What better way to celebrate than to bring you the classic CAULDRON from Palace Software! There's no denying this was quite a special release at the time, compared to other games back in 1985 this really stood out thanks to it's visuals, style, atmosphere and two different styles of gameplay. But it was also overly difficult, in fact one of the HARDEST games I've ever come across on the Amstrad!!!! And I've put off doing a longplay of this game for many years deeming its level design frustratingly broken and stupid. Along with it's sequel, it became one of my most detested games on the Amstrad and a bit of a meme to taunt me with within the community! Xyphoe 2022-10-25 | #amstrad #amstradcpc #amstradcpc464 #supergranLongplay and review for "Super Gran" on the Amstrad CPC!"Super Gran" across all formats is often regarded as one of the WORST licensed games of all time, the poor thing! And it's a fairly obscure licence. If you're under 40 and outside the UK it's highly likely you won't have heard of the TV show (and books) this is based on - and if even if you're not, you may have still missed it as a kid or have long forgotten about it!! However the show did have it's cheap and naff charm, maybe the game has too?For the Amstrad version I was able to track down the coder David Black! And wished there was an official port and conversion to the Amstrad!! 😭 So in this video I go in search of what happened to the Amstrad port when every other computer and console bloody got one (spoiler... we nearly did....), I also go looking for the best Zaxxon clones on the Amstrad (another spoiler... it's our main feature and longplay - "Zaxx"!) but first we start off with a little history lesson and playthrough of the first loop of the classic coin-op that started it all - Zaxxon! What was cool (especially for collectors) is that they used a numbering system on the spine of the cassette cover so we can start at #1 (the earliest release) and work our way through them! Starting at the top of a 30 storey building, Otto the super spy has to use the lifts to infiltrate the building, recover all the secret documents, shoot the gangsters and escape in the waiting car in the basement! Slap Fight was a very popular coin-op and it was a big shame the Amstrad got such a poor conversion. So 2 years ago Abalore Games released their first remake as "Alcon 2020" (taking the name of the US release of Slap Fight which was ALCON) to great praise! But they decided to improve on it further.... and 2 years later here we are with the final version with new improvements but most importantly an increased frame rate to a liquid smooth 25 FPS!!!!Abalore Games have been shipping out the physical editions of their game to people in the community, but tonight they have very kindly provided the very FIRST .cpr ROM file of the final edition of the game for use in emulators to the Amstream for us to play live on stream tonight!!So I will be attempting to try and loop/beat the game live on the Amstream tonight! If you're offended by vulgar humour, body parts, rude words, smut, etc then this isn't the game and video for you! Based on the famous, popular and naughty British comic / magazine - Virgin had a difficult job of turning this into a game and getting stores to stock it!! But apparently they did and it sold very well, riding high in the charts for quite some time.
