Itchyworms Medley (Jonathan Mendoza) | UP Concert Chorus

UP Concert Chorus 2021-08-15 | Our arranger, Jonathan Mendoza starts the story with the song, "Akin Ka Na Lang" where Jp tries to comfort Angelika from her heartbreak, going through a series of back-and-forths, trying his best to make her realize that he could be the one for her. All goes downhill as soon as we hear the melody of "Di Na Muli", losing his motivation, but still striving for her attention. We soon find ourselves at the end of the medley, him still hopeful, that even just a hug from her would be enough.

UP Concert Chorus 2021-07-18 | The pandemic has brought about various challenges— from facing COVID, juggling academics, managing finances, and just finding ways to keep our heads floating above the water.

“Wag Ka Nang Umiyak” was written by Ebe Dancel and arranged by Robert Delgado. Like in the song, (?) we have continued to hold on to each other. As long as we have loved ones to lean on, we will soon overcome this trying time. Though performing or even just singing has been limited to us, we still would want to continue to “perform” for you all somehow. We offer this song to those who are still grieving, to those who have been struggling, and to those who have been risking their lives just to see this pandemic come to an end. We hope that Wag Ka Nang Umiyak will serve as a warm hug and an encouragement to everyone.

"Sama-Sama Tayo'y Makapaniig" was written by our Artistic Director & Conductor, Prof. Janet S. Aracama having Korus in mind: Korus as a community and a family.

The song is a message of longing to be with loved ones during a time where 3 ft. of distance or more keeps us apart but furthermore, this song wishes to give hope to everyone— we will overcome this situation together. UP Concert Chorus 2020-12-19 | This Christmas season, we are forced to be left to our own devices to try to mimic the similar feeling of physically being with loved ones when it’s supposed to be a time for family and celebration. This song was specially written for the UP Concert Chorus (UPCC) by alumni, Augusto Espino. “Tunay Na Pasko” talks about how Christmas has become commercialized to the point where we lose the true reason for the season. This song and this EP by the UPCC wishes that this year’s version of Christmas will not be a hindrance to our celebration of the true meaning of Christmas.

It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. You see, Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world.

UP Concert Chorus 2020-12-19 | “Show Yourself” is a song from the 2019 Disney 3D animated musical fantasy film, Frozen II. The story follows Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven embarking on an excursion past their Kingdom of Arendelle to find the inception of Elsa's supernatural powers and spare their realm after a mysterious voice shouts to Elsa. Elsa journeys through the Dark Sea to Ahtohallan, discovering the concealed past of what occurred in the Enchanted Forest, and finally, the origin of her powers. The song, “Show Yourself”, was Elsa ultimately unfolding before herself, finally seeing her truest form.

While our current circumstance forces us to be isolated from our loved ones, we must still reach out and not waste any time; instead, we show our love to them despite the difficulty.

UP Concert Chorus 2020-11-30 | Inihahandog ng U.P. Concert Chorus ang kauna-unahang birtwal na pagtatanghal ng “Lupang Hinirang,” musika ni Julian Felipe, areglo ni Lucio San Pedro, at inilapat sa tono na “F” ni Prof. Jai Sabas-Aracama, UPCC Conductor.

In view of the requirements provided by law as to how “Lupang Hinirang” should be properly sung under pain of penalty, the U.P. Concert Chorus took the initiative to come up with this legally correct version of our National Anthem.

Through this video, the UPCC encourages everyone to sing the National Anthem in the correct tempo and correct key as required by law.

First Burn (From the Musical Hamilton) | UP Concert Chorus

UP Concert Chorus 2020-09-28 | Led by Prof. Jai Aracama, the women of UP Concert Chorus sing out the #Hamilton outtake “First Burn,” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and produced by Alex Lacamoire and Mike Elizondo. Through this, we aim to raise awareness of the pressing issues of domestic violence, gender-based violence, and violence against women and children. We stand with survivors in amplifying their voices, and we call on our fellow women to be pillars of support.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a halt when quarantines sent the vast majority of populations home in fear of catching the virus. However, strict lockdowns triggered a new wave of abuse at home, worsened by poverty and prejudice from families, spouses, and loved ones who promised them safety and security but pushed them into silence instead. Today marks the first death anniversary of Luz Escalante-Sabas, the mother of our conductor and pioneer of the Zero Waste Management movement in the Philippines.

Luz Sabas served as an inspiration for Musikalikasan, the 24th International Tour of the UP Concert Chorus, which incorporated a repertoire that sends a message of awareness, appreciation, and care for the environment.

She also wrote the words of a song in the Musikalikasan repertoire, “Zero Waste Ating Pag-asa”, which was then arranged by our conductor, Janet Sabas-Aracama. The song promotes zero waste as the answer and hope for the preservation of the environment.

To commemorate the death of Luz Sabas, here is our performance of the song “Zero Waste Ating Pag-asa” in Giessen, Hesse, Germany.

At the onset of this year, from January 11 to January 16, we visited the beautiful town of Bontoc in Southern Leyte to share our advocacy for the environment through Musikalikasan. It was a short, but worthwhile stay for each us as we were able to engage in meaningful exchange with the locals and experience the beauty of this island.

We will be eternally grateful for the love and support the Bontocanons have poured for all of us! May God bless each of you. ‘Til we meet again!

UPCC Ceciliada - Marcin Wawruk (2017)

UP Concert Chorus 2017-08-26 | Ceciliada
— a composition dedicated to the patron saint of musicians, St. Cecilia. This composition was first performed by ProForma, a choral group led by the composer of the song and choirmaster, Marcin Wawruk. UPCC made friends with Wawruk and ProForma in 2016 when UPCC came to Ecuador to participate in choir festivals.
This 2017, Ceciliada became part of UPCC's European tour repertoire. This song also became one of the favorite songs in the repertoire, because of its breezy arrangement and catchy melody.
