The Fruit of Meekness Capac Bible Church 2025-10-10 | “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23Today in our study of the fruit of the Spirit, we come to the fruit of meekness.What is meekness?In our text meekness is the Greek word πραότης and it means gentleness, mildness, humility, indulgence toward the weak and erring, patient suffering of injuries without feeling a spirit of revenge. It is sensitivity of disposition and kindness of behavior, founded on strength and prompted by love, an even balance of all tempers and passions. Controlled strength. The person who is meek is polite, restrained and compassionate toward others. This fruit should be evident in the person in whom the Holy Spirit dwells.Some people think of meekness as weakness, but this is not the case at all. A. W. Tozer once wrote, “The meek man is not a human mouse afflicted with a sense of his own inferiority. Rather, he may be in his moral life as bold as a lion and as strong as Samson; but he has stopped being fooled about himself. He has accepted God’s estimate of his own life. He knows he is as weak and helpless as God declared him to be, but paradoxically, he also knows at the same time that he is in the sight of God of more importance than angels. What Is Your Focus? Capac Bible Church 2025-09-13 | “And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” 1 Corinthians 2:1-2There are many churches, groups, fellowships and schools out there — each of them waving the banner of Christ, and each of them heralding Truth — and yet they are not unified. In fact, there is so much diversity and division among them that one might well wonder at times if they are even all of the same Faith!So many different factions! And the reasons for all the different factions is our people are divided on doctrine, and so they separate themselves. And they will often separate themselves over things that are of lesser importance. They will major on the minors.In our text, the apostle Paul did not write, “I determined not to know anything among you, save proper eschatology.” He also did not write, “I determined not to know anything among you, save the Law of God.” He did not even say, “I determined not to know anything among you, save where the lost tribes of Israel went.”All of the above may be of great interest, and of great importance, but Paul did not write any of the above here in our text. Kindness Matters Capac Bible Church 2025-08-30 | “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance . . .” Galatians 5:22-23The word fruit here is the Greek word karpos, which is where we get our phrase carpal tunnel. The carpal tunnel is the passageway in the wrist through which the median nerves and tendons of the hand travel. Even so karpos is the mechanism through which that which is in the heart of a tree comes forth and is seen. What is inside is made manifest in the fruit.The Bible says that a tree is identified by its fruit. It Is Well With My Soul Capac Bible Church 2025-08-21 | We have all heard and sung the beloved old hymn, It Is Well With My Soul. We sing it often here when we are gathered together for worship. It is a beautiful hymn that touches the heart. But it is even more moving when you know the story behind the hymn.Sometimes great hymns are born in joy and revival, and sometimes they are born in trials, or even tragedy. Horatio Spafford wrote this hymn under tragic circumstances. He had suffered great loss in the great fire of Chicago in 1871. He had been a successful attorney, and had invested heavily in real estate in the area that was destroyed by the fire. Then, a couple of years later, his business interests were hit even further by the Panic of 1873.At that time, Spafford planned a trip to the United Kingdom with his family and some friends, to help with D. L. Moody’s upcoming evangelistic campaigns over there.When the time for their departure arrived, some pressing business concerns came up, so he sent his wife Anna and daughters on ahead with their friends, and planned to join them shortly.About halfway into their journey across the ocean, at about 2 o’clock on the morning of November 22, 1873, their ship, the Ville du Havre, collided with the a three masted iron clipper, the Loch Earn, and she began to sink. Awakened by the crash, Anna bundled up her four daughters and guided them up onto the deck. There was Annie (age 12), Maggie (age 7), Bessie (age 4), and baby Tanetta (18 months). The frightened girls held on tightly to their mother. A devout woman of Faith, Anna offered words of comfort and courage to those around her. As the ship began to tip towards its slide into the icy depths of the sea, she calmly said, “Don’t be afraid,” and quoted Psalm 95:5, which says, “The sea is His, and He made it.”As the ship went down, a maelstrom of water and debris knocked baby Tanetta out of her mother’s arms and she was lost. The older girls all did their best to persevere, but they quickly succumbed to the cold and were lost as well. Anna alone was found by rescuers, barely conscious, floating on a piece of broken planking.The ship went down in just twelve minutes. Of the 313 people on board, only 61 passengers and 26 crew members survived.When Anna arrived in Cardiff, Wales, she sent a cablegram to her husband, to let him know of the tragedy. The cablegram read, “Saved alone, what shall I do?”Grief stricken, Spafford immediately caught a ship across the ocean to meet up with his wife. As the ship approached the place where his daughters had been lost, the captain of that ship, knowing Spafford’s tragic story, pointed out to him the place where the Ville du Havre went down. Tracing the History of the Stone of Witness Capac Bible Church 2025-05-04 | When Jacob was traveling from Beersheba towards Haran, he stopped at Luz to rest. He used one of the stones of that place, a stone that had been discarded by builders, as his pillow. While sleeping that night, he had a dream about a ladder reaching to heaven, with angels ascending and descending upon it. And the Lord stood above the ladder and said, “I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; and thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.” Genesis 28:13-15When he woke up, Jacob said “Surely, the LORD is in this place! How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!,” and he called the name of the place Bethel, meaning “house of God.” And he anointed the stone that he had laid his head upon and set it up as a pillar, consecrating it as a sacred monument.Jacob later went back to Bethel, where he anointed the stone again and remembered there the vow that he had made and that God had kept His Word to him. This was a significant moment in Jacob’s life. Who Jesus Is To Me Capac Bible Church 2025-04-25 | Who is Jesus to me? He is my Lord, my God, my King, my friend, my example, my Saviour, my love, my all. He is my reason to live, and my blessed hope. He is the One I most sincerely wish to please, and He is the One I am most ashamed to see what I truly am without His gracious help. He is the only One who truly matters in the end, and my fallen ears long for, with great anticipation, those sweet words, so undeserved, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Those words will indeed be music to my ears, but in my heart I will know that it is ONLY BECAUSE OF HIM that I, by faith, will hear those words on that glorious and happy day. And when in scenes of glory the redeemed cast their crowns at the feet of the ONLY one who is worthy of them, I will at once both quickly and joyfully do likewise, and will shout with the thunderous chorus of the redeemed, saying, “THOU art worthy, my LORD!!
