Simple 20m Vertical Antenna With No Radials - DX Contacts on a Flat Band Shack & Field - G0CNN 2025-05-16 | Join me as I make a very simple, yet effective antenna for the 20m amateur band made entirely of RG-58 coax and it doesn't use radials, so a bonus if you haven't got the space to lay any out on the ground. There is an air-wound or ferrite choke option to this design. Having had success with the same antenna on 15m (21MHz), I scaled-up the design for 20m amateur band. Revisiting the Nuclear Bunker ☢️ Shack & Field - G0CNN 2025-04-20 | A great day out in the North York Moors National Park with Mark G0UOK from the Guisborough & District Amateur Radio Club. Today we visited the club's operating base which is hidden below ground in a secret nuclear bunker. This is one of over one thousand disused bunkers located all across the UK. Its main purpose was taking measurements, monitoring and reporting after a nuclear blast had taken place somewhere in the North East area of England. All part of the cold war efforts and perhaps surprisingly this bunker was still staffed by the Royal Observer Corps volunteers until 1981.The bunker is emptied of equipment and locked when not in use. I finally lost patience with two good patch leads that I've had for a few years when I was testing some equipment in the shack. I needed a new patch lead and the plugs were simply too long and didn't fit anything...I tried. Thailand DX - Vertical (Ant2) vs Dipole (Ant 1) Shack & Field - G0CNN 2024-07-19 | Interesting comparison between a 40m Off Centre Fed Dipole (Ant 1) and a 40m 1/4 wave vertical (Ant 2). On this occasion, listening to HS72KING in Thailand, the vertical was clearly stronger and had a lot less background noise. Both 40m antennas tune on the 15m harmonic.
