Philip Spencer, an off duty policeman, set off across the moor to visit a family member in a neighboring village.There were 2 reasons he decided to walk across the eerie moors in the dark that fateful morning.It was an obvious shortcut and would take him considerably less time to make his journey.And as an amateur photographer, he hoped to photograph the glory of the rising sunhitting the early morning mist which these moors were famous for.As a precaution, he packed a compass, as the miles of moorland can be unforgiving at the best of times.At some point in his journey, the sun had already dawned, which struck him as odd as he didn't remember seeing the sun rise.Shrugging it off he carried on towards his father-in-laws, when he caught a glimpse of something moving to his right.He swung around, camera in hand, and what he saw would haunt him for the rest of his life!Stood no more than 20m from him was a small humanoid creature, roughly 4ft in height, with greyish green skin.At first glance he thought it was a small child in a costume. But it soon occurred to him that this wasn't a small child at all.This was something else! Something he'd never seen before!!It had a large head with big black eyes and greyish green skin.It was Gesturing with it's hand ✋ as not to come any closer.Just before this creature scurried off over the embankment, Spencer raised his camera and snapped a single shot of the creature.He hurried after it only to see a dome shaped saucer shooting off into the sky!So fast that he was unable to take another picture.After the initial shock of what had just happened wore off. Grizzly Gaz 2023-06-14 | Built out of spite, Wainhouse Tower is the tallest folly in the world and it sits on the outskirts of Halifax, West Yorkshire.Wainhouse Tower is an old Victorian folly located in King Cross, Halifax, West Yorkshire.It was built between 1871 and 1875 by John Edward Wainhouse, a local mill owner.It stands at a height of 275 feet (84 meters) and has 403 steps leading to the top viewing platform.The Tower was intended to be a chimney for a dye works mill but it was never used for that purpose. There was an ongoing feud between Wainhouse and another local mill owner Sir Henry Edwards who had long complained of smoke nuisance coming from the dyeworks.It had long been the boast of Sir Henry that, when on the lawn at his Pye Nest Mansion, no-one could see into his private grounds. Wainhouse decided to alter all this, and he ensured the Tower would be constructed, that members of the public could have a good view of the whole district including Sir Henry's Pye Best estate. The feud between the two gentlemen became legendary. So MANY people have DIED on these moors! Grizzly Gaz 2023-06-11 | Wild camp in the Peaks!I met up with Ben from @daleyoutdoors for a wild camp in the Peak District to visit two airplane crash sites, the Bleaklow Bomber, as well as a lesser known crash site, the Blenheim Bomber, on the moors of the Peak District.Also check out @SummitOrNothing videos, they're awesome!The Bleaklow Bomber was a US Air Force Boeing RB-29A Superfortress called 'Over Exposed'.It was modified as a reconnaissance aircraft, rather than a bomber and crashed at Higher Shelf Stones on the Bleaklow moorland plateau near Glossop in Derbyshire on 3 November 1948. Over-Exposed was on a routine daytime flight with two other aircraft, leaving RAF Scampton near Lincoln at around 10:15am and heading to the US Air Force base at Burtonwood near Warrington. The pilot Captain Landon Tanner and co-pilot Captain Harry Stroud were flying by instruments as visibility was very low with the area covered in low cloud.Based on the flight time, the crew believed it had passed the hills and began to descend. At about 11:00am the aircraft hit the ground at 610m above sea level, 300m north east of the summit of Higher Shelf Stones and it was engulfed in flames.When the aircraft failed to arrive at the Burtonwood airbase, the nearby RAF Mountain Rescue Service was called to search for the missing aircraft. Already on a training exercise upon the Kinder Scout moors, the RAF Harpur Hill rescue team headed to Bleaklow and located the crash site at about 4:30pm, by which time the light was fading. The debris of the aircraft was scattered with only the tail section intact and the recovery of the occupants took place the following morning and they were taken to Burtonwood. All 11 crew and 2 military passengers sadly perished in the crash.The aircraft was carrying the $7,400 wages for the Burtonwood airbase. The money survived the fire and was recovered at the crash site by the American Military Police...This area of the Peak District has been very treacherous for aircraft in the past with 7 airplane crashes here dating from 1939 to 1956.Out of the 26 people involved in those crashes, only 2 survived.BRISTOL BLENHEIM BOMBERBlenheim Mk.I L1476 of No.64 Sqn of the RAF was a British light bomber aircraft which crashed on Sykes Moor 30th January 1939 while on a training flight from RAF Church Fenton near TadcasterThe crew had taken off from Church Fenton to carry out a local flying exercise, both of the crew were fairly new to the Squadron and Church Fenton so they were familiarising themselves with the surrounding area. The country's finest echo tunnel?If you wanna see my wild camp with ben at a crashed airplane site then head over to his channel: @daleyoutdoors Tucked away in a fold of moorland 1200ft above sea level, next to the highest motorway in the UK, is one of the finest echo tunnels in the country!A whispered "hello" into the 6ft diameter man made tunnel entrance brings back a booming HELLO from the depth of the Pennines!This tunnel became quite the tourist attraction back in the day to hear the echoes from one's voice bouncing back at you, but now it's just a memory long forgotten.Constructed in 1898 as a compensation tunnel for the green withens reservoir - one of Wakefield Water Board’s biggest holdings, with a capacity of over three hundred million gallonsThe tunnel runs for 850 feet into the hillside and is sealed by two giant sluice gates each of which take 750 turns on a geared wheel to open and close.It used to be opened at 5am everyday to feed the mills of the Rishworth valley and close at 5pm everyday. There is no use for it now with no working mills left in the area.When the Reservoir was being constructed, the tunnel served another purpose - a short cut to the wall that was to hold back millions of gallons of water.Stone was brought from local quarries along a railway line that ran from Derby Bar to the edge of the site. Will We Get Trampled at Englands HIGHEST Beach?! Grizzly Gaz 2023-05-20 | In this video I go to find what's been dubbed 'the UK's highest beach' at Gaddings Dam in Todmorden for a stealth camp. Which is in fact 780ft above sea level not 985ft as stated in the video. I guess trip advisor were wrong 🙄🤣🤣When I finally reached it, I was mobbed by a herd of young bulls which spoiled my plans for a stealth camp!Safety around cows:cows are usually quite docile but inquisitive creatures and don't normally pose a threat to humans but there are some deaths related to cattle but it is very rare and most injuries happen to industry workers not ramblers enjoying the countryside.If you find yourself in a field full of wary cows, here is some advice: * Give livestock plenty of space. Their behaviour can be unpredictable, especially when they are with their young.* Keep your dog under effective control to make sure it stays away from livestock. It is good practice wherever you are to keep your dog on a lead around livestock.* Let your dog off the lead if you feel threatened by livestock. Releasing your dog will make it easier for you both to reach safety. This reservoir has hidden dangers in it that can cause you to drown quite easily.It's also not open to the public because of these hidden killers and that's why I had to do a bit of stealth camping.people still use this place, especially unsupervised teenagers, for relaxing and swimming which is why I decided to make the video to try and bring awareness to the dangers of the reservoir.Also, is it really stealth camping if you use a light inside your tent? The Chernobyl of West Yorkshire - England Grizzly Gaz 2023-03-18 | I wanted to show you this amazing location called Allen Brickworks in Hipperholme, West Yorkshire.The brickworks has been described as the Chernobyl of Yorkshire as well as a photographers paradise.The glazed brick manufacturers was established by Henry Victor Allen (1887-1960), when he took over the Halifax Glazed Brickworks in 1905 in the Walterclough Valley. He converted the works to manufacture refractory bricks (glazed bricks able to withstand high temperatures, generally used to line kilns, furnaces and fireplaces etc). What did I capture on camera?In this video I camped on a disused railway line that was dismantled in 1953 and this is the location the Lady in White is supposed to haunt!There were creepy noises in the woods that I captured on film.
