I was listening through the replies and absolutely grooving, so I thought I'd give it a shot too! The idea was to keep his 125BPM "B", but play with the meter a whole lot. I first set his recording to a different tempo backtrack (the project is in 75 rather than 125). The piano and lead melody are in 5, the bass is in 4, and the percussion is in 3. I’ve just recently finished playing P5 and all of Meguro’s music throughout the game was completely infectious, but none moreso than the Palace infiltration music “Life Will Change.” I had thought the tune was well-suited for being rendered with this sort of instrumentation, so when Carlos announced his jazz challenge, I was excited--it gave me the perfect opportunity to take a crack at this piece. I bombarded the arrangement with punchy walls of sound, cool melody tradeoffs, fat chords, and some nifty piano syncopation; between the powerful guitar and bass from Ro, smooth sax runs from muta1206, the crispy trombone from dannymusic, and the punchy trumpet from Marc, the arrangement really came alive! I can’t thank them enough for setting aside time to perform for me. I hope you enjoy the tune! Divergence -Rime Rapids- (from Cryamore) | Multiplayer Charity David Russell 2016-08-27 | Hi there! This is my track for the Multiplayer III: WAVE videogame charity album--a groovy cover of "Divergence" from Cryamore, composed by Aivi Tran.The idea behind the annual Multiplayer Charity albums is two-fold: raising money for a charity organization, and creating an album around a specific theme. For this year's “water” theme, I chose to arrange a track from Aivi's OST of an upcoming (unreleased at the time of posting) game: Cryamore. I wanted the music to have a...sort-of "conversation” between the guitar and piano, emphasizing playful melody trade-offs and “divergent” interpretations of different sections in the piece. The initial transcription readily lead me to explore neat rehamonizations and include a super fun 9/4 section in the arrangement. The whole interplay between bass, guitar, and piano is an interesting result from this work, and I'm excited to share this music with you. Each official version of the Miraculous theme had their perks: the French one has the smoothest lyrics, the Korean one has the coolest backtrack accompaniment, and...I can understand the English one! This is the one track from Ori's OST that always stood out to me as being a little bit different in style, and I wanted to see how much further I could push it. Having covered "Light of Nibel" for another album a year prior, I knew I didn't want to make another straight orchestral-interpretation of Gareth Coker's music. So, I tried my hand at replicating "The Waters Cleansed" as best as I could, planning to use the last phrase as a solo section for the vibes, piano, and oboe. In the end, I feel what makes this cover unique is the interesting percussive textures throughout, as well as the fun trio of solos near the end. At the time the Materia Collective was doing track selection signups, I was watching Cowboy Bebop. I noticed how similar the opening of Yoko Kanno's “TANK!” was to the opening of “Dead End” and this thought grew to later be developed into the idea of arranging “Dead End” as a bebop-style piece. The battle-esque character of the music is what initially drew me into making this arrangement, but I wanted to strip away the atonal buildup sections in the second half of the original 1-minute track to really highlight the tiny melody and to fully develop the piece into something that wouldn't seem out-of-place on, say, a big band stage. So, I studied a bunch of Sammy Nestico scores to put this piece together--a totally eye-opening experience. As my first venture of engraving in the realm of jazz, it was quite a hurdle to overcome the comfort of my standard style of arrangement.
