A reoccuring theme was modifying shapes to represent tiny crewmates from Among Us. This video highlights them to give an overview where they appeared the most. Watch in highest resolution if possible.
This is not regular "content" for my channel but i thought it is interesting to see the dynamic of that event in a simple overview.
The video was rendered from a 6000x6000 source to 4k to represent the second phase on most monitors well enough but video compression of youtube will likely make it hard to make out individual objects.
It is likely underreporting the numbers because a high threshold was used and only amonglings with valid legs and backpacks in the same color are considered valid to limit false detections. Rotated and mirrored ones are detected though.
An opencv canny edgefilter was used to detect the shapes and several different templates in different rotations were used for detection on a 6000x6000 scaled contour image. This analysis took half a day on a 32 core epyc 7601 and created 100GB of data out of just 5GB of raw images...

This is a completely new setup with a very different sound from the other one. Still completely midi compatible but this time the drives are mounted solid and enable lines are only active when a note is playing.
To see the full rollercoaster of a build check out the build video: youtu.be/hjFn6ug535Y
It was intended for an upcoming show and because the old one would never survive shipment a more solid version had to be made quickly.
This is mostly a build log and not a step by step guide but i want to show you how it was made and what the ideas in a build like this are.
And finally you can close the box while the drives are playing! This feature was planned for years for the old setup but never done because i didn't want to drill into the case.

Music by Eino Toivanen, kongano.com - UnkpopDriving a tiny 1:10 scale direct drive force feedback steering wheel (Open FFBoard)Gigawipf2020-06-28 | While working on support for SinCos encoders i got the idea to test it with an old drone motor and made it into a tiny FFB steering wheel. It works exactly the same way as a normal sized one but accelerates much faster and is about 1/8 to 1/10 of the normal size (under 40mm).
Supporting sincos encoders is also a big step for the project and will allow a whole range of different encoders and servos to be used.
The force feedback feels extremely direct but with any prolonged use the motor gets very hot and its pretty hard to drive with it and it took a bit too many attempts to finish even this short race. All the effects are there and you can feel the curbs, wheel slips and everything else the game has to offer.

To make configuration much easier a GUI will be developed and the current status is shown at 7:17. This GUI is not final and might change a lot but i hope this gives you some ideas how the FFBoard could be configured. The TMC setup and error handling definetly has to be improved here.
The next TMC4671 motor driver will need a redesign of many parts because while the old version works it still has a few problems with reliability and ease of use due to the lack of an onboard buck converter and missing mosfet protections. The old boards are designed for development and testing of the chip.
The next version will feature the new chip and should be much easier and safer to use.

This is not a review, there are many reviews for the dps modules but most of them don't mention the official "control software" which needs a huge national instruments framework with dozen of services just to set a voltage... seriously.
So i wrote a little python library to make simple automated measurements and maybe someone has the time to even write a gui for these modules.

Factorio recently introduced speakers for the circuit network so naturally i had to check how i could generate simple and scalable circuits from midi files to import music directly into factorio via blueprints. Video is not sped up or otherwise edited, music runs at the internal factorio speed pretty good even with large circuits but there are some limits.
Features: Automatic blueprint generation directly from midi files. Limited Drumkit support Polyphony with dynamic speaker allocation Multiple notes at the same time are now combined in a single memory cell per channel and tick
Problems: -Limited note range, factorio only allows notes between F3 and B6 -Few instruments with fixed length samples, long and very short notes are not possible. -Standard instrument is piano because of the instrument limitations -Not all drumkit sounds are possible in factorio -The cicuit network runs at 60hz fixed to the framerate, slight timing errors can occur.
Following the GM1 standard the channel 10 ist interpreted as the drumkit channel and gets its own speaker pool.
Source and current version: github.com/Ultrawipf/midiTool Take it as it is, i mainly made it to test midi functions but it should work fine if you just want to make blueprints now. Will probably be refined later ;)

Almost silent at low notes but when you really push it every neighbor will hear it. The esc does regenerative braking so not all energy is lost during fast speed changes and you see the voltage spiking up while braking. Maybe i will add some bigger caps again to store more energy. The controller also supports pitch bends and handles overlapping notes.
Of course i will also make some full length music videos with the siren but don't expect anything complex from that pile of plastic.
All credits for the siren model go to the original designer. The last short song is lilium from elfenlied.

The receiver in combination with that flight controller sometimes behaves pretty strange for me. Sometimes the quad arms itself or telemetry updates only some values and not the battery voltage.
Batteries should be any 500-600mAh battery with enough power. Smaller ones won't give you enough current and the voltage will sag.

The floppy controller is now a real midi device and does not need a special pc program anymore. Every midi player can send notes :)
The chroma keying from midi trail was a bit off but should be completely synchronous as it sends the notes directly to my controller.
The ideas are still based on moppy but the controller now works standalone and works like any usb midi device. The current code is here: github.com/Ultrawipf/midifloppy
