More Strats too risky for the GTA V Speedrun FriendlyBaron 2019-10-07 | My recent strat-update video only covered whats actually being used of the recent discoveries for the GTAV Speedrun - some of them are too dangerous to use in the run. A "strat" is shorthand for strategy, like a specific route or action we take within the speedrun.Some of these strats are new, and some have been known for a long time, like the Shootout with Franklin in Paleto Score, but we haven't needed to push hard to try them yet. Now that the speedrun is getting more optimized (meaning that the times are getting closer and closer together as people max out the game), all the little strats really add up. 2 seconds here 3 seconds there seems small for a 6 hour run, but this video alone has almost a minute and a half of strats - it adds up.The first Risky strat video was really fun, and I see no exception with this one. Cool finds, some of which require some heads-up gameplay. I go into the "decision making" topic a bit during the Pulling Favours strat. Interesting GTAV Speedrun Strats (That arent actually faster) #1 FriendlyBaron 2019-09-23 | Everyone loves to discuss and talk about the cool strats that are used in Speedruns - But I also want to give some notice and document some of the slower strats in the GTAV Speedrun, ideas that members of the community had that looked good on paper, but ended up not being faster once practiced.These strats still give us more info about how the game works and often influence future ideas in the speedrun, so its important to keep track of these. As well, this now gives me a series for every type of strat - failed strats (this video), successful strats (Strat Update Series), and the Risky Strat Series for stuff that looks cool but works so un-often its not worth doing yet.Another professional strategy that should have been included in this video is just to "play better lol" but it didn't quite make the cut.Speedrunning often comes down to trusting the people who did runs before you - imagine someone starting Mario speedruns today, the game probably has over a decade of knowledge, and you basically just accept what people have found already and dive in. It's been the same for me in GTA V Speedruns - I mostly just trust that what was in the WR runs when I started was faster for a reason. GDQ Submission - GTAV Speedrun of Classic% in 6:14:31 FriendlyBaron 2019-09-16 | Getting accepted into Games Done Quick with Grand Theft Auto V would be a dream - half because it's unlikely, and half because it'd be awesome to attend the Superbowl of Speedrunning.Games Done Quick is a week-long marathon held twice a year that raises millions of dollars while attendees do speedruns 24/7. The runs are special in that they are explained in a way that they go into detail, but also are general enough that anyone with basic videogame knowledge can follow along - kind of like my Casual vs Speedrun in GTAV series, so basically that done live.This run was pretty good - 2.5 minutes off world record at the end. I was on world record pace for the first 4-5 hours, just the last few missions had some mistakes and bad luck, but its fine, there is a great chance I get world record back - Burhac and I both have huge potential to shave 2-3 minutes off of our current runs.GTA V has never been to GDQ - and probably won't be still. It's unlikely they will accept this game due to language, violence, or who knows what else. And that's okay - they've had war games and other GTAs before, but if they don't want GTAV, thats their choice. I would be mad at myself if I at least didn't try submitting a run, and I figured a few people might enjoy it even if its not an official run - and maybe making it public and the video doing well could help get it approved. We have the ability to mod the game to remove voicelines/graphics/scenes that GDQ may not want displayed and have offered to do as such to get the run accepted. As well, GDQ does often have long games (usually RPGs) but the length may be an issue as well.I'm aware the audio may desync a bit near the end of the video. I use a weird system for recording and it works mostly perfect... except after about 3-4 hours of streaming it starts to get off timing. I'm working on it but it uses network streams and just... is a mess. The Most Common Fails in GTAV Speedruns #1 FriendlyBaron 2019-09-10 | Casual vs Speedrun in GTAV didn't cover what often goes wrong in GTAV Speedruns, so I'm gonna make a few videos that show off some of the fails that commonly happen in the speedrun.A strat update video covering all the new stuff in the run is in the works as well. An Incomplete History of Strat Finding in GTAV Speedruns FriendlyBaron 2019-08-26 | This video takes a look at some of the first strats that were discovered for GTAV Speedruns back in 2013 and 2014, who found them and stories about how they were found, then takes a look at how strats were found/shared/worked on from 2015 to 2018. My last video was comparing the 2014 to 2019 speedrun with the 5 year gap, and this video will cover many of the early histories of the strats seen in that video. The comparison I made was only 15 minutes long, as many of the early routing in the GTAV Speedrun was somewhat set in place by the time the run I covered from Dekap in 2014 was done.Many guides for speedrunning don't cover all the strats. The guides I watched to learn GTAV Speedruns, the guides I watched to learn GTA:SA Speedruns, and the guides I googled for games like Fallout and Mario 64's Speedruns all shared one thing - they present the speedrun as the speedrun. I approached my Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV the same way - I presented the run as-is, as taking the time to list every single person who found every single strat would both triple the length of the guide, as well as be nearly impossible to actually fact-check as shown in this video. So videos like these are how I want to present who-found-what in GTAV Speedrun strat finding, along with my Strat Update series. It seems like the best way to document this info. I'm not much of a strat hunter myself - most ideas I get or people give me I pass onto Burhac or Reloe as of these days, so most of my opinions on this come from the runners I've interacted with - my desire is to just use the strats, and make videos documenting the cool stories, if any, of how they were found, the Reloe Hospital Warp being a prime example from this video.My statement of "the strat fades into the run and just becomes part of it" may not sit well with everyone but it really seems to ring true for most of the people I talked to (can see some of them below) who actual do strat finding, so I'm expressing what I see, not trying to present a fact or something.I used Dekap's footage for lots of the 2013/2014 strats when the footage otherwise didn't exist. It was just readily available and better visual quality than anyone else's at the time. Speedrun VS Speedrun in GTAV (2014 vs 2019) FriendlyBaron 2019-08-12 | This video compares a speedrun from 5 years ago with the ones being done today, mostly looking at the old strats that used to be done, or were different because of older game versions.Casual vs Speedrun in GTAV took a good look at how the run compares to a casual, and I've had lots of requests for comparing speedruns. Weird Mechanics in GTAV Guide - Mid-Drive (aka Double Clutching) FriendlyBaron 2019-08-05 | GTA V has a pretty weird physics engine, especially when it comes to driving mechanics. The Strats too dangerous for the GTA V Speedrun FriendlyBaron 2019-07-29 | Casual vs Speedrun in GTAV didn't cover ever single strat - some of them are too dangerous to use in the run. A "strat" is shorthand for strategy, like a specific route or action we take within the speedrun.Some of these strats are new, and some have been known for a long time, like the Shootout with Franklin in Paleto Score, but we haven't needed to push hard to try them yet. Now that the speedrun is getting more optimized (meaning that the times are getting closer and closer together as people max out the game), all the little strats really add up. 2 seconds here 3 seconds there seems small for a 6 hour run, but this video alone has almost a minute of strats - it adds up.Some of these strats like the ladder glitch came from viewers of my youtube or twitch. It's super awesome how we're saving time from the community, literally. Really enjoy trying stuff out, even when it means I'm jumping out of a blimp or flying into a house at 100mph during the speedrun.San Andreas Speedruns are a work in progress still, i wanna do Casual VS Speedrun just right for that game. Former GTA V Speedrun World Record - Classic% in 6:13:49 (Highlights) FriendlyBaron 2019-07-18 | I recently got a very big world record in the main GTAV Speedrunning Category, Classic%. This is a quick highlight video of the fails and successes from the run. This run was over 3 minutes ahead of the previous World Record, and 4 minutes ahead of my previous best run. It's super satisfying, as I've been on pace to get this GTA V Classic% world record for 3 weeks, but kept having runs die 4-5 hours into the 6 hour run mostly due to bad RNG (Random Number Generation, aka the luck of things happening randomly in games), and one time where I choked the run away. I expect to improve this record but it's a big push in the run and my own skills, coming just after I finished Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV so the timing is perfect. I can let this world record sit for at least awhile while I begin to learn the other big GTA Speedrun, San Andreas.This is a bonus video for my channel of just the highlights/big moments, I didn't want to publish the whole video publicly so I made this instead to celebrate :) I started speedrunning GTAV as my first speedrun ever 8 months ago (late November, 2018) and am kinda proud of myself for improving so quickly. The community is generally pretty awesome and my viewers encourage me alot. I am also officially doing YouTube and Twitch fulltime now, so this timing of getting the record again is just perfect.Classic% is the main category because its the most competitive. It's a long run but not 10+ hours like 100%, has the most runners, and is the most skill based - driving, shooting, movement. My shooting is only "good" but my driving makes up for it. Classic% has two main rules - one, no using taxis to fast travel around the map. That removes skill. Two, no mission skipping. If you fail a mission 3 times, you can skip to the next checkpoint in the mission. It's very boring to do that for the entire speedrun so we banned it. Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV - Strat Updates FriendlyBaron 2019-07-15 | There's been some updates to the GTAV Speedrun since I started Casual VS Speedrun, so here's a video that compares the old speedrun to the new strats. When I used to race in GTA Online, everyone was very secretive of their techniques, tricks and glitches. This is my first game I've done speedruns of, and I love how open everyone is. People are excited to share strats and improve on them together instead of hide them away for personal use. There was an explosion of new strats about 2/3rds through the Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV series, but most of them made it into the main videos. These are just a few stragglers that were from the early missions or found within the past month. There was a period of like 2 weeks where every day there were two or more strat updates, it was insane. Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV #16 - The Fiery Finale FriendlyBaron 2019-07-01 | After 16 episodes and over 6 hours of footage, Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV draws to a close with my favorite mission in the game, The Third Way (Deathwish), aka the final Boss of GTAV. I plan to make more "seasons" of Casual VS Speedrun, starting with San Andreas next, and eventually doing every 3D GTA probably. Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV #15 - Not-So Subtle Shortcuts FriendlyBaron 2019-06-24 | This episode makes GTAV feel like a kart racer - small driving shortcuts all over the place, and some big ones too, along with an awesome car dupe during the heist setups.Brakeboost/Curbboost Guide: youtube.com/watch?v=SgXOiuWQYl0Movie References video (Episode 2 will probably be my next video): youtube.com/watch?v=AwsezpFOk7gThen the next episode of Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV will be the final "main" one before we start doing bonus episodes about what strats have changed, and maybe doing a highlight comparison of Speedrun vs Speedierrun of like a 2014 run compared to a 2019 runSo, the softlock in Gauntlets wasn't fully explained because... it's really hard to explain, but I'll try here. During Gauntlets, if you haven't had the phone call between Davey and Micheal that occurs after The Wrap Up, then there is a high chance of it occurring. You also want to have a phone call between Simeon and Franklin happen, which means turning sleep mode off whenever possible. That Simeon call can happen basically as early as 1-2 hours into the game, though its common to not get it all the way until the start of Lamar Down.If you don't have either of those calls, the glitch works in that after you deliver a gauntlet, no call to Lester will be made by Franklin. If you continue to do the setup missions at this point, the game will softlock and the Big Score Heist itself will never spawn, and you cannot continue the game (at least, not soon, sometimes it can be fixed but takes 15+ minutes of switching characters a bunch). The glitch can be "prevented" after the first delivery, by switching to Micheal to have the call to Lester made by him instead, and that must be done after the 2nd and 3rd Gauntlet as well as the Stinger Van. This loses nearly 90 seconds in the run when done, so its very unfortunate to have a big timeloss like that at the end of the game. A few months ago it was happening every 1 out of 4 runs it seemed, but the community rallied together to figure out why (the early phonecalls) and now its mostly a thing of the past. Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV #14 - Tactical Jumping FriendlyBaron 2019-06-17 | The missions in this episode involve lots of jumping at very precise times, so much so that it almost feels like a mario speedrun.I like this series of missions, they are a tough for in a row with neat strategy, and The Wrap Up is probably one of my favorite to pull off in the speedrun... because its easier than it looks after lots of practice.This Rapid-Fire bug mentioned can be seen here: clips.twitch.tv/KawaiiTardyCheeseTooSpicySometimes an enemy in GTAV will unload their entire clip into you (usually they only shoot in bursts), and it can kill you quick without any real chance of fighting back, like the first death in this clip. Episode #14 of Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV will be about the... 3rd to last main series. We'll do a mega episode for #15 which will be the rest of the missions besides the endings, then #16 will be all the endings combined into one episode. Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV #13 - Just dont crash lol FriendlyBaron 2019-05-27 | Episode #13 of Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV is a guide about finishing 4 missions within GTA V very quickly. The main top tip is to not crash, as you may have gathered from the titleI love the music this episode. I know I said that last week but it's true this time too. I hope the music isn't too overpowering, or too fast paced the whole time, I think future episodes I will balance a few slower songs in.I like all these missions but thats because I just adore the driving mechanics in this game, but the shootout in Fresh Meat is pretty nice too. People always ask if Cleaning Out The Bureau is my least favorite mission, and deep down the answer is no, it's annoying but its not that bad, its fun to stream it even if it does suck. I dislike my voice but I always dislike that and I'm legit like reading guides for singers on how I can be better when recording these episodes, I feel like I'm making an audio book at this point but for gosh darn gta v speedruns.Hang Ten is a good mission, but Cheerios are better. Surveying The Score is a pretty lame mission, I'd rather have Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Frosted Flakes would work better than Bury The Hatchet. The climax point of the flying in Minor Turbulence is really fun in the speedrun, its the perfect amount of dangerous but consistent. Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV #9 - Flying Fast, Driving Faster FriendlyBaron 2019-04-29 | Episode #9 of casual vs speedrun in gta v - we go very fast in this one, and not in a plane or something either.This the official unofficial halfway point of the series, I think. Probably. Halfway until I have to learn a new game for Casual VS Speedrun, so thats scary. I will be making GTA V content still alongside new speedruns though. There will be 7 or 8 more episodes I think, though some may be much longer than the ~20 min range + a bonus episode showing the alternate endings to the game + a bonus episode showing all the new strats + a bonus episode i cant say yet.The driving in I fought the Law in the speedrun here is just so much fun but can be SO frustrating in runs. funnily enough the time i set here while recording is a community gold, and the first sub 9-minute fought the law (as far as i know), so thats pretty cool. Eye in the sky is a dozer in the chopper part, but the rest is fun, and i enjoy Mr Richards and Caida Libre too. Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV #8 - Blitz Play Players FriendlyBaron 2019-04-23 | Episode #8 of Casual VS Speedrun in GTA V - a nice return to action after the missions of last episode, reaching us to just about halfway in the game.These missions were tough to figure out how to portray, as the order seriously changes every speedrun. Easily the most challenging routing of the run for gta v since it changes often, which isn't super common in most speedruns as far as I'm aware. If anyone knows any other games that very much rely on knowledge to change the order, do let me know, I'm very curious.As of the posting of this video, I now hold the record for the GTA V Classic% Speedrun, hence why it took awhile to come out. Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV #7 - Technically Boring FriendlyBaron 2019-04-15 | Episode #7 of casual vs speedrun in gta v - There are lots of "technically" boring missions in this one, but the tricks that the speedrun call pull off make them more interesting than they ever were designed to be.I tried to fix all the issues with audio and video from last episode and im pretty happy with it. The pixelation was a bit fuzzier than i intended is all, i will render out a preview before committing to a fuzz method next time, though I can't think of anything i'll want to remove later in the run like that. Casual VS Speedrun in GTAV #6 - Air, Ground and Sea FriendlyBaron 2019-04-08 | Episode #6 of casual vs speedrun in gta v - this is the one with the blimp. if you don't know why thats special, you are in for a treat. This episode contains a bit of action in the air, ground, and sea, and my god the ocean is so boring in this game, boating is so lame in game compared to real life. I forgot to mention in the video but from this episode on, the speedrun is playing on the downgraded version of GTA V that we use, while the casual is playing on the latest patch. it doesn't cause any major changes here besides a few extra waves near the end of the Hood Safari Mission though.In other good news, I should be able to make future episodes of Casual vs Speedrun much quicker. I realized I had some weird recording settings (NVENC CQB) that was causing my recording bitrate to be at 130k when it only needed to be at 30k, so that was causing mega lag on my new PC (thanks again to rimash for helping hook me up with that). So it should mean more videos quicker in the future as I can edit and review quicker. In FriendlyBaron news, during the past week I also improved my PB in the Classic% speedrun and am still 2nd in GTA V, but only off WR by 4 minutes instead of 7 minutes, and I should be battling for WR within another month or two. The Arena War Update for GTA Online is kinda meh but this along with the RC Car (I'll make a video on that in a day or two hopefully) are quite fun - especially once we get it all on Fivem :) I added a little watermark over the map just in case anyone tries to yoink my video.I did manage to get the Lost Slamvan and Ruiner3 in this compilation too, the Hermes, Lurcher and Yosemite are some of the most meme cars if you need recommendations.
