O3DE, a full-featured, real-time MIT/Apache2 open source 3D engine, can be used to create high-fidelity games, robotic simulations and immersive 3D worlds. This session will focus on explaining how the O3DE Render Pipeline works, how to leverage its data driven nature, and in general how to customize it to suit your needs or artistic preferences.
O3DE is a fairly new Open Source game engine, so this talk hopes to raise awareness of the advantages of the rendering architecture of O3DE, educate 3D graphics practitioners about the importance of a data driven and modular renderer and share best practices on how to make the O3DE renderer "your own".

From playing video games at an early age with his dad, Jack saw game development as a way to blend his interests in software and storytelling. He has found a strength in programming and project management.
Jack shares his experiences with both the Open 3D Engine and the community itself through the lens of Project Eureka, with an appreciation for seeing the full game development process and having a published, commercial product to show for it.
Matteo begins by sharing his journey with O3DE since its announcement, highlighting his curiosity and exploration of the engine's architecture for potential educational use. Now, he introduces a new tutorial focused on creating a basic prototype of a stealth game using only O3DE's built-in features.
Matteo defines a stealth game and its core mechanics, emphasizing player control, mission completion, and stealth mechanics amidst enemy patrols. He outlines the goals of the tutorial, aiming for simplicity, accessibility, and a focus on core mechanics without external dependencies.
The tutorial covers essential topics such as maze design, player controller creation, and enemy AI implementation, utilizing O3DE's entity component architecture and unique features like the event bus system. Matteo emphasizes readability over runtime performance optimizations, making the tutorial accessible to beginners while providing room for extension based on individual project needs.
Each topic is divided into three phases, accompanied by dedicated videos: goal analysis, component configuration, and additional feature suggestions for extending the prototype. Matteo concludes by showcasing basic game mechanics and hints at possibilities for further enhancement.
Throughout the conversation, AJ shares the details of his Project Eureka journey, including the transition from Unity to O3DE and the benefits of working with an open-source engine. He's candid about the challenges they faced, like merge conflicts, and the surprises that popped up along the way, all while emphasizing the importance of curiosity and tenacity in game development.
AJ also dishes on his favorite game and the excitement building around State of Matter, their upcoming release.
Stay tuned for the release of the team's game, State of Matter.

In this video, we will go through the step-by-step process of using Script Canvas in O3DE to create a player shooting behavior and control collisions between the player's projectiles and other objects in the game world. Script Canvas is a powerful visual scripting tool that allows you to create complex gameplay behaviors without writing any code.
We will begin by setting up the basic player character in the game engine and creating a basic shooting behavior using Script Canvas. This will allow us to fire projectiles from the player character when we press a designated button.

In this video, we will go through the step-by-step process of creating a scoring and lives HUD using Script Canvas in O3DE. Script Canvas is a powerful visual scripting tool that allows you to create complex gameplay behaviors without writing any code.
We will begin by setting up the basic HUD elements in the game engine, such as the score counter and lives indicator. Then we will create a script using Script Canvas that updates the HUD elements based on the player's actions. For example, we can create a behavior where the score increases when the player hits an enemy, and the lives decrease when the player takes damage.
