In this advanced tutorial by flomotion you will learn how to 3d object track a head and attache 3d objects in 3d space.
I will show you how to do this with the help of element 3d by videocopilot as well as how to do it in the native 3d space in after effects with no extra plugin needed.

GeoTracker is a plugin that brings 3D-object tracking to Adobe After Effects.

Match-moving tasks are done with a snap with GeoTracker — what usually requires a team of motion tracking specialists can be done by a VFX artist with no tracking skills and with less time spent. Now this technology is available for users of After Effects, so they can use object tracking to reach the new level of motion graphics and design.

The pin-based approach helps you to keep your model under precise control while placing and moving it in 3D space naturally and effortlessly. All that in the standard 2D viewport without additional windows or gizmos.

3D object tracking requires a 3D model. GeoTracker provides you with four built-in primitives: plane — for screens, walls and any flat surfaces; sphere — for balls, heads and other spherical objects; cube — for vehicles, boxes, buildings, etc; and cylinder — for bottles, rockets, cups and so on. With v2023.1 and newer you can use a generic head to track human heads and faces. You can also export all these models as .OBJ and .FBX files.

In this new tutorial by flomotion I am going to show you how to use the new text to video feature within adobe firefly to generate 5 second videos out of only text prompts. I will show you the best prompts and how to set this up.
I will also show you how to use a reference image to drive the animation as this will become the first image of your animation.

Adobe gave me early access to the Adobe Firefly Video model, and I’ve been playing around with it for a few days. I’m amazed at what it’s able to create. It’s really great at getting you started right away, coming up with ideas and concepts, and it could still improve in creatig consistant letters and words.

Underwater Tutorial in After Effects (Teaser)
Create an underwater scene!! Dry for wet!! Wet for dry!!

In this new tutorial by flomotion I will show you how to transform a "dry" scene into a "wet" underwater scene as you may have seen in Aquaman, the way of water or shape of water.

We will start by creating the look on a still photograph to illustrate and show all the steps neccesarry to do so:
the main thing is to sell the texture / tickness / density of water and we can do that with playing with the depth with a depth map or depth pass. I will show you how to create that in 3d as well as on a 2d image.
We will then use that to drive most of the effects, from distortion to color, tint displacement or depth of field.
We will add underwater footage from ActionVFX to sell the shot even more, and I am goint to show you a few ways to add "interactive lighting" with volumetric light as it appears under water.
We will also take a look at creating caustics in different ways to interact with the scene.

As a bonus I will show you how to create the "underwater" hair effect as you may have seen in aquaman, but in a way more approachable / low budget way that still holds up for production.

In addition we will learn somehting about chromatic abberration, collor correction as well as the "curtain" preset ;)

Environment Lights create realistic lighting, reflections, and shadows on 3D layers by surrounding the scene with an image-based environment map. In After Effects Beta, environment lights only work in the Mercury 3D renderer.

To add an environment light, choose Layer New Light, and set the Light Type to Environment.

Environment lights use a default environment map. This can be changed to use an HDR or HDRI format image layer as an environment map:

1. Import an HDR (Radiance HDR) file into your project.
2. Add the HDR file to a comp with an environment light.
3. Twirl open the environment light’s properties in the Timeline panel.
4. Set the light’s Source property to the HDR layer.

The HDR layer’s visibility will be disabled when it is chosen as an environment map. You can re-enable this if you wish, however this will continue to be a 2D render of the layer. To simulate the HDR layer as a background scene layer, apply the CC Environment effect to a solid layer the same dimensions as the comp.

Note: The existing Layer Environment Layer switch does not work with the Mercury 3D renderer. This option works only with the Cinema 4D renderer.

There are many HDR and HDRI environment maps available to download on the internet, or you can create your own using Substance 3D Sampler.

While environment lights only accept HDR format files as environment maps, you can easily convert other image file formats to HDR using Photoshop:

1. Open the image file in Photoshop.
2. Choose Image Mode 32 Bits/Channel. (Radiance format requires 32 bits per channel.)

You can also export a Radiance HDR file from After Effects comp: choose Composition Save Frame As File, then open Output Module settings and set the Format to Radiance.

Environment light shadows
The default image-based lighting does not cast shadows. When you add an Environment light to your scene, you gain the ability to cast voxel shadows with the default lighting or from an assigned HDR layer. All layers in the scene will cast shadows when Cast Shadows is enabled.

GeoTracker is a plugin that brings 3D-object tracking to Adobe After Effects.

Match-moving tasks are done with a snap with GeoTracker — what usually requires a team of motion tracking specialists can be done by a VFX artist with no tracking skills and with less time spent. Now this technology is available for users of After Effects, so they can use object tracking to reach the new level of motion graphics and design.

The pin-based approach helps you to keep your model under precise control while placing and moving it in 3D space naturally and effortlessly. All that in the standard 2D viewport without additional windows or gizmos.

3D object tracking requires a 3D model. GeoTracker provides you with four built-in primitives: plane — for screens, walls and any flat surfaces; sphere — for balls, heads and other spherical objects; cube — for vehicles, boxes, buildings, etc; and cylinder — for bottles, rockets, cups and so on. With v2023.1 and newer you can use a generic head to track human heads and faces. You can also export all these models as .OBJ and .FBX files.

We will object track the head using the geo tracker form keen tools. Once done we will create 3d position surface nulls to attache the 3d object arrows to the surface of the head.

Once done I will show you how to add blood elements to the head using mocha from boris fx and its super powerfull Power Mesh Tool that is available in Mocha Pro.

Select Neural Filters
Choose Filter - Neural Filters from the main Photoshop menu.
Download the Colorize filter from the cloud
Before using the filter for the first time, you will need to download it from the cloud. Simply click on the cloud icon to download the filter.
Enable the filter and adjust the colors
The Colorize filter will automatically assign colors to the image using AI. You can adjust the color balance after enabling the filter by moving the sliders in the Neural Filters panel.
Enable the Colorize filter by clicking on the circle next to the filter.
Adjust the sliders to the desired color balance.
Change automatic color choices (optional)
In cases where you wish to use a color other than the one automatically selected by the filter, such as changing the color of clothing in a portrait, you can drop a pin on the desired area and select a different color.
Click on the Color picker below the image preview and select a color.
Click on the preview image at the location you wish to change the selected color. This will drop a pin on the focal point and fill the related area with the selected color.
You can select the pin to edit the color or drag the pin to another location.
Continue adding pins and selecting colors as needed.
Hold Alt/Option and drag an existing point to duplicate a color in another location in the image.

Don't believe everything you see or read on the internet

Try to get it as even as possible. Read nothing more and you will find a list of some green screen ideas. And I have used in the video description. Hey, and it always makes sense to also buy some of those here. You can only get the middle of the green screen super flat. Well, then place your actor there.

No, the middle makes the most issues. Well, they move your actor to the side, but now I can see the floor. Hey, have you actually realized that? I have not keep my feet and the chair because there was no green screen? Again, we only need green screen where we need it. If your green screen is too small, then decide on what's most important.

And in this case, it's my head and my hands. Because also, the more green you have, the more green spills you will have and also the harder it will be to get the lights just right. So off to number two, setting up the lights. Where shall I put that Right after number two, setting up the camera, because that defines what you see in the end.

And this has a lot of impact on the lights as well it as well as the placement of the lights. So two things are important to you. First of all, the video codec, the best codec gives you the best results. And unfortunately, that's how it is. That may also be the reason why today's movies are not shot with the newest smartphone.

So I'm filming this on a smartphone and this on the Canon EOS, R5 C, both on their best settings and I really hope you see the difference. You can see the difference. So here's a Protip before placing your actor in front of the camera, quickly do a keying test only with one click. Now you see. So and second is the resolution.

Because the bigger the stencil, the easier it is to cut out. So think outside of the box. Here are simply rotate the box to get almost twice the size. But wait, if this is the case anyways, then you really don't have to reduce the shutter anyway. And if you really want to cut the shutter by half, you also only have half the amount of light coming in and that may be your bigger problem.

That's my room light as well as the green screen light. But having the green screen close to the actor also causes some more spill. Yes, because there's a difference between close and close. You also don't want to cast too much shadow on the green screen. And as soon as that is gone, you should be far away enough. And by the way, your spur concerns when keying in after effects, the key light effect removes spilled by default.

Oh, and if you disable that feature, there's also dedicated effect called Advanced Boo Killer. Basically, those effects are there, so you have a little bit more freedom to play with while shooting. So in a nutshell, if you have super expensive light that gets the job done and your studio is super big, great use that. If you are a YouTuber and your bedroom is just and you and you need five cheap lights to do the same thing, well I don't care on awesome sets.

The more often you do it, the better you get. Because if you only try to follow the instructions, you will not learn how to light a green screen. You will just learn how to follow instructions. Enough movie quotes for most lights. This works best. If you're not, shoot them straight on the green as this provides you with some hotspots.

And now comes the super cool visual effects on set trick that no one ever talks about. Hey, until now, how bright should the green screen be? You ever thought about making the green darker when there's something dark in the background and make it brighter? If there's something bright in the background? Is that too bright and is this too dark?

This is 160 ISO. Hey, wait. Now the image just got darker and we need either more light again or bring up the iso again. And this is with the way higher iso you. No, here's the shot as you see it. A little too dark. Yeah, here it is with 400 iso. Perfect. Now it is a one click on both of them.

Whoa. Holy moly. The far iso looks great on camera and like a big Swiss cheese in post-production. But wait, the one that was simply a little bit too dark looks great in terms of kin. Oh. Oh great idea. Now was just a small adjustment. It is as bright as the other one, but it looks way better. You know, it is simply easier to make it a little brighter than removing all the grain.

And for now, I wish you a lot of fundamentals and a lot of fun in After Effects.
