't get any watch time. And I would hate for this one to be missed. Granted most folks won't make it through the feature-length one either (not being negative, it's just the way of things in the YouTube world) however, I still think it will ultimately perform better as a feature-length film, especially if I release it as a premiere. I am really starting to fight for monetization now, so I need to get my watch time up however I can, even when I'm struggling with consistent video uploads. I gave away a lot in this preview, because I want folks to see just how life-changing this overnight experience was. If I had any doubts about paranormal before, I don't now. Neither American Explorer or I have experienced anything even close to this--and I personally have been on a lot of ghost hunting adventures with channels dedicated solely to that purpose. I had experienced some very disturbing EVPs on recordings after the video excursion was said and done, but nothing had happened to me in real time (of significance) before this night. Never before had I heard this many unexplained noises. Never had I been this scared. In the past, I had been frightened momentarily, sure, but things could be explained away as tricks of the mind, or the wind, or other things related to nature. Not this night. Yes, a few nocturnal animals entered the mix, I am sure of it. And we explained away all that we could. But I was left with so many unanswered questions after this night--and it was all I could think about for awhile. I also want to note that yes, I include sound effects and music in my editing. And I ALWAYS will. Don't come at me for this. This is my style and if you don't care for it--I don't need to tell you that there are thousands of other channels you could choose from. I never put sound or music in that covers up or changes the integrity of my footage. If you want to hear the unexplained occurrences, in their raw form, watch the feature-length video when it comes out. You will see and understand FAR more than this preview video can relay to you. If you've read this far, thank you. Please like this preview video and comment your thoughts. I hope I am not coming off as too negative, it is not my intent and I am really excited about the future of The Retromantic Channel, but it's time to work a little harder and care a little less about anyone who doesn't support my endeavors. You're either in or you're out. Big talk coming from a little channel, I know--but I'm ready for some changes.
BTW--HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Retromantic Channel. On May 27th, it was 4 years old. And what an adventure it has been--wouldn't change it for the world. π
Look out for more news about the release of this video SOON. π» Love you all. ππ
I created this sampling nearly a year ago now, and figured it was high time to release it. Some favorite moments here. Some published--some not. This is not only a representation of my channel, but a remembrance of the time I was living in. These are fond memories and I cherish all of those who come--and go from my life. Thanks for being a part of the Retromantic YouTube Channel.
Here's to future times--and future footage. β

Sir Daniel and I visited Creepy Con for the second time and found the energy level to be THROUGH THE ROOF this year! We could not pass a creepy character without them acting out for our video--or jumping into the conversation...it was so much fun! Whereas the Oddities and Curiosities Expo, I previously uploaded focused mainly on items and art for sale, this convention is ALL ABOUT THE SPOOKY FOLK! There are some costumes featured in this one that will BLOW YOUR MIND. And BEWARE the reoccurring slasher...π±πͺ

Let's take a walk through an interesting location.LIVE: Overnight Paranormal Investigation In The Abandoned Youth CampThe Retromantic2022-09-25 | NO people. NO cell phone signal. Just American Explorer and I...deep in the Georgia woods...with only abandoned buildings, wildlife...and possibly some paranormal activity...if something were to happen...there's NO help. But there is possibly a lot to experience overnight--in this fascinating location. Is this a good idea? Are we walking into a Blair Witch type situation? Will only our footage be found? All jokes aside, let us know what you think--ask questions and bid us farewell as we enter the woods for our overnight paranormal investigation of 6 abandoned buildings--directly after this livestream.IM NOT SO SURE ABOUT THIS... (Overnight In The Abandoned Youth Camp)The Retromantic2022-09-20 | Ok, so it is possible I went a little over dramatic with this trailer. But truly, it's going to be pretty scary, I believe. Just hoping to avoid the Blair Witch element of it...but hopefully our footage will be found if we are not....LOL. Anyway, American Explorer and I are going to hold a paranormal investigation of all 6 buildings on this property--miles deep into the Georgia woods. We will be there all night long. Got questions? Want to bid us farewell? Livestreaming on Saturday, September 24th, 2022...before we head in. Not sure of the time as of yet, but if you're around, we'd love to chat a few. But contrary to what the title says--don't convince us to back out of this one. We're fully committed! A couple of brave souls you're dealing with right here...π
In this 2021 video, I left a lot more raw footage than I did the previous year the event was held (2019). I wanted more of "OFF THE RECORD" to be heard since they did an amazing job. Only cost me 4 copyright claims...could have been worse, right? See KISS, Madonna, HULK HOGAN, what Santa does in August...and my sweet NKOTB hat that I've had since I was 10! And will my 80's Toys Mini-Float be a hit? Also--the kids in this video were WILD! I've never seen kids rock out this much to 80's era music.
And you gotta love the boy who said he wished he was an 80's kid right?!π

This cabin is really cool, with a suspension bridge, a tree growing through it, a creek flowing under it--and amazing woodland views. In this video, Sir Daniel and I visit a "dead mall" called Inlet Square--in Myrtle Beach, SC. We try to re-live our youthful days of mall excitement, but sadly that's impossible in today's times. Most of the stores here are empty--and the only remaining anchor store is a Belk. I did find this mall to be unique because it had an abandoned arcade, theater and bowling alley we could look into. I also enjoyed the fact that one of the mall's former anchor stores was a K-mart. This video includes lots of photos of the mall when it was filled and days were better. I was actually impressed though, at some of the creative ways the mall came up with to keep things going for awhile. Auctions, yard sales, estate sales, churches, art galleries, educational programs and more were found in some of the old mall store spaces. Please join us for the first dead mall video on my channel. There will be more in the future!

#amityvillehorror #abandonedHot Springs Resort & Spa: A History & A Soak In The Mineral WatersThe Retromantic2022-01-26 | My friend Nick and I took a day to drive to Hot Springs, NC to visit the Hot Springs Resort and Spa and check out the curative mineral waters for ourselves. Folks have been doing just the same since 1778. The history of this area is incredible. Three hotels burned to the ground and the property was also the site of a German Internment Camp during WW1. The current Resort and Spa has been operating since 1990 and the neat thing about the location is that the remains of the former bathhouse and other structures have been left undisturbed on the property--so this video takes on a bit of an abandoned exploration as well. Just one problem....

What will happen?
You might be surprised...
Spring Pastry Puffs (1963)
Ingredients 6 slices of bread 6 slices of processed cheese Bunch of asparagus (enough to make about 24 pieces) 3 eggs? 6 eggs? (I still don't know π€¦ββοΈ) 1/4 cup mayonnaise 1/4 teaspoon salt Dash of pepper (RJ knows what a dash is...color me impressed π)
In broiler, toast 6 bread slices on one side. Place a slice of process(ed!) cheese on each untoasted side; broil to partially melt cheese. Remove from heat and place 3 or 4 spears of hot cooked (you gotta COOK it first! π) asparagus on top of each cheese slice. Beat (what did those poor eggs ever do to us?) 3 egg yolks til thick and lemon colored, stir in 1/4 cup mayonnaise, (We say add MORE mayo! π) 1/4 teaspoon salt, and dash pepper; fold (Witchcraft, I tell ya! π€¬) in 3 stiff-beaten egg whites. Pile (good luck with THAT! π€) mixture atop asparagus. Bake at 350Β° about 13 minutes in till egg mixture is set. Serves 6. (Invite the neighbors over for this delectable treat! π€ͺ)

I ended up at the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. This historical bridge first opened to traffic in 1925 and was officially closed in 2011. It sat abandoned for a few years, and was actually slated for demolition at one point--however some members of the community presented their idea for a creative use of the old bridge. Today the bridge is home to over 700 plants (including large cacti!) and many interesting places to stop such as Mr. MacGregor's Garden, the Secret Garden...and a lot more. The garden extends beyond the bridge onto the banks beside it and underneath. I was also entertained by the garden's interesting uses of vintage items. The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is free to visit and definitely worth a stop if you ever find yourself in the Lake Lure, Chimney Rock area of North Carolina. American Explorer and I were out for a day of exploring in Cherokee, NC. We had 2 planned locations, but ran across this one randomly as we were driving around. We were on the fence about stopping...night was falling and it had been a long day already. But we decided we might as well...after all, it might be a nice little roadside find. Unfortunately that was not the case. The former Smokey Mountains Cabins were currently (and for some time) being used as a rent-free place for illegal activities. As we nervously explored the cabins and grounds, we kept hearing sounds and were fully expecting someone to walk up at any time. Most units were full of garbage, drug paraphernalia and buckets of human excrement. While I did not focus heavily on these things, they will be seen in the video, so please consider that before watching. We do not recommend this type of explore and do not actively seek it out. We did have protection with us. One last thing I want to mention is that humor is something American Explorer and I use often. You will see us make many jokes about the place, but at the end of the day, it was really sad and disturbing to see that people suffer from that level of addiction and live that way. I'm including some links for addiction help. As always, thank you for watching (if you choose to) and for being a member of my community here on YouTube.

If you are not familiar with their channel, please take a moment to visit it at the link below this description.
This is a lesser known former resort, in fact, there's only a few videos of it online and most people aren't sure what the name of the place actually was. It most likely opened in the 40's and closed in the early 90's. Although it had a few updates throughout the decades, for the most part it retained it's retro look. It has less vandalism and no graffiti, as compared to it's more popular counterparts in the area. There are things you wouldn't expect to see like perfectly intact (now vintage) curtains and mid-century furniture in this resort. It was a quaint place, maybe not as many frills as some of the other resorts, but it was very nice in it's heyday. It's in a serene and peaceful location in the woods. And the pool is huge! If you have any information about this location, let us know in the comments, but please don't give away it's location as we want to keep the place preserved as much as we can.
*If you do happen to know this location, I would not recommend visiting, as it is currently watched by a caretaker who is kind, but will ask you to leave.

More Info USS Alabama (BB-60), 1942-1964 USS Alabama, a 35,000 ton South Dakota class battleship, was built at the Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth, Virginia. Commissioned in August 1942, she operated along the U.S. east coast in late 1942 and early 1943 and was then stationed in the North Atlantic to guard against the threat of raids by German heavy ships. Alabama was transferred to the Pacific in August 1943. During November of that year, she took part in the operation to capture the Gilbert Islands. In 1944, Alabama participated in taking the Marshalls, the Marianas and Leyte, the Battles of the Philippine Sea and Leyte Gulf, and raids on Japanese positions elsewhere in the Pacific.
Following overhaul and training in January-April 1945, the battleship rejoined the fleet for operations in the Western Pacific, including attacks on the Japanese home islands. She took part in the occupation of Japan and the return of veterans to the United States in August-October 1945. USS Alabama decommissioned at the Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton, Washington, in January 1947 and remained in reserve until struck from the Naval Vessel Register in June 1962. Two years later, she was turned over to the State of Alabama. Since September 1964, Alabama has been berthed at Mobile, Alabama, as a memorial to those who served and sacrificed during World War II. Since that time, many more have opened--and closed, however--there are still some hanging on! These stores fought their way through the discount store domination years of K-Mart and Walmart! In the next town over from where I live, Sylva, NC, there is a Roses store that has been going strong since the 1970's. It doesn't appear to have had many, if any, updates since the 1980's. Join Sir Daniel and I as we take a shopping trip to this "time warp" of a retail establishment. We'll have an eye out for retro-inspired items--and we'll be goofing off along the way (as per usual!) π

(Youth Camp Series #4)The Retromantic2021-05-05 | Next up is the 4th "house" (originally a chapel) that was discovered in the Abandoned Youth Camp series. We believe this area was a camp for troubled youth late 70's through the 90's. It may have been used for other things during that time as well. It is very far back into the Georgia woods with no roads directly to it. The camp is virtually untouched with no graffiti and very little vandalism. (a few broken windows) Very few explorers have been here. American Explorer and I decided to document each of the houses--and you can see the first 3 at the links below. This building was used as a chapel at one point, but also looked at if it was used for extra rooms for campers, as well as in 2 loft areas above. It currently looks as if it is being used as a storage area for a firearms training course. Join AE and I as we check out the chapel--and see what's in store for us at the next house as well!

The church was built in 1975 to replace a much older church in a tiny town nearby. There are currently no traces of the original church and the town it resided in. The church is still in use for services 1-2 times a month--and is always open. It is just one simple room, no electricity--and outhouses out back. The adjacent graveyard predates the church back to the late 1800's. Hard to believe there is still a place like this in operation--it definitely took me back to a simpler time...
