Sky Over Tokyo caught my ear when it was playing in the most tense part of the movie. I spent some time trying to arrange it, but gave up since I felt like the piano couldn't capture the full sound of the OST. A few weeks later, I watched animenz arrangement which was inspiring, epic, yet simple, and realized I didn't have to try to replicate the full sound, but instead do what sounds most pleasing through the piano. I reasoned to myself that all the time and effort I put into piano wasn't worth it because of imposter syndrome and the fact that not many people listen to my music. The numbers really got to me. Joining the rat-race to cover the latest new songs, trying to make it to the "Youtube algorithm," constantly facing blocks in my piano and arrangement skills--these problems made learning and arranging a new song from scratch quite difficult.I tried forgetting about piano throughout the past month... but I found myself coming back to the bench, hitting the keys, and playing whatever I felt in the moment over and over again. When going on Discord or scrolling through my Instagram/Youtube feed and seeing piano everywhere, I felt regret for not intentionally investing time into my passion.I randomly decided to watch all the Madoka Magica movies within the past few days. Although I'm not in the greatest mental state, after watching the movies and hearing the opening song, I felt inspired.The song is about not giving up and pushing through despair and darkness. It resembles the story of the main character to have hope and fight for the one she loves amidst a future that looks 100% doomed.This song is very special to me. I often find myself coming back to it. After listening to it a couple times this week, I found some motivation to do a quick, small arrangement. Sorry for the little SOB story. Regardless, I was able to finish 7 arrangements! I remember time-to-time feeling doubtful about committing to this project... but each person that messaged me and expressed interest in my covers and supported me... thanks to you guys, I was able to get this far!This song is the acoustic version of ED1. It is played in the final moments of the last episode when Kousei reads Kaori's letter. I did my best to arrange this to sound exactly like the piano in the actual song. Although this arrangement isn't particularly difficult, I found it quite difficult to keep the rhythm. You'll notice that the tempo is off in certain parts. Guilty Crown OST - Euterpe (エウテルペ) [piano] kevinseo 2020-06-27 | Hey all, just want to inform you that Guilty Crown has some of the greatest music in anime history. EGOIST is top tier yet so underrated. Chelly + Ryo = powerhouse combo.This is an old song so it's probably not going to get many plays... but I love it so much, and after hearing animenz' latest cover of Guilty Crown OP2 which is one of the greatest things I've heard this year, I felt inspired to playing something from this anime. I always find myself improvising to this song so I decided to arrange the whole thing. This cover literally took around 20 takes... Playing in front of the camera is always the hardest part, but this one was particularly tricky.. maybe I used a bit too many arpeggios... It was hard to get the scales down with a good rhythm towards the middle of the song... But hey, this is the best I got so far, and at the very least, I feel content with how it turned out~Enough of my little spiel, thanks for dropping by! It has a special place in my heart, and after rewatching it for the 3rd time, I made the decision to work on my favorite OSTs from the anime. I was hesitant initially and thought “why spend so much effort and time into something that might not get much traction?” But I threw the doubts aside and am committed to working hard despite whether many people will listen to it or not.I want to contribute to the community. Times are tough cause of this virus, but listening to Aimer has been brightening my days. Speaking of "brightening," when recording this video, there was sunlight that sneaked through my blinds on the floor so I had to mask 2 spots with black when editing... you might be able to notice it in some parts when my right arm gets more closer to the right-edge of the piano... it looks kinda ugly, forgive me for that~My past few arrangements including this one have been improvised/played by ear. I am noticing that writing a sketch down then practicing takes so much longer... so I think I will continue practicing in this manner. Made in Abyss is an otherworldly, heart-wrenching, and beautiful master piece. Even though the anime doesn't go that far and the manga seems like it has some time to go before finishing, you are missing out if you haven't watched + read it yet.
