TRICOPTER LR - Long Range FPV, 1h+ Flight time, Foldable multirotor - Build Video. Efficient, nimble, transportable and with long flight time, those were the goals when designing this copter. The low drag and long flight time make this copter very well suited for long range explorative flying.There are few things more exhilarating than flying high and far. Navigating by landmarks, flying above the clouds at sunset, diving down mountains and exploring the surroundings is the name of the game. The thrill of knowing it’s only your own navigation skills that will get your copter back is very addictive, not to mention the incredible views you get to experience.The Tricopter LR ticks all the boxes when it comes to this type of flying. The frame is lightweight, allowing for more battery capacity to be carried at the same final weight. It also swings up to 8″ propellers, which give close to double the prop area compared to a 5″ quad and almost the same disk area as 7″ quad! With only 3 arms, less lift is wasted, due to less air-blocking arm area. The LR also uses narrower (but thicker) arms to reduce that drag even more, without sacrificing stiffness.QUIET!Not a fan of the screaming 5″ quads? The tricopter LR is very quiet compared to smaller crafts. The larger, slower spinning propellers generate a lot less noise. They are also more efficient, generating the same amount of lift at a lower RPM. Instead of that 5″ high pitched screaming, which draws attention and disturb others, the LR makes a low tone “wosh” sound that doesn’t carry far and is much less annoying to be around.LightweightThanks to the slimmed down design, the tricopter LR frame only weighs 112 grams. That is almost half of the already lightweight Tricopter V4! Less weight means more battery carrying capacity, which means longer flight times!The kit includes a tilt mechanism made from fiberglass reinforced black Nylon which was forged in the fires of Mt. Doom (ok, maybe not), making it almost indestructible. It’s the same plastic used by high-end propeller manufacturers! No, you have to fly this the way it wants to be flown. It is not easy and it will take some getting used to. Tuning is tricky, fiddly and might vary greatly depending on the electronics used (Pre-tuned starting PID’s available for the recommended electronics kit.). You can get yourself into weird situations very quickly and it currently doesn’t like flying backwards.What it does like is forward flight (both slow and flat out), lazy turns and hovering (as long as it’s not drifting backwards). You can do tricks as well, but be ready for some fun recovery manoeuvres. It is a very different flying experience compared to most other crafts.Building the RCExplorer Bicopter is also a bit of a challenge. Designed to be as cool looking as possible lead to some awkward spaces. The trip was truly amazing. The guys from UADR (Team Ukraine) were the best hosts you could wish for.We got to go in to the exclusion zone in Chernobyl and visit the ghost town Pripyat that was evacuated during the nuclear melt down.We had permission to fly wherever we wanted within the town and we all got great footage. It was amazing to explore this place and drink in the history and scale of this disaster.The UADR also hooked us up with a once in a life time opportunity. To fly around the Antonov 225 and AN 22! The worlds largest jet airplane and the largest propeller aircraft in the world!Being an airplane nerd this really was crazy. Why the heck would they allow us to fly around this uniq aircrafts? There is literally only 1 in existence! Well it's built like a tank for sure. They even allowed us to climb on top of of both the 225 and AN 22! And I don't mean like be careful only step here one at a time thing. Noooo they let everyone that felt like being up there be there at the same time! Probably had 30 people walking around on the top of that plane at one time. Mind blowing.Easily the best trip I've ever been on!When I got back home it turns out that I lost all footage from inside Pripyat :(. LEGO PORSCHE -VS- 120KM/H ROCKET SLED (Recreating the Mythbusters vanishing car episode) David Windestal 2017-10-26 | Henrik, David and Sylvia try to recreate the epic Mythbusters episodes “Compact compact” where Adam and Jamie tries to make a car disappear between two trucks going at highway speed. That doesn’t work so they try to recreate the results by accelerating a steel plate to the speed of sound on a rocket sled. This results in one of the best slowmotions of all time.We really want to recreate this by using our own small scale rocket sled and a Lego Technic Porsche 911 gt3. UV art at night - with fire! and explosions! - Rocket Knife (Darwin award nomination?) David Windestal 2017-10-14 | Johanna, Henrik, David and Sylvia got a taste for making rocket art. This time it’s at night, and with fire added to the mix! What can possibly go wrong?In a previous episode we tried making some art splitting spray cans, using normal colors. This time we step it up with fluorescent UV reactive colors. But wait there is more! We had the brilliant idea to ignite the paint fumes, which resulted in a bit more fire than anticipated.
