They find a suitable ash tree and after splitting, shaping and pounding it, its rings split into thin strips, ring for ring, which the Sanipasses split again by hand and cut with a traditional tool. Running Water was raised on Indian Island and now lives in southern Maine far from her people. She has a skin condition that is taking the pigment from her skin, which represents to her the fact that she lives in two worlds-she carries much traditional knowledge and the heart of the native ways, and lives in the white world. Forty years later he returned to his people and brought an elder's vision to the Wabanaki and has worked with the young leaders to bring the people together to walk in alignment with the sacred ways of the Creator.

It is the environmental turning point on Earth. Two daughters of Maine, Connie Baxter Marlow and Sarah Pletts, have responded to this momentous time and created works of art that lead a pathway to the opening of the humanheart.The Maine Women Writers Collection and the Living Arts Foundation of Aspen, Colorado are hosting Ms. Marlow and Ms. Pletts and featuring their works in three events at the University of New England on Wednesday, April 26 and Thursday April 27.Connie Baxter Marlow has written the book, GREATEST MOUNTAIN: KATAHDIN'S WILDERNESS. Yes, Connie is a Baxter. She follows in her great uncle Governor Percival's footsteps in a big way. Since returning to Maine in '98, Ms. Marlow has brought many people together who might not have otherwise met. In her book and these events, she bridges the worlds between New Englanders and Native Americans, who share deep roots and a love of all things wild. Ms. Marlow has traveled up, down and across our great state interweaving her family's legacy with the Wabanaki Confederacy's tradition and every citizen's role in the same book,if not always the same page. Sarah Pletts, international dance/theatre artist, has written and produced a poetic documentary film, "THE PHOENIX RISES: A Personal Discovery of the Origins of the U.S. through H.W. Longfellow's Hiawatha." His epic poem "Song of Hiawatha" continues to inspire to this day. Why? "Because it changes our perspective on American history by showing how Native Americans contributed to the founding of the United States," explains Ms. Pletts. Ms. Pletts is a fourth generation Maine native (almost) who slipped over the border to be born in Boston. Ms. Pletts will perform "Amore a Terra" before the screening and the words of former Governor Baxter will be read by Laura Campbell at Ludcke Auditorium, UNE Westbrook College Campus. On Thursday from 12 to 3PM at Ludcke Auditorium (Westbrook College Campus) - the public has the opportunity to engage with a group of professionals discussing the practicalities of "Envisioning Our Future with Wisdom of the Ages." Building on ideas from Ms. Marlow's book, the panel presents a new perspective, a vibrant blueprint for living in harmony with our world. Included are two revered elders of Maine's Native Indigenous Wabanaki Confederacy. Ms. Joan Dana, is a spiritual elder of the Passamaquoddy, called Three Star Earth Woman. Through her bead, leather, quill and birch bark work, and jewelry and ash basket weaving, she understands the value of the gift of life, which is deeply precious and flows through all Creation. Joan Dana feels that all beings are formed from clay and she looks to the Creator to mold each of us into beautiful pottery. Her great grandfather Tomah Joseph made the birchbark canoe for President Theodore Roosevelt. Arnie Neptune, elder of the Penobscot and international peace keeper and his nephew, artist James Neptune, will also contribute. Michael Kellett from Concord, MA offers his visionary view of Public Land. Kellett has already proven in Michigan and Massachusetts what a profound effect a change in consciousness can have on our natural treasures.Neil Rolde, Chairman of Maine PBS will join in as well. Natalie Angela, magazine publisher, brings a deep understanding of quantum physics to our understanding of the nature of things. Laura Campbell contributes her talents as a singer/songwriter. She combines sound, healing and other non-traditional modalities for healing. Cynthia Simon is a Life Sciences adjunct professor who teaches experiential courses about living a harmonious life.
