Travis M. 2017-08-21 | Infectiously catchy 90's pop-punk from Vermont. Huffy has long been a favorite of mine, and I'm surprised I hadn't uploaded this stuff long before now. Bummer that they weren't around for very long (94?-97), but it seems the sun always sets far too soon on bands like this. "No High Five" was actually released the year after their breakup, and appears to still be available from Me Too! Records: http://www.metoorecords.com

This would be their discography, except for two songs from a 1994 split 7" with Six Cents And Natalie, which I don't (but should) own.

Travis M. 2017-06-27 | This was the ending of what most call the "second wave", before fashion took precedence over art; and it was forever linked to some of the most shallow and awful music ever made.

I didn't notice until it was finished, but this is basically an "America vs. Germany" comp.. haha, but it serves it's greater purpose; showcasing some lesser-known bands from that era. I've stated before that I've always hated the word "emo", and I do. But always for the sake of a ridiculous genre argument (inevitable anyway), I still use it. Anyway, I realize some of the songs do not match up to the particular release in the photo, it was a last minute change and I was just too lazy to drag all those cd's out again. Most of these are imports and/or are out of print, but with five minutes of Googling, it's fairly easy to find copies or digitally via Bandcamp etc..

Dork Astronaut were around for about five years, and claimed members from late 80's/early 90's alt-rock bands: From Outer Space, and The Rough Situation; and also the long-running band, Loretta. Musically, well, Um. Two parts Pavement and Lemonheads, one part Americana (hence the Byrds/Gram Parsons cover) ala Volebeats and The Vulgar Boatmen, A hint of 80's R.E.M., and bit of 90's emo... and, there you have it. I wish they had put out more than just one record, because this is amazing. Pale - Swear Jar (1994) Full Album

Travis M. 2017-05-21 | One of my favorite bands from Germany. Most people are aware of these guys through their albums on Defiance Records, but Pale had two more albums and one EP released on the tiny label Soda Records prior to the more widely available "Another Smart Move" in 1999. Swear Jar is their first full-length, which took the tracks from their debut "Krusty Tag" EP and polished them up considerably. The band underwent some minor stylistic shifts over the years, beginning with more straight alternative rock, with some punk and emo elements that they would later evolve with. Just hear for yourself. Fans of Goo Goo Dolls, Buffalo Tom, and Doughboys will dig this for sure.

These guys are great, as was their first album "Ou Est Le Magnetophone?" although it was a bit of a departure from this EP (vocalist change, new musical direction). But It's worth a listen too. Haven't really heard their last record "Partypeople", so I can't comment in that one. This EP was released in 2000 on Kitchen Revolution Records. Enjoy! Find it, buy it.

MissioNaries - Superficial Self-Amusement (1995) Full Album

Travis M. 2016-12-01 | Mid-90's alt-rock band from Miami, Oklahoma. I bought this CD probably 15 years ago? from the used bin, based on the cover art alone. Came out a winner on that $3 purchase. Just figured them a really good, but a tragically one-off band that whack-a-moled on the scene. You can Google the band and album and title, but you won't get very far; the Discogs page, and an old review where it seems the reviewer can't decide whether they like them or not. But they keep comparing them to the band Live. Ehhhh. The MissioNaries sound straight-up Minneapolis to me: The Replacements, Soul Asylum, Bob Mould, with a dose of Buffalo Tom and Gin Blossoms thrown in. This was recorded at the Legendary Red House Studios in Lawrence, KS by the even more Legendary Ed Rose from the mighty Kill Creek, I don't think the bands from that scene have any other ties to this band, just a cool piece of info. Anyway, released in 1995 on Outback records. Enjoy.

Marble - Spinning Around (1996) Full Album

Travis M. 2016-11-04 | Pop-punk band from Mankato, Minnesota. I first heard of these guys from their split with fellow Minnesotans, Porcelain Boys (another band you you should also very much check out). When I wound up moving up to the Twin Cities, I worked with a guy who was a huge Marble fan, and hooked me up with his spare copy of the "Spinning Around" Reissue ( different artwork and label: discogs.com/Marble-Spinning-Around/release/6980838 ) After my old roommate had a party, some giant butthole made off with that CD, and around a dozen others of lesser significance; and I've spent the decade since trying to find another one. Anyway, through all internetting, googlywebbing, etc.. I talked with Peter from Ben Grim/The Davis Baby:( facebook.com/The-Davis-Baby-197130937018359 ) and he told me he would be glad to send me his personal copy. Which is an original version on Taysteee Records. So unending thanks to him for helping me add it to my collection again after all these years. I realize the album is posted to YouTube via individual tracks, but this is a record that definitely needs to be heard beginning to end. True lost, mega rare 90's gem. FFO ALL/ Descendents, Porcelain Boys, Ben Grim, G-Whiz, Big Drill Car, Doughboys etc...

By the way, if any band members would like this removed, just say the word.

UPDATE: This is being Re-Released on August 9th by the fine folks at Waterslide Records in Japan, with some unreleased tracks as a bonus. Not sure if it will be released in the states, but I'm sure Boss Tuneage will have copies too. And possibly available directly from the band. Out of all the long lost 90's punk gems, this one is by far most deserving of a re-release.

Travis M. 2016-10-29 | Incredible late 90's emo from San Leandro, California. This was a co-release between Sun.Sea.Sky, and No Karma Recordings. Not a clue why they didn't stick around longer, but this album is definitely miles ahead of most in that genre. Awesome vocals, warm, textured guitar melodies, nice production, and I dig the artwork; inside and out. The bass player went on to play in San Geronimo; another band whose EP you can find on my channel. Amp 176 / Angels In The Architecture - Split EP (1999) Full

Amp 176 were from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and AITA were from Buffalo, New York. The former reminds me of two bands who also contributed to a split record together: The Casket Lottery and Small Brown Bike. The latter, a bit more subdued and melodic; more along the lines of Christie Front Drive, Hankshaw, The Shyness Clinic etc.. This was released in 1999 on 1% Records, and for whatever reason, is much harder to find than most stuff on that label. If you do spot it, it's usually $100 bucks or something insane. I placed the start time of the AITA tracks at the beginning of track #6. Anyway, here it is. Enjoy.

Call It In The Air - Just A Morning Thought (1998) Full Album

Travis M. 2016-09-12 | Yes, I can only assume they named the band after the song. Call It In The Air was an Indie/emo band from Michigan, possibly one of the best 90's emo bands you've never heard. If i'm ranking them, this one is up there for me... Amazing record. FFO: Benton Falls, Christie Front Drive, Angels In The Architecture etc.. To my knowledge, their discography consisted of only one album, and a split with Florida's The Maccabees (members of the mighty Pohgoh) and then faded away. Released on the tiny Florida hardcore label Outback Records near the end of it's existence, I'm guessing it didn't take long for this to go out of print. Shame. This is 110% deserving of a cd/vinyl re-release, someone get on the phone with someone in the know. Make it happen. But, for now....
