Having hard and uncomfortable conversations is part of this intention. It's often the things that are left unsaid that cause the most problems, the expectations that we didn't communicate, the times that we were actually hurt and said it was ‘fine’. And fear is often the main reason we don't engage in many of these conversations. But the reality is that the real end begins the moment we start avoiding and sweeping these hard conversations under the rug. We need to acknowledge the importance of these instead of hiding from them. We just have to be brave and willing to sit through the initial discomfort of bringing them to the table.Give yourself grace as you navigate the complexities of these dialogues. The art of knowing how to get lost involves daring to go beyond the boundaries that contain you and explore the unknown. To escape for a day from the safe path and enter the unforeseen.And it doesn't mean that you need to wander into a forest on your own, without a map or GPS. There are many simple ways to get lost — reading an engrossing book, engaging in a conversation about a topic you don’t know much about, or just trying a new meal in a restaurant that is outside of your usual. Why do we hold things against people? Why do we judge? Why do we not forgive? We forget that we’re all flawed - no one is perfect. When we recognise this, we can start to practice kindness and learn how to love these imperfections in everyone we meet. Kindness displaces rudeness, criticism and anger.And by cultivating more kindness, to ourselves and others, we start to experience how the darker parts of life become illuminated by love. We suppress emotions that cause us pain, we suffer from worry, fear and trauma. We think that we’ll be happy when we get married, or we’ll be satisfied when we get a promotion at work. We are convinced that we’ll find joy when we finally buy that luxury car.But happiness is better linked to contentment. It’s about being content with what we have - not hunting for anything more than what we need. The abundance of the present is enough to lead a happy and healthy life.Of course, this doesn’t mean that we should settle for things as they are. We should continue to dream, set goals, and work towards them. We just need to remember to enjoy the journey and not rush to make it happen.Being grateful for everything we do have instead of spending most of our time thinking about what we don’t have, makes life a lot more beautiful.
