Från början var tanken att hela sträckan till Kalmar skulle finnas med, men en kombination av dåligt väder och ett kamerabatteri som tog slut fortare än planerat gjorde att resan blev kortare. Jag lade inte upp filmen från början, eftersom jag tyckte kvaliteten var för dålig, men jag har fått förfrågningar om att ändå publicera "dåligt" material. Det kan ju hända att någon annan gillar det. :) Det är möjligt att filmen textas i framtiden, men just nu har jag inte tid. Filmed in September of 2017. I had planned to film all the way to Kalmar, but the journey was shortened due to a combination of bad weather and a camera battery that ran out faster than expected. I did not upload the movie when it was first finished, as I thought the quality was too low, but I have received requests to upload "bad" material anyway. It might happen that someone else likes it. :) It's possible that the movie gets subtitles in the future, but I haven't got the time at the moment. Swedish and Danish railroad in 360° Jan Kivisaar 2016-05-04 | Follow me on a workday as a train driver in Sweden and Denmark, captured in 360 degrees with a Ricoh Theta S.You get to experience how it feels to stand on the platform, on the floor, in an escalator – and, finally, to sit in the cabin while leaving Copenhagen main station.About the video quality: The Theta S is capable of capturing video in 1080p. That usually ensures high quality in normal videos. But when capturing in 360 degrees, the resolution should be higher in order to maintain the quality. I don't even know if 4K would be enough... And, to make things worse, YouTube (for some peculiar reason) zooms into the picture and doesn't allow the user to zoom out. That makes the video quality suffer even more.See this as part of an ongoing experiment, where I try to make the best of the device. Train Drivers View 4K: Kattarp-Åstorp-Ängelholm Jan Kivisaar 2014-09-18 | (English version below)Torsdagen den 11 september 2014 hade ett godståg kört mot rött och förstört en växel i Kattarp. Mitt tåg, som skulle gå från Helsingborg till Ängelholm, fick omledas via Åstorp – en sträcka som sällan används numera.Själv passåkte jag och satt längst bak i tåget, så jag passade på att filma sträckan med min nya 4K-kamera. Inte en vanlig utsikt för en lokförare, men det var det bästa jag kunde göra. ;)On Thursday, September 11th 2014, a freight train passed a red signal without permission in Kattarp and wrecked a railroad switch. My train, going from Helsingborg to Ängelholm, had to be diverted via Åstorp – a railroad stretch seldom used nowadays.I was waiting to take over later on and was sitting in the back of the train, so I decided to film the stretch with my new 4K camera. GH4 4K UHD test: Gothenburg and Halmstad central stations Jan Kivisaar 2014-09-17 | A test of my Panasonic GH4, capable of 4K filming.I used it (handheld and no image stabilization, so sorry for the shaking!) during my stops in Gothenburg and Halmstad central stations in September, 2014. Audio from the internal microphone. Somewhat graded in Colorista II and FilmConvert.Personally, I think it's a bit too early to migrate to 4K, since neither I nor that many other people own a TV capable of showing the full resolution. On the other hand, if the resulting film is to be in full HD, it's great for cropping/panning in the image and giving more detail. Plus it's "future proof", since 4K is eventually coming broadly someday...The GH4 is very limited compared to a "real" video camera, especially without the monster DMW-YAGHE connector box, and without an adapter I can't use any of my Canon lenses with it. Still, I can't help but be impressed with how detailed a 4K image really is compared with a full HD one.It might be that all my future railroad videos will be shot in 4K (or 4K UHD, if we want to be picky). FPV test: Hbgb rail yard from above Jan Kivisaar 2014-06-27 | Testing my DJI Phantom 2 with a GoPro 3, filming part of the rail yard of Helsingborg, Sweden. The quadrocopter is equipped with an FPV system (first person view), allowing me to see on the ground what the camera is filming.I didn't manage to include the entire rail yard, due to the video signal starting to break up (I was standing behind a building, that effectively blocked the signal), so I had to turn back.In the end there's an Öresundståg going towards Copenhagen.The quadrocopter itself was quite stable in the air, despite the gusts of wind coming in at times. Test of Magic Lantern firmware Jan Kivisaar 2014-02-14 | This is a test of the Magic Lantern unofficial firmware for the Canon 5D Mark III camera.ML enables more control over the camera, essentially giving the user RAW footage, custom cropping and other functions.The firmware is not that stable and the resulting files take up enormous space, so it's not for everyday work/filming. But it's nice to see how well the camera *could* be doing, if Canon had not "dumbed" it down.Be careful if you use it: Your camera could end up a brick.My workflow:1) Install ML on camera.2) Record movie to camera (with 2.35:1 crop in my case).3) Transfer files to computer (iMac in my case).4) Use raw2dng app to convert raw files to individual dng files (and a generic mov file).5) Import dng files to After Effects and change settings in Camera raw until the picture looks good.6) Export from AE to lossless mov files.7) Import both mov files to Premiere Pro and put them on separate layers for comparison.8) Export to new mov file and upload that to YouTube.As I stated in step 4 above, the raw2dng app creates both dng files *and* a generic mov file. This latter file resembles what it would normally look when filming to the camera's built-in H.264 compressed mov file, so I used that as a comparison.You might notice that the movie files, although put over each other, doesn't always "fit". That's because I can compensate for the lens distortion when importing the dng files into AE.NB: I used Magic Bullet Looks in Premiere Pro to create a different kind of picture style on the ML files.Help us caption & translate this video!http://amara.org/v/Fa7l

Breaking the ice Jan Kivisaar 2012-12-07 | This is me, chopping ice off my train one evening in the city of Halmstad, on my way down from Gothenburg. The snow hits the front, melts on the window (due to the window heating), and then freezes to ice when it gets further down.You can't hit too hard, in case you damage the train. The ice and snow don't impair the train's functions, but will make it impossible to connect to another train -- so it must go, sooner or later.Notice the amount of liquid water coming from behind the ice...---Här hackar jag bort is från mitt tåg i Halmstad, på väg söderut från Göteborg.
