This was the first of many Experimental sessions we did together from 1997-2000. I'm particularly fond of this one as it was so spur of the moment after getting stoned listening to Skullflower and Total all night and being inspired by tracks like youtu.be/ojLLesU6kKk We turned up at the studio as it was closing hoping to do an overnight session and thankfully Nathan let us in for FREE as he owed me a favour, loaned us any gear we needed (including his gorgeous SG guitar) and basically just said make sure the door is shut behind you when you leave which we did at 7am in the morning with our ears completely ringing and both stoned to fuck but satisfied and looking forward to listening to what we had recorded. No sections of the recording have ever been released. We each have a copy but no private copies made for friends. The first date, at London's Jazz Cafe, comprised of the following musicians: Tony Irving, Stefan Jaworzyn, Simon Fell, Lee Ranaldo, Thurston Moore, Alan Wilkinson (saxes), Lol Coxhill (soprano sax), Pat Thomas (piano). This collective performed an hour-long improvisation where members dropped in and out of the proceedings at various points, and some highly-charged performances were wrung out (I remember an Irving/Thomas duet as being a particular highlight).
