This started as something I thought I could get done before dragonfly's birthday and turned into a project that scooped up 6 weeks of my life!It all started with the release of 'EVI II RC6' which introduced "Annihilate Me" mode, which puts the player up against the coop/multiplayer mode alone. I'd already played through Evi II twice on Ultra Violence, but I thought "what the heck". I managed to crawl through the first chapter, dying many times along the way; This mode is no joke! Through all that though, it allowed me to re-appreciate Map 5: Departure, for me it is the most beautiful of Chapter 1's maps. The music for this map is spectacular to say the least. I had considered covering the track before, but I thought now I’d give it a shot!So just so the Eviternity team knows, this cover exists because you guys updated the game!For this project I wanted to focus on making my arrangement more original. One of the trappings that I had with the ‘Velocity’ cover is I was always looking at the original MIDI to see what I should play next. For this project I wanted to really focus on using my ears more, and coming up with my own parts to put in the arrangement. And I think for the most part I succeeded at this. I'm pretty happy with my original acoustic guitar solo. And I like how I've beefed up a lot of the Metal elements of the original song. Some of the leads in this song were crazy though, especially the legato 7/8 part; That part took me about a week to get up to speed.Filming for this video was also a lot of fun! The Eviternity team recently put out Merch so it was cool to incorporate their designs into some outfits. Honestly the outfits are probably the one thing that kept me from going insane during filming. I don't know if you can tell but it's really claustrophobic in this room with all the lights and cables running everywhere. I would have gone insane if I wasn't wearing a mini skirt and ‘Eviternity II’ crop top.Well, I think this description is long enough. Weird songs. Songs like "Misfire", "Seaside Rendezvous", and the epic retelling of our lord and savior simply titled "Jesus". I found though the songs that stood out to me the most were the one's that made me wonder why they weren't more popular, perhaps that would ruin their charm; songs like "Lily of the Valley", "All Dead" and of course "Leaving home ain't easy". This song off of the album 'Jazz' always stood out to me. I just love how well Brian can capture all the elements that are involved with leaving home; The mystery, the anxiety, the melancholy, the adventure and the excitement. Doing this cover really helped me move out without having a emotional breakdown, and also ensured me that moving out was the right thing to do.I'm gonna be taking a small break for a few weeks just find my bearings, but I can assure you I'm going to be coming back in full swing. Moving out is only going to help me make bigger and better things. So I decided it would be better to just do a full cover of one song. That song being Fear Factory.I feel that Fear Factory is a song that simply doesn't get enough love when it comes to the DKC soundtrack. I think the reason for this is because it's heard much later in the game after so many other great tracks in the game. But if you ask me I honesty think it's one of the best tracks in the game. The way it combine Industrial musicial elements, with rock and the "Jungle" instruments that are in the the rest of the soundtrack is just marvellous. David Wise truly in a genius. So for this arrangement I wanted to have at least one repeat that stays true to the original song and it structure/arrangement, especially when it came to dynamics. So I'm sure you're all aware of the song 'Take On Me' by a-ha, but did you know they are much more then a one hit wonder band. They actually have a large and long lasting discography and also one of the biggest bands in Europe. To be fair though, I've only heard their greatest hits album, but even that's quite good, I'd recommend it at least one listen. So, as you can hear this song is big which is just how I like it! Even 'Take On Me' had a bunch of layers of production, but 'The Sun Always Shines on T.V' is even bigger. From the synths pads, to the rock guitar, the 80's drums and of course 'Morten Harket' soaring vocals. It's just how I like my music, dense, layered and dripping with emotions.So of course arranging this was a lot of fun. Naturally that epic pop style of the original fit perfectly in the stylings of Power Metal. The double bass stuff in Chorus' naturally takes the part of the arp'd sythns in the original. Plus those Choir vocals fit right into the genre. All around a very fun arrangement. Please let me know what you think. I was originally thinking of doing this in a power metal style, at 160 BPM and rounding the 3/4 timing down to 2/4. Is other words, ruining the song as a joke. But I don't think that idea would of done well in the long run. I think it would be good for a quick laugh and a single viewing, and then would of stopped getting views 2 weeks in. So I'm very glad I decided not to go with that idea. I think what I've came up with is a lot more truer to the original piece.The arrangement that I've come up with is a bit odd looking back at it now. I'm sure a lot of people will find the sudden change from choir to metal to be quite jarring. I may release it on music stores if there is enough interest in it. -I came into the Half-Life fandom pretty late in '2014' but I've been hooked ever since. The world, environment and characters that these games create is so interesting and so addicting it's honestly shocking that I have played anything different since Half-Life. Something I've always in enjoyed watching are Half-Life Speedruns, the speed and movement that can be obtained in these games is unbelievable and honestly something to behold.One of first one I ever saw was 'Half-Life in 20:41'; at the time I had just made it up to 'Lamda Core' in game after a few days effort, so seeing this run was INSANE! Even over 6 years later it's still impressive to watch.My addiction to Half-Life reached it peak in early 2016 and at the time I had plans to make a Medley for Half-Life, but I always had trouble arranging the music in a way that was both unique and entertaining. But recently I had an idea to make this arrangement interesting, and it's something that musician have been using to make novel musical ideas into great ideas - Speed. After that little epiphany, all the ideas started flowing, now we weren't just doing a Metal cover we were doing a Thrash Metal cover. And now after 4 years in development, I have made a Half-Life Metal Cover; Hopefully it was worth the wait.So just for the record I don't consider this a medley, honestly I don't know what to consider it. So how about we just go with "A piece of music takes inspiration and references from the original HL1 soundtrack...mostly 'Nuclear Mission Jam'. So yeah that's why the title is so different from my regular format.
