The Rooms are designed in a 1-2-1 configuration, and each room has a lie-flat bed and enclosed for your own privacy and a width of 38 inches (96.5cm) which is actually enough to sit 2 smaller people like Maiko and Wolfy so quite a bit of space for just someone like me. It’s got a 24 inch 4K touch screen which can be paired to your mobile device so you can control the screen from your phone. Also, there is a playstation-like remote control as well. Finally, the seat also offers some goodies in an amenity bag. Also, the center two seats can be used like a twin suite by lowering the center partition, and that’s where Maiko and Wolfy are seated. Wifi is also free as business class as they provided me with a voucher code to enter and connected to the World Wide Web of Life. When the seat is laid flat it’s about 183cm (72inches) in total length which is more than sufficient for me to lie down completely straight. A great 12 hour experience to fly with the family from Tokyo Japan to New York USA. Thank you to ANA for inviting us to fly with them.

This is a typical workday in Japan at a local SecondHand Shop known to Japanese as a Recycle Shop, called Lumber Room and it’s located in Tokyo’s Musashi Koyama area. I’m going take you inside of this small shop so I can show you how they run their business, earn an honest living and sell all kinds of goods from home appliances to cute vintage bento boxes…and their day starts in the morning. Japanese recycle 2nd hand shops may be bit different to its thrift store counterparts found in countries like the US which rely on donations for their inventory. Japanese recycle shops on the other hand typically purchase goods directly from customers or B to B antique markets so their quite selective of what is sold in their shop. Furthermore, before items are sold they are thoroughly inspected and maintained to ensure it’s still in excellent condition. Hence, you’ll often find high-quality goods here which local savvy shoppers take advantage of.

Access to Music in video: http://share.epidemicsound.com/zsbS8Day in the Life of a Japanese Construction WorkerPaolo fromTOKYO2024-09-13 | A Day in the Life of a Japanese Construction Worker in Tokyo Japan. This is typical work day in Japan for construction work who operates an Excavator construction vehicle. This is her work hours in Japan as well as her morning routine and after work schedule. Kaori operates various construction vehicles such as bulldozers and backhoes, but her speciality are Yumbos, AKA excavators the Japanese name dating back to the 1960’s when they were first produced and named as such. Ever since then, the name Yumbo has become synonymous with all excavators in Japan. And to operate these construction vehicles specialized licenses in Japan are required in addition to a large-sized vehicle driver’s license if driven on roads, in total Kaori had to test for 4 different licenses in order to do her job. It was only until Kaori’s late 20’s did she find interest in her career, working as an office cleaner, she noticed excavators from her office window dreaming how fun it would be to operate. One day on break, she ran into one of the vehicle operators, who she confessed her dream. The man laughingly told her to get a license. It was to his surprise when she came back some time later with that license in hand…shocked the man could do only one thing, help her get a job at his company.

This is what a $1800 Japanese Summer Vacation is like staying 1 Hour away from Tokyo in the Atami area. This is one of my go-to Japan summer getaway spots. This beautiful Japanese seaside gem is one of the easiest ways to get away from Tokyo’s hectic pace, and we’re doing this trip like a Typical Japanese Summer Vacation with fireworks, kaiseki style ryokan dining, heavenly seafood, a beach day and onsen hot springs, but of course in our own style. After you step off the train at Atami station, you’re greeted by a lively shopping street packed with restaurants, souvenir shops, and an assortment of street food hitters. And before going to our hotel, we decided to get some lunch at the shopping street. It gets rather busy on weekends so we recommend going on the weekdays to beat the crowds…but since we’re doing the Japanese summer Firework experience, it has to happen on the weekend…and it’s gonna happen with all these people. Our hotel for this trip is actually 2 stations away from Atami station and then a 10 minute walk from when you arrive which was perfect for us as we wanted to have an even quieter and calming Japan countryside experience.

So I recently traveled to the US with my family from Japan, and I was a bit stunned on how much things cost in America compared to Japan. Granted, I was somewhat expecting it given the the current exchange rate between the US dollar and Japanese yen at the time, but when I was actually there and saw the prices first hand, it really hit me. I still remember the days when everything in Japan was expensive and the US was cheap. So in the video, I wanted to share with all of you my own personal experience on how much thighs costs in the US vs Japan…I think you may be surprised as me. I should mention that I was staying in Los Angeles more specifically Venice Beach of all places so the prices may be higher or lower depending on the prices you’re referencing in the states. Definitely, let me know if it’s different for where you live or where you’ve visited. The cost of living in Japan vs USA just seemed quite different during this last visit. Let me know what you think.

Access to Music in video: http://share.epidemicsound.com/zsbS8Day in the Life of a Japanese Anime DirectorPaolo fromTOKYO2024-08-10 | A day in the life of a Japanese Anime Director in Tokyo Japan working in an Anime Production Studio. This is the typical work day in Japan of an anime director from morning his morning routine, daily work activities, all the way to nighttime. The Japanese work culture in an animation production studio is unique on it's own as it requires 200 people to make one episode alone. This average work day in Japan at an anime studio highlights the passion each worker has for their job and how they all work together to create a Japanese anime series. Shu, the anime director, is currently directing an anime called, MAYONAKA PUNCH, meaning Midnight Punch. Working directly for the P.A. works animation studio and the Kadokawa publishing company. On his 2nd series he worked at this studio for about 10 years now. So Shu works as a freelancer, which is rather typical in Japan’s anime industry as they make up almost 70% of its workers. For Shu, this means his work location changes depending on his client projects. Currently, his primary studio though is in Kodaira which allows him to bike to work, but this morning he needs to head directly to the voice recording studio first. Today, the team is recording one episode which is 24 minutes long with the Seiyu voice actors. It takes about 4-5 hours on average but if there’s an issue, it’ll take as long as it needs until they can get it right. That is how this anime director's day starts, but then will move onto more tasks throught the day.
Anime English Title: MAYONAKA PUNCH Synopsis: Meet Masaki, the now former member of a popular NewTuber group. After getting fired unexpectedly via a livestream, she joins forces with a partner with superhuman abilities. Together, they aim to create sensational content and hit 1 million subscribers.

This is behind the counter at a local Japanese Taiyaki Red Bean Paste Sweets Shop in Tokyo Japan. Taiyaki is a traditional Japanese sweet caked filled with glorious red bean paste and perfectly sandwiched between fish shaped like-pancakes. This Tokyo hidden gem is located just a 2 minute walk from Tokyo’s ebisu station. This shop is known for its thin crispy crust and its overwhelming amount of Tsubuan, a chunky style of red bean paste, all freshly prepared in-store. On a busy day, the shop sells about 1500 taiyaki. Taiyaki itself dates back to Japan’s meiji period, created mysteriously when a vendor decided one day to take a cylinder-shaped Japanese snack called imagawayaki and shape it in the form a tai fish, red sea bream, an auspicious fish Japan commonly used in celebrations. Back then, red sea bream was quite an expensive fish for regular people, so taiyaki became a popular lucky fortune alternative. In Japan, red bean paste used to be more of a savory food, when monks used it as a substitute for meat. The shift to a sweet, occurred during the Muromachi period as the tea ceremony became popular and Japanese indulged in sweet anko to pair with their tea.

Tokyo Japanese Food tour at Japan's newly created spot in Azabudai Hills. This is the full tour experience of this location just nestled between Kamiyacho and Roppongi-Itchome station, Azabudai Hills feels like a little modern garden city all of its own. At the heart lies a 6000㎡ central square, filled with trees and flowers, surrounded by 150 shops and restaurants, a full supermarket and even teamLab Borderless. Azabudai Hill's Market is far from your typical Japanese supermarket as it has 38 renowned shops uniquely gathered to offer more than just groceries. These Delicatessen style shops AKA Sozai, include Fried Heaven from Hiyama Wagyu, a butcher with over 100 years of history, wine pairing appetizers created by a 10 times Michelin starred restaurant, Daikanyama Ata, various healthy deli options from Yaoichi, a Kyoto vegetable shop, and even an all-natural Tsukemono Pickles shop with that grandma’s home cooking taste. On the 3rd floor of Tower Plaza, you’ll find nicer restaurants and bars. This place has Yakitori, Seafood Italian, Balcony by 6th, a Thai Bistro, and the list goes on. But today, I’m taking you to Yoroniku, an all private room Yakiniku restaurant that originated in Minami Aoyama so I get my meat on! Last but not least, ya’ll know I had to include this spot, the teamLab borderless museum..I’ve actually featured it before in previous videos, but that was when I it was in Odaiba. I gotta say, even after going a few times in the past, this dynamic museum never disappoints with its more 50 pieces of digital art.

I’m taking you to Kyoto Tower Sando hidden just below the base of the iconic Nidec Kyoto Tower and unknown to many, directly connected to Kyoto station through an underground passage. And at the time of filming this, it’s so surprising how little to no lines there are given that the food is so reasonably priced and rivals the taste of any shops you’d find at many of Kyoto’s traveler destinations, which is why this is has become one of my go-to spots after and before getting off the train with it’s traditional Japanese dishes and unique Kyoto specialities. Here’s the skinny, the first floor hosts souvenir shops, the second floor has a workshop type area and the basement B1 floor is the Food Hall….and where this Kyoto Food Adventure begins as I show you some of my top hitters

This is Japan work life in Tokyo as single person living in a 1K apartment and working at large Japanese company with a very Japanese work culture. Japanese employees even wear a SHASHO(社章), a company badge that’s issued to employees when they are hired. This must travel Japan food destination, known for its rich traditional flavors, hearty dishes, inspired by its deep street food culture, is truly a dynamic cuisine all of its own. In this Japan feed tour, I'll take you to some Yatai Food Stall hitters, throw down on a Hakata creamy pork ramen, demolish some scrumptious iron pan fried gyoza and much much more. You haven’t truly experienced Hakata if you’ve never been to Yatai, aka a mobile food stall. There are 105 stalls in the area and Fukuoka is the only city in Japan where it’s thriving as their local regulations permit and support this unique food culture. Hence, you don’t really see Yatai Food Carts in cities like Tokyo.

We start at their morning routine in Tokyo and follow them to their Japanese office, see their regular working hours in Japan, what they do in the course of their job to get more insight on Japanese work cultre and finally see what they do after work with their co-workers. Mai’s workplace, Taito Game Station, is one of Japan’s most popular Game Center chains. Her company Taito is famously known for some the world’s first arcade games such as Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble. Now with more than 160 game centers and other entertainment facilities all throughout Japan, the company continues to innovate and provide fun and exciting entertainment to all its customers. The Takadanobaba game center has almost every type of arcade game you could imagine, with a total of 326 machines. Interestingly, the numbers of game centers in Japan is down by 50% compared to the last 20 years, but the recent surge in anime popularity has helped revitalize the prize game sector, helping boost this industry back. Also, in Japanese game centers, it’s common to ask the staff for tips and advice on how to win, especially for the crane games. And apparently, if you are struggling a lot, they’ll even adjust the position of the prize so it’s easier to win.

This is Behind the Counter at Momoyaki Momo chan, a Japanese charcoal grilled chicken izakaya restaurant with a truly authentic local vibe, tucked away in one of the backstreets of the Sumiyoshi area in Hakata Fukuoka Japan. Aoki san started the shop 10 years ago after working separately as a restaurant manager. With over 28 years of experience in the food industry he decided to challenge himself, start his own business and follow his dreams. He strictly uses only Satsuma Chirandori chicken raised in Kagoshima. These chickens undergo an extensive 450 day free range rearing process which allows them to fully mature naturally and develop their uniquely rich flavor characteristic and exceptional plump texture. He uses a chicken oil called CHIYU in Japanese to grill the fire chicken and Ogatan, a charcoal relatively inexpensive but produces a strong flame which unlike more expensive charcoals produces his signature blacked chicken with a richer and smokier flavor.

We’re staying at Mitsui Garden Hotel Fukuoka Gion, located in the heart of Hakata , walking distance to Canal city and just a 15 min taxi to the airport. And since we’ve never been to Fukuoka as a family together, it was more than easy to accept this invite from the hotel. That said, the overall value you get for staying at this hotel is amazing as it offers an incredibly insane Japanese breakfast, luxury style onsen bath, steam sauna, and premium customer service. This ultra affordable hotel has a seafood restaurant, Uoden on the 1st floor, which is actually a popular spot for locals to go to as they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. What we loved the most is definitely their fresh fish section. This is not your standard Japanese breakfast buffet and definitely need to check it out for yourself. Also, Mitsui have hotels all throughout Japan, like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Sapporo, etc. so worth checking wherever you are staying in the country.

Umami Ocean is the follow-up to my original fiery and umami-packed Paolo fromTOKYO Premium Kaminari hot sauce, this newly crafted blend is a milder counterpart that artfully balances three varieties of chilis, shoyu, and yuzu, resulting in a singular umami experience that's as rich and deep as the ocean.
It’s was a true balancing act to craft the perfect blend which maintained the undeniable umami taste of my original Paolo fromTOKYO Hot Sauce but with a milder kick. What sets this hot sauce apart from my original, is that Umami Ocean makes use of 3 different locally grown chilis, red habanero chilis, green habanero chilis and their original Myoko chilis and then blended with their Premium 6-year aged Kanzuri, shoyu and this time we’ve added a hint of yuzu.

In Japan, rental services for a japanese girlfriend or japanese boyfriend have been around, but I recently noticed that you could rent a Japanese grandma for the the day and it got me interested. Apparently, you can ask her to act like she’s your grandma and do stuff together, help out with house chores, attend family events, or simply ask for life advice, basically anything within reason. So in this video, I share my experience with you renting a Japanese grandmother for a day and the first thing I asked her to do was make me a traditional Japanese bento which later we’ll be taking to the park later for hanami to enjoy the Cherry Blossoms.

These are amazing Japanese Food Inventions that are truly from the future. I am always surprised how efficient Japan is and the technology that they come up with to help make food preparation easier, faster and more convenient. Some of these Japan foods are so efficient that what used to take multiple steps to prepare, can be done in one easy step. Let me know which food item was your favorite.

Access to Music in video: http://share.epidemicsound.com/zsbS8Day in the Life of a Japanese Factory WorkerPaolo fromTOKYO2024-04-12 | A day in the Life as Japanese Egg Factory Worker in Japan. This is a typical day working in a Japanese factory from morning until night. The average factory worker in Japan works a set amount of hours ever day as you'll see. Also, in Japanese factories, it’s very common to have more part-time shift workers, than full-time workers. In this egg factory, 80% of the workers are part-time and 20% full-time. Kenta works at Yachiyo Poultry, a well-renowned egg factory in Japan with a proud 95 year history running it’s own farms. In Japan, TAMAGO aka eggs have a place in every meal which is why it’s no surprise that the country ranks as the 2nd highest consumer of eggs globally, each person consuming on average 339 eggs per year. Also, there is quite a lot Japanese work culture that can be seen in this video. For example, punctuality, is a deeply ingrained aspect of Japanese work culture, emphasizing the importance of being fully prepared and ready to work before the start time, rather than simply arriving at the start time. I hope you enjoy this day in a Japan factory focused on delivering the freshest eggs in Japan and can see why many Japanese can safely eat raw eggs in Japan.

This is Behind the Counter and deep into the Japanese kitchen of Takashimaya, a legendary Tokyo unagi spot tucked away in the streets of Nihonbashi. First opened more than 149 years ago in 1875, in Kagurazaka, this Japanese unagi eel speciality restaurant passed down it’s culinary techniques 5 generations to perfectly craft their succulently charcoal grilled mouth watering unagi dish dipped in their secret signature sauce which remains unchanged throughout the years. The shop uses a special Kyosui Unagi from the Shizuoka prefecture, raised in the underground water of its Southern alps known for it’s uniquely sweet aroma with five times more DHA & EPA when compared wild eels. Bred in limited quantities, it’s earned it’s name in Japan as the phantom eel. Although eel has been eaten for more than 5000 years, In Japan, the most common way to eat Unagi is by filleting it, skewering it and then grilling which gained popularity during the edo period. Interestingly in Tokyo, eels are cut from the back, while in western regions of Japan, are cut from the stomach. The Tokyo technique dating again back to Edo period, the area itself known as the city of samurais, viewed cutting the stomach as bad luck as they associated it with seppuku, an honorable ritualistic suicide by disembowelment.

I’m getting my Japanese Annual Health Check called Ningen Dock which got me wondering how Japan has the longest life expectancy in the world at 84 years old, only behind Hong Kong and Macau at 85 years. Interestingly, it wasn’t always the case as recently as the 1960’s where Japan had the shortest life expectancy out of the G7 countries. So as I get my Japan Health Check, I'll share some reasons why Japan was able to achieve a longer life expectancy over the years. But first, the Japanese Ningen Dock is Japan’s comprehensive health check system for early detection of disease broken down in 3 parts, early detection of cancer, detection of lifestyle related diseases and the confirmation of one’s health status. Ningen meaning person and dock, like a dockyard inspecting and repairing ships. In 1954, Japan established it’s first Ningen Dock day, and remember at that time, Japan had the shortest life expectancy of all the G7 countries, largely due to high mortality rates from cerebrovascular disease and stomach cancer. But over the last 60 years, Japan’s increased it’s medical level while also implementing a universal health insurance system to lower medical costs and developed a high standard of healthcare such requiring employers to pay for standard health examinations, Ippan Kenkou Shindan for their full-time employees or having more comprehensive paid examinations such as the Ningen Dock. All on top of promoting a traditional healthy diet leading to one of the longest average life expectancies in the world.

This is a Japanese Home Tour of a $400,000 house in Tokyo. This 60,000,000 JPY House tour is pre-renovation so it may look a bit rough. It's a 160 square meters, 44 year old, 4LDK house with 2 garages and a backyard sitting on 181 square meters of land. So in Japan, housing properties are evaluated based on the land value plus the building value. In Tokyo, the average land value is about 1.2M yen 8110 USD per square meter, while in this area, on the outskirts, it averages about 330,000 yen / 2230 USD per square meters, which would value this house’s land at around 400,000 dollars. But since this house was built in 1980, has been poorly maintained, left un-renovated with no one living here for 3 years, the house value in Japan is considered close to zero. Therefore, a total valuation of 400,000 USD. This Tokyo house is a 12 minute walk away from Komae train station, which has many shops and cool restaurants and of course a supermarket. Also, about a 20 mins train ride from Shinjuku station, this area has a down to earth relaxing vibe and my favorite 3 breweries in the area with one just across the street.

Access to Music in video: http://share.epidemicsound.com/zsbS8Day in the Life of a Japanese Elementary School w/ Only 8 StudentsPaolo fromTOKYO2024-03-08 | A day in life of a Japanese Elementary School with only 8 students and 11 teachers. This is a typical day for a Japanese family with 3 kids all in Japanese grade school. We start from early in the morning when they wake up and follow them through their elementary school morning routine, their daily school studies, school lunch meal, after school activities and finally coming home and having dinner with their family. The kids attend Kojin Shogakko, a typical Japanese public school but the main difference is that there are only 8 students at the school between grades 1-6. There are many interesting facets about the Japanes students daily life at school including their Japanese school lunchtime “Kyushoku” which isn’t just a break to fill stomachs, but it’s considered a form of food education. By consuming nutritious meals, students learn about healthy eating habits which helps carry over into their home life. What’s even better, is that cost on average 224 yen about $1.50 per meal, which means that even students coming from families with a tight budget are guaranteed at least 1 healthy meal each and every day. I hope you enjoy the typical day of these Japanese students.

This is behind the counter and deep into the kitchen of Paichi, a 90-year old Yoshoku Restaurant, meaning it's a Japanese influenced western cuisine restaurant. Hidden in a back alley, just a few steps from Asakusa's Kaminarimon main street. It’s made a name for it’s self for it’s rich and uniquely Japanese born beef stew served in a hot iron pot. The shop started out as a bar by the current 3rd generation owner's grandfather but later he converted to a Yoshoku restaurant in 1936 well before it became popular in Japan many years later, as a high-end cuisine for the upper-class and fueled by Japan’s economic boom, happening entertainment districts like Asakusa were flooded with these restaurants trying to cash in as dining here became a status symbol. Yoshoku, with roots in Japan going as far back as the Meiji period, evolved over time to suite the Japanese pallet and culture, taking western dishes, altering the tastes and arranging it with rice.
