#OFVIRTUE #ColdBlooded #ArisingEmpireMixWave x Mike Stringer Riff Contest | Brandon Burch #MixWaveSpiritboxBrandon Burch Music2024-03-24 | I ran across this guitar riff contest about a week before it was over, and so I decided to jump on the opportunity! I wrote this groove over the backing track provided for the contest at 110 BPM (there were 3 drum tracks at different tempos to choose from). It was fun and great to play the guitar for the channel again. :)
Recorded in Drop F# tuning. I used the transpose feature on a couple of the lower notes, which is automated in my DAW. That's why you see me play two different notes with the same 7th string. Pretty cool feature! The programmed bass is from Loki Bass 2. Extra pitch shifted guitars were copy and pasted and inserted beneath the main rhythm just to give a little more heaviness to the sound. I saw that trick from the man who mixed the record for Spiritbox on YouTube.
The arpeggiated synth in the "chorus" is from a plugin called Odin2. Also, I used the "red" channel on the amp with lots of reverb for the background ambience (based heavily on a preset I found already in the plugin).
Mixed and mastered with iZotope and Waves plugins.

Because I wanted to sound as diverse as possible, I used varying techniques and "characters" to get a different sound for each "person". This method allowed for the creation of a differing soundscape than had I just simply sang different notes. My goal is to layer this choir underneath my "real singing voice" to inject energy into the chorus.
How to Transform Your Voice Into a Virtual Choir: 1. Record as many tracks as possible 2. Sing harmonies (ideally four-part) 3. Vary your vocal tonality and dialect 4. Allow for some imperfections
This tutorial will cover more but if you have any questions please let me know. Watch / listen to the whole song linked below.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I want to list some notable things in this project. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1.) For this 2022 version, a choir was recorded for the choruses! A choir of 24 individually recorded tracks of me! (2.) I did my best to stay as true to the original words in Psalm 47 as possible, while making tweaks to make it work in English. (3.) The last spoken part is taken from a song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32:3. (4.) There are 12 recorded tracks of hand claps, representing the 12 tribes of Israel. It started with my noticing 10 claps were starting to sound huge, so I went all the way to 12 for fun. Adding different effects made it sound even larger. (5.) When I almost say, instead of sing, "He overcomes the nations under Israel," that was inspired by Michael W. Smith's style of singing he does at times. (6.) This is a combination of basically every style I've ever done. (7.) The orchestration style is reminiscent of my Falling Winter Christmas album. brandonburch.bandcamp.com/album/falling-winter-refrosted (8.) Did you catch the back and forth time signature changes from the normal 6/4 to 5/4? (9.) Most piano parts were played by me in pieces using overdubbing techniques - only a few fast parts were programmed. The orchestra and piano parts were from Philharmonik software programmed with my MIDI keyboard. (10.) The rhythm guitars were recorded with my Ibanez RG8 I used to own.My First Day of Actual Saxophone Practice as a Beginner | Sax Vlog: 02Brandon Burch Music2023-01-19 | Second vlog entry for my sax journey. Now it has been re-amped, remixed and remastered for a year-end 2022 release. I kept to the magic of the original while cleaning up the overall soundscape.
I re-amped the guitars, swapped out the drum kit, and took lots of reverb out which was in the original (my gosh lol). I carved out room for each instrument with EQ and clarified tracks and groups with compression and limiters. What we have now is a much clearer, upfront, and punchier mix which represents my mixing skills in 2022.

#MetalAquaristsUniteAnnisokay - Like a Parasite [clean] | Cinematic Guitar Cover by Brandon BurchBrandon Burch Music2021-05-14 | As in my last cover, I'm tuned to Drop F. The track's hook is so heavy! I love these songs on Annisokay's new album. On this cover, I added some fuzz distortion before my amp sim to get a bit more grit. I'm not sure what setup they recorded with, but it does sound closer to their tone. I try to match the artist tones as close as I can in my covers.
This is my favorite lighting setup I've done so far. The big light panel behind and above me is my rim (hair) light. Helps me pop from the background in this small space. Its twin panel is offset to my right and level with me to act as the key (main) light. The smaller light behind me and to my right is acting as a second backlight to shine on my shoulder. Formerly it was to my left or in front as a fill light - but no fill was used in this video. And finally my Godox M1 RGB light is (this time) below my desk behind me to splash me with a sinister red.

As in the my last couple of covers, I have been using my new RGB creative light for those different colors and effects. It's the GODOX M1. The flicker effect in the verses is the "fireplace" mode. And as used in my "365" cover, the solo section features the "music" mode. This light is amazing for what it is. You can pick any color of the rainbow as well, or even just use it as a secondary bi-color light.
Let me know if you have any questions about this production.

I had some technical issues at first. I will spare you the footage of my troubleshooting. Basically, when I first hooked up the monitor, it was mirroring my laptop. I changed it to "extend displays". Although it displayed 4K resolution, I learned online that with an old HDMI port like on my Alienware 14 laptop, I would be limited to 30 hz at 4K. Alternatively, I could switch to 1440p to achieve the 60 hz. (I think I prefer the lower res to get the smoother refresh rate.) Initially, upon changing the resolutions, it defaulted to 29 hz at 4K, and 59 hz at 1440p. The 29 hz is really weird and feels laggy - which is what I was experiencing when you saw me watching that video at first.
When I build my new PC, I will be on much newer hardware, and using a DisplayPort instead of an HDMI, so I will be getting the intended 4K resolution at the desired 60 hz refresh rate. :)Architects - Black Lungs [clean] | Guitar Cover by Brandon BurchBrandon Burch Music2020-12-30 | The main riff is fun to play and inspired me to make a comeback with a playthrough!

Well, turns out I want an amp again for live settings, so I decided to buy back the smaller version of the VYPYR.
I don't trust my old laptop for live settings, plus an amp is easier, so this VIP2 combo amp should suit me perfectly.

Anytime I ever needed to tote my guitar, I used a gigbag. Since my only gigbag is being borrowed currently, and with my needing a case for playing at church again, I decided now would be the time to get a case. I'm so glad I did and wish I already had. I love this case! It's perfect!

For the first time, I'm announcing my new merch store - featuring items just launched: I'm on a guitar journey. I'm excited! The mug is my new daily coffee container, and I wear the shirt when I can. These remind me of my journey I've been on since late 2008 and give overall good vibes.

Music is how I say things - and there was so much I wanted to tell him. This song expresses what I wanted to say, and also mirrors his own life - on earth and the ushering into his new home in Heaven. Grandpa knew the Lord as his Savior, and I'm so thankful that I can rest in the fact that he is no longer in pain and that I will see him again one day. I tagged onto the ending "Victory in Jesus". I hope you enjoy.
~ Sending positive vibes out to all those who have ever lost a loved one ~Canon Rock 2020 - Classic Rock Edition (cover by Brandon Burch)Brandon Burch Music2020-04-30 | I started guitar on October 29, 2008. My uncle showed me a YouTube video of this guy by the name of "funtwo" playing a rock version of Pachelbel's Canon. My obsession with the video inspired me to pick up the guitar. I wanted to play like that!
Just for nostalgia I decided to cover this great piece again in 2020. My goal wasn't to change anything, but upload a better cover than in 2011.

I really enjoyed the process as the melodies just came to me.
This is the live version recorded for YouTube. If you would like to purchase / listen to the studio version, you can by visiting my bandcamp or searching your favorite digital music store / streaming service.
It's called "Nostalgic Adventure" because the main chord progression the song starts with is what I wrote back when I started what became my band "Analyzed Within". (We also have a bandcamp by the way.)
There's so much more I could do with this track to spice it up, but at a certain point, you have to release it to the world. :) This may be the shortest time I've spent on a track - it took less than a month - quite an accomplishment. I usually sit on tracks way too long. I have a few of those...

As you can hear, I added some harmonies, and I hope the Kiesel team won't mind the small mod of the contest track (where it drops out and explodes). The idea came to mind when I was writing, so I put the creative ideas I had to the track, and finally remastered everything in iZotope Ozone 5.

Changes There's so many changes of life How could I cope?
Faces There's so many faces in life Whom can I trust?
My soul is aching Feels like I'm going to break You left me stranded here Who will tell me that they're near?
--- I'm not ok I'm broken inside And I need you near I need you with me
Betrayed and alone Scared and angry I struggle to breathe My lungs collapsing
I don't understand Why did this happen To my family Why won't you answer?
But God You are real You're still in control And I know You see A greater picture ---
Father Will You lead me through the dark? You are the Light
Shepherd I know You've never left my side You are my hope
My soul is aching Feels like I'm going to break Don't leave me stranded here Just remind me that You're near
--- I'll be ok I'm healing inside And I know you're near I know you're with me
I'm never alone Peace you give me You breathe into me My soul reviving
I don't understand Why storms of this life Seem to swallow me Don't have the answer
But God You are real You're still in control I know You see A greater picture ---
(Guitar solo)
--- I'm more than ok I'm healing inside And I feel you near I feel you near me
I'm never alone Peace you give me You breathe into me My soul reviving
This world that I'm in Is fractured by sin So you put me here To be a witness
'Cause Jesus is real He is the answer Look up now and see The Greater Picture
The greater picture
