I measured the UFO to be 7.6 arcseconds. It was around 7:24pm PST Feb 16, 2015. Using in-the-sky.org/satmap.php I could not figure out what satellite it would have been. I asked Phil Plait aka the BadAstronomer if he thought it was a satellite, he replied: "Seems big for that. Might be something terrestrial; balloon, or something like that. But I don’t know." Cloud Time-Lapse from Signal Hill, CA 9/4/13 Kenneth Brandon - Dark Sky Chaser 2013-09-05 | I saw the clouds from my window and headed out spur of the moment to see what I could capture. I'm a bit unhappy with the flicker. I believe it's from the aperture flicker. I should have unhooked the lens a bit so it would have stayed in the same place. Also I could have used LRTimeLapse to reduce it but I wanted to get it out fast. Another thing I should have done was used a strong ND filter so that I could have dragged the shutter to get rid of the airplanes. Death Valley Milky Way Time-Lapse Kenneth Brandon - Dark Sky Chaser 2013-02-22 | I headed out to Death Valley to take some Time-Lapse. Unfortunately I arrived as the sun was setting and had to scramble to set up. I'd like to go back and find a better spot for time-lapse. The goal for this trip was to try some panning and tracking time-lapse. I wanted to get a panning time-lapse that tracked the constellation Orion. Unfortunately that sequence didn't turn out very well because I messed up the settings on that one. (That's the very fast sequence at 0:33.) On the last sequence (0:35) I had my camera piggybacking my telescope while it was tracking the sky. This let me take longer than usual exposures without star trails. Orion Nebula - My First Stacked Image Kenneth Brandon - Dark Sky Chaser 2013-01-16 | In this video I show my first stacked image. Here's the final image on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/91171539@N08/8386241628First I show an image of the constellation Orion taken that same night. After zooming into the nebula I show the 35 30 second images taken from my camera through my telescope. I think the streaks going through the nebula are actually geostationary satellites! You can see that although my telescope tracks the nebula, It's on an alt az mount and the image rotates while it tracks. Because of this I'm limited to only 30 second exposures. I though I'd take the opportunity to learn something new. I wanted to experiment with larger resolutions. So this is a 4k sequence I created in After Effects. Then In Premier Pro I exported it to 2K. Geminid Meteor Shower Time-Lapse 2012 Kenneth Brandon - Dark Sky Chaser 2012-12-30 | For Licensing contact: kenneth@kennethbrandon.comI headed out to Big Sur to watch the Geminid Meteor shower of 2012!I experimented with two things for this video. Persistent Meteors and dimmed Star Trails.In the second sequence I really wanted to have persistent meteors. It was very labor intensive to get the shooting stars to linger. Basically I had to cut each meteor out and then have that be on a higher track. Then have that track fade out. (I hope that made sense!) I used Star Trails in the first and third sequence because that is much less labor intensive way to show meteors and have them persist. I developed a new method for making star trails. In normal star trails, the trails are bright and cause the image to lose detail in both the stars and the Milky Way. In my new technique, I've made it so the trail is dimmer and the original frame is more pronounced so that there is still detail in both the stars and Milky Way. Milky Way Time-Lapse - Double Arch - Alabama Hills Kenneth Brandon - Dark Sky Chaser 2012-10-19 | This month my dad and I headed off to the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, CA. These hills sit in the shadow of Mt. Whitney. The hills have awesome rocks formations and are home to over 300 arches. Many movies have been shot there. In this video I wanted to try a few new things. Using our DIY slider I actually used two cameras to shoot a 3D time-lapse sequence. I still am trying to work out how to edit and upload in 3D, but expect to see a 3D sequence soon!The main arch In this video is Double Arch but is also known as Cyclopes Arch. John Muir Trail Time-Lapses of the Milky Way Kenneth Brandon - Dark Sky Chaser 2012-07-14 | Here are 7 time-lapse sequences I took while hiking the John Muir Trail (JMT) with my wife and brother. This is the first time I have ever taken my DSLR with me hiking. I'm pretty happy that I did. I brought 8 batteries and 128GB of Memory. (Around the halfway point I was able to recharge my batteries and transfer the files to a computer giving me a total 256 GB worth of memory for the trip.) All sequences were taken with my Canon T3i. I used the intervelometer script from the Magic Lantern firmware to drive the camera. Most star time-lapses were 30 second exposures every 45 seconds. All time-lapses are played back at 24 frames per second. Here's the sequences:1. Stars over Half Dome2. Climbing Half Dome3. Stars over Donahue Pass4. HDR Clouds over Lake Marjorie near Pinchot Pass 5. Stars over Upper Palisade Lake near Mather Pass6. Stars over Forester Pass7. Star trails over the backside of Mt. Annular Solar Eclipse Time-Lapse May 22, 2012 Ring of Fire!! Kenneth Brandon - Dark Sky Chaser 2012-05-22 | I was fortunate to travel to Zion National Park and see a perfectly centered Annular Solar Eclipse, and the Ring of Fire!! Here's how I did it:1. Using my Telescope, Canon T3i, and intervalometer, I took three picture in AEB mode every 20 seconds, 1 dark, 1 medium, and 1 bright.2. I then created three time-lapses each from the three different exposure: Dark, Medium, Bright. 3. I then stabilized each of these time-lapses in Adobe After Effects. (I'm a novice when it comes to AE. That's why the stabilization isn't that good.)4. Using Adobe Premiere Pro, I cross faded the three time-lapses so that the sun stayed relatively the same color and brightness.What a Blast!I rushed to post this so I decided to not add music. (I'm very bad at picking music, so it takes me forever!) I also decided to post this without waiting to complete my other time-lapses from my trip to Zion National Park.
