Although the water pressure on Rapture would be extreme, if it was located a few hundred miles north-east, water depths could be manageable at around 760 meters. Manipulation of Archimedes's Principle at this depth could keep the whole city afloat. Take the Freedom Tower for example. Assuming it was water tight, Freedom Tower would actually float. In fact, the water pressure above the tower plus the force of gravity is only a little more than that of the buoyancy force. Not only would the structure not get crushed from the water above, it would actually be ⅔ lighter than if it was on the surface. Though bringing it down to the ocean floor and bolting it down is an additional problem.
I have been somewhat misleading however. Lateral pressure would be immense, causing it to crush like a hot can is cold water. There are design considerations that could be made, but at this scale, the effectiveness would be questionable. Not to mention, erosion would eat away at the metal and concrete, and joints would begin to leak. Basically, repairs would be a logistical nightmare.
For a modern city to function under water, a few considerations need to be made. Atmospheric conditions need to be maintained, food production needs to be sustainable and energy production needs to be stable. In the game, Hephaestus is a power facility that uses the real life, naturally occurring, geothermal vents found in the region to produce electricity. Geothermal activity can be a problem structurally, but in terms of heat and energy, it’s the only thing keeping Rapture alive. Geothermal activity is important to Rapture because at its depths, the water temperature can be sub-zero and no natural light can penetrate. Geothermal heat could be used to produce steam to run turbine power plants but it can also be piped to living spaces for space heating.
According to the game, Arcadia is the living, breathing lungs of Rapture filled with lush forests and abundant plant life tasked with generating the life-sustaining oxygen the city needs. In the game it’s noted that Arcadia is responsible for all of the oxygen for Rapture, but It’s unclear what the population of Rapture is. Assuming the population was around three million, that many people would exhale 2.7 million kilograms of CO2 every day which is equivalent in mass to about 540 fully grown elephants. At those levels, Rapture would needs over 45 million large trees to absorb it all. Even though there likely wouldn’t be enough plant life to sustain the environment, there are supplementary means for oxygen production. Looking towards the International Space Station for inspiration, electrolysis of water is the process of splitting water into its elementary parts of oxygen and hydrogen. The oxygen is used to breath and the hydrogen could be used in desalination plants to produce fresh water.
No utopia could survive forever and Rapture is no exception. Rapture could never survive, the ocean was always going to reclaim it. Although the signs of erosion are becoming more pronounced, Rapture was destroyed from the inside out. Rapture suffered from one fundamental flaw, a flaw that was intrinsic to it’s nature, Rapture was isolated. What destroys civilization faster than erosion are people in confined spaces with nowhere to escape. It’s no surprise that human nature got the best of Rapture, in fact there are numerous studies on the psychology of human isolation and confinement. Psychological health is a major concern for example on manned missions to Mars.

Ahhh PokémonGo, the game that brings nerds from all walks of life outside for the first time. In the game, Poké Balls are mysterious spherical cases that have the ability to trap Pokémon.
The word trap is used very lightly here and can mean a number of different things. It might turn the Pokémon's mass into energy, which would be a lot. And by a lot I mean 500 quadrillion Joules or the amount of energy the earth receives from the sun in a whole hour. Or in terms of us nerds know, about 36 trillion gallons of Mt Dew and 28 trillion pounds of Doritos.
If you’ve seen videos or read blog posts about Poké Balls, you’ve likely come across someone saying, “the mass is converted into energy, blah blah blah”. This is false. There is no mass to energy alchemy going on here because mass is simply a property of energy. E equals M C squared doesn’t tell you how much energy mass has, it tells you how much mass energy has. That’s why Einstein originally wrote it like this. I know this is probably either mind blowing or mind numbing depending on what you thought you were getting into when you clicked on click bait title, but stick with me. If you have two IDENTICAL clocks, but one is ticking and one is not, the ticking clock actually has more mass more. All of the potential, kinetic, and thermal energy within actually adds to the mass of the clock through E equals M C squared, but because the speed of light is so fast and it’s being squared, the extra mass recorded is extremely tiny. Now that we have that fallacy out of the way, we can look at Poké Balls more as mythical objects and less like physics breaking, animal killing killing machines.
In a previous video we talked about how humans could respawn, and in that video the question came up about what makes YOU, you. This is still one of the mysteries of life, but there’s no indication that if a Pokémon were to be broken down into its fundamental particles, that it could be reorganized into a living, breathing Pokémon once again.
Assuming you could reorganize the atoms back into the original form and it would be a living, breathing Pokémon once again, how could you store the whole body into a Poké Ball? What if you could break down the body into water and non water components. This was immediately reduce the amount of volume a Poké Ball would need to be. When revitalizing the Pokémon, just add water. It isn’t the most elegant method, but it would work right… right?
Here’s the problem, the amount of information you need to store the location, type, and state of every atom contained within a Pokémon would not only be a lot, it would be infinite. Atoms are made up of subatomic particles in a universe that is non-deterministic and probabilistic. In layman terms, basically you can’t know exactly where an electron is, only the probability of where it could be. Even if you were 99.9999999% sure where every electron was, in a Pokémon like Pikachu with 40 septillion atoms, the chance of you getting every atom correct is virtually zero. No literally, when you type this into almost every mathematics program you get zero. But for those curious, it’s one over ten to the sixteen quadrillion. You have a better chance to win the lottery a million times straight, get a thousand royal flushes in a row, then get attacked by a Rampadash, then you do to reconstruct a Pokémon in the non-deterministic universe.
What if the Poké Ball, is made of antimatter, and it annihilates the matter like the the Deathstar did in my previous Star Wars videos. With that maybe it could…. You know what, no. I’m done. When you’re having to use real life physics to explain a planet destroying death ball to explain how a Poké Ball works, I think you’ve gone too far.
Listen, I love PokémonGo as much as the next, hell as much as everyone, but the Poké Ball cannot, will not, ever exist in the known universe. It just can’t be done. Which is why, I believe that not only is Pokemon World not Earth it isn’t even a planet in our universe. It exists in a universe that has a different set of rules and a different set of physics!

Mars is dry, Mars is dead, Mars is hell. Oh yeah and in Doom there’s also demons.
In DOOM you are stranded on a human installation on the martian surface. It gets its name from the Roman God of War, fitting considering for all intents and purposes, Mars is desolate wasteland even without the demons.
Oh and those, those aren’t clouds of vapor water, those are the a signs of a deadly dust storm heading your way. If you were wondering if you could escape, no, no you can’t. Often times dust storms circle the entire planet leaving the surface hidden from orbit. The fourth rock from the sun also hides some other dangers, even some more lethal than the onslaught of demons.
From space, we can already begin to identify why mars is so hostile. There is no magnetic field to shield the planet from harmful radiation and solar wind. Demons aren’t the only foreign invaders wreaking havoc on the planet either. In 2004, the largest single gamma ray burst was recorded entering the solar system from a magnetar around 50,000 light years away. It released more energy in one tenth of a second than our sun had releases in the last 100,000 years. Any living creature on the planet would have its DNA shredded leading to more macroscopic transformations and ultimately death.
Mars is a dry, hostile wasteland. With a red tinted surface, Mars appears to be viciously hot and in the game fires appear on the surface. But the fires have got to be other worldly because there isn’t enough atmosphere on the planet to sustain a flame. Not to mention, the average surface temperature of the planet is around -47C (-52F). [At it’s coldest the surface drops down to a bitter -143C (-225F)].
If the the cold doesn’t affect you then you’re probably a demon, but something more deadly than the thin, cold, unbreathable air is the toxic soil. Perchlorate is a toxic chemical found in high concentrations on the surface that interferes with the body's metabolic functions leading to poor temperature regulation, sleeping disorders, and certain blood diseases. The habitat would need to be flushed of this toxic dust if a sustainable habitat were to exist.
In spite of its toxic nature, perchlorate could be mined and stripped of its oxygen atoms, providing the player and the habitat with a constant supply of breathable air. Something the demons don’t seem to need.
In DOOM, Mars is overrun with demons… or are they martians? In history, the line between the extraterrestrial and the demonic has rarely been well defined. In reality, a portal to Hell could just as likely be a portal to another world with inhabitants who are searching for a new home. In the game, a lot of similarities can be made between Hell and Mars, and the demons appear to be perfectly designed to survive on the planet. Much more so than the humans even.

The word big means, “larger or of great size”. Size refers to the concept of things having measurements that are relatively greater or lesser than other things along certain dimensions in physical space.
So if the Earth was twice as BIG, we could mean twice as tall or twice as massive, or twice the radius. All of these things mean something different. For example, if the earth were to double in width, the surface area would be four times greater and the mass would be eight times greater, increasing the gravitational acceleration and the “weight” of everything by two. The increased force incurred on the inhabitants of earth would mean everything that stands straight up would have to withstand greater forces and use more energy. Pumping water to the top of building, walking up stairs, growing taller, launching rockets, all would be a lot harder.
So taking this a step further, what if the planet grew twice radially, but the mass did not proportionally increase. So the planet puffed up. In this case, the mass of the planet did not increase, therefore the gravity does not increase, but because we are twice as far from center of mass the effective acceleration or force of gravity would only be 25% as great. In this world, it’s possible the Earth would not be able to hold onto the atmosphere we currently enjoy, which would cause some serious issues. But if any animals could survive on this planet, they would be able to grow to much larger sizes. The square-cube law prevents things from getting too large, in other words, as humans get taller, the volume and weight increase much faster. Reduced gravity wouldn’t bypass this law, but the boundary would be increased due to the reduced forces.
There is one glaring omission we’ve yet to discuss, if the earth suddenly expanded in size over say 10 seconds, everyone on the surface would be accelerated to velocity of 638 km/s (1427 mph) and launched into space. During this time the crust would crack to increase the surface area by four times, swallowing entire cities and releasing molten rock leaving only small islands from the bits of the crust that remain. Basically life on the planet is effectively over. On the bright side, the moon would take up a little bit more of the night sky.
In a lot of ways, it kind of sucks just how dependent we are on the first planet we’ve learned to inhabit. In Star Wars, we’ve seen characters do some pretty extraordinary things with the force. Everything from lifting aircraft to manipulating weak minds, and all the way up to stopping blaster shots in mid air. It seems that over the years the power of the force has grown stronger (especially in Episode VII…), but the basics still remain.
To try and explain “the force” it’s probably a good idea to know what a force is. From what we can tell, there are four fundamental forces and possibly four force-carrying particles.
The first is the strong force. As it’s name suggests, this force is the strongest of the four fundamental forces and is what binds quarks together to form protons and neutrons. Correspondingly the weak force is what changes protons into neutrons and neutrons into protons. Although their strength is many times greater than that of gravity, their influence can only be felt at the atomic and subatomic levels, which goes completely against what is seen in the movies. Not really what we’re looking for if we need to strangle someone through a computer monitor...
The next two, electromagnetic force and gravitational forces are the only two forces that have attributes that are consistent with the movies. The electromagnetic force is what’s responsible for the interactions between positive protons and negative electrons which in turn results in some other pretty interesting things. Electromagnetic force is communicated through photons, meaning that it travels at the speed of light, and has influence over infinite distances. The electromagnetic force is also responsible for magnetism and electricity. Strong enough magnets have been shown to allow objects to levitate, even ones that aren’t traditionally considered magnetic, such as a grasshopper or some flowers.
Now, the previous three forces all have force-carrying particles so it’s believed gravity should too… right? The only problem, the graviton is merely a theoretical particle that we not only haven’t been able to observe but also don’t even know if it even exists. In fact, it isn’t even incorporated into the Standard Model.
Gravity waves are another theoretical aspect of Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity and is the last aspect that has yet to be observed. With a waveform, you have a lot more control over when this force is applied and at what strength. Imagine producing a gravity wave that contracts space between you and an object. It may appear to be pulled towards you. Taking a look at the anatomy of a lightsaber, the design is pretty ambiguous. The handle contains a couple real and fictional components such as a power conductor, a crystal plasma source, a few energy modulators, and a magnetic stabilizer. In the time it would take me to describe how to possibly make all of these things combined into a light saber, it would likely already exist, so instead let’s take a look at what a lightsaber with the properties seen in the movies and what it would be like. It all starts with John 117. Basically he was kidnaped as a kid and pumped with performance altering drugs and growth hormones. The success rate for transforming a small child into a giant fighting machine is apparently pretty low. So yeah, it’s pretty amazing this guy can even mentally function let alone save the planet. Anyway, as a full grown man, John is 287 pounds (131 kilograms) and stands 6 feet 7 inches tall (about 2 meters). To put it into perspective, Andre the Giant was a 7 foot 4 inches tall (2.24 meters) wrestler from France. Coming in at at 550 lb (255 kg), not only was he tall, but he was massive. So although John is big, he isn't’ that big. What makes Chief so powerful is of course his set of armor. According to lore, “The MJOLNIR powered assault armor is a technologically-advanced combat exoskeleton system designed to vastly improve the strength, speed, agility, and reflexes of a spartan super soldier. This suit then brings John up to 7 feet tall and about 1,000 lb (453 kg), or twice the weight as Andre the giant, but still a little shorter.
After “extensive” research on YouTube I found a number of videos about the science of Halo, in particular about Master Chief’s armor. The general consensus is that some aspects of the armor is possible to produce and that it would be relatively bullet resistant. Instead, in this video, we’re going to assume that not only does Master Chief exist with his armor containing the same properties in game, but also that the weapons in Halo exist as well. This leapfrogs all of the obvious questions like, “how could a man control a suit of armor weighing as much as an elephant”, and “could energy shields exist and if so could they stop bullets”. For the record, a few companies are working on energy shields, but they only really work against fire or pressure waves, not projectiles or shrapnel, but we’ll get back to that.
In the game, the sniper rifle fires a 14.5x115 mm armor piercing round with a bullet weight of 64 grams. This round travels at a speed of 1450 meters per second, or 5.5 times the speed of a Boeing 777. It’s based on a Russian cartridge historically used in anti-tank weapons but more recently in anti-air weaponry. In flight, this round has the same energy as a baseball traveling 2154 miles per hour (963 m/s) and Chief’s armor has to catch it. By the way, one sniper round is enough to deplete the shield and another is enough to puncture the titanium armor, which makes sense because it's the energy and equivalent of 38 standard 5.56 rounds. But this means that this bullet needs to go from 1450 meters per second to a dead stop, in 6 inches of energy shield. Because this round is armor piercing, the tip is extremely hard which prevents it from being crushed. This results in a force of 883 kN and a localized pressure of 4.1 Giga Pa (595,000 psi). The fact that the energy field doesn’t puncture under these types of pressures puts it in a league of its own above basically any composite, metallic alloy, or ceramic material known to man.
Because the shield is not rigidly connected to Chief, it’s hard to know exactly how the suit would react to an impact of this magnitude. If the shield did transfer the force onto Chief he would be accelerated backward at the equivalent of nearly 200 earth gravity's but only momentarily. In fact, it’s so quick he would only stumble backwards a few inches. In terms of momentum, it would be like an unarmored person getting hit with a 99 mph fastball. It’s going to hurt but it won’t necessarily knock you off your feet.
In the game though, one sniper shot is enough to fully deplete the energy shield. As the second bullet impacts, the extremely hard core would pierce its way into the titanium armor and through the subsequent layers of the suit. With an impact of this magnitude, there aren’t a lot of materials that could save Chief at this point including titanium armor. Like in real life, chief goes down pretty hard.

The moon was formed far before humans ever walked the planet and will likely stick around long after we’re gone, but what if the Moon just disappeared?
If the moon could disappear, it would do so in either two ways. The first is turn into a black hole. The black hole that would be left would obviously have different physical characteristics, but its effect on the planet Earth would would remain constant, including the tides and any gravitational effects. So how big would this black hole be? The radius would be significantly smaller than you’d probably expect. The Schwarzschild radius is the radius of the resultant sphere if all the mass of an object were to be compressed to the point the escape velocity from the surface of the sphere would equal the speed of light. For the earth, this radius would be about 8.7 mm, but for the moon the radius would be only 0.11 mm. Basically the moon would become the most dangerous spec of dust in earth's orbit.
The moon could never turn into a black hole. That’s just not how it works. But what if the moon just vanished? The tidal bulge is like a big rubber band. When let go, it would ripple back and forth around the globe flooding coastal regions but ultimately balancing out returning the coastline sea level to a somewhat normal level. Plus, the sun is responsible for about 30% of the tides anyways so at least the surfers will be happy. Some nocturnal animals would have trouble. Although the moon only reflects about 12% of the sunlight that hits it, without the moon the next brightest object in the night sky would be Venus. But if you asked the sun or any of the other planets, they wouldn’t notice a change at all and after a few thousand years, life on Earth wouldn’t either.
The interesting part about the moon disappearing, in contrast to the sun disappearing, is that life would continue. If the sun disappeared, Earth would be launched into the darkness that is space and we’d freeze to death within days. But if the moon disappeared, scientists would have a pretty big question on their hands. It’s been theorized and partially proven that subatomic particles could evaporate and reappear instantaneously across vast distances, but when you take objects on the macroscopic level, these theories don’t mesh well with the theory of relativity. If the moon vanished, it could possibly provide clues to bridge the gap between the world of the tiny and the world of the large.

In Gears of War, the COG army outfits their soldiers with the Mark 2 Lancer. The Mark 2 Lancer features a chainsaw bayonet as an upgrade from the original Mark 1’s standard bayonet to help get through the thick skin of the locust horde. Not only is this weapon system extremely cool looking, it’s also very effective. With that said, could the lancer actually exist?
Asside from the chainsaw bayonet, there’s nothing really keeping the Lancer from existing in the real world. Aside from the somewhat awkward butt stock,p0p0p0 this weapon can technically contain all the moving parts required to be a fully0 operational automatic rifle...except oddly there’s no discharge port for spent casings. Would it be a particularly effective system? It’s hard to tell. The Lancer has a bulky metal construction and a somewhat short barrel length. It might have been better suited as a bullpup design which would not only lengthen the barrel, but could also introduce a more robust stock. The reduction in weight with a composite shell could have assisted in making the weapon more manageable due to the front heavy chainsaw system reducing vertical recoil. To be fair though, this redesign would introduce a lot of flaws that could take years to re-engineer.
Taking a look at the interior mechanism, it’s clear that some significant modifications would need to be done to allow for a proper feed from the magazine. To accommodate this, a dual sided split magazine was implemented to allow the rounds to pass around the saw blade. Because the saw teeth sit directly where the soldier would traditionally place their hand to grip the front of the rifle, it would be very important to implement a safety feature. Without it, the average number of fingers in the COG army would like be about six or seven. A simple solution would be a pressure plate on the front grip to initiate the saw and a sensor on the pistol grip to validate both hands are safely positioned.
To better understand the chainsaw bayonet, let’s take a deeper look into the guts of the weapon. The front grip would need to house all and any moving components responsible for the main saw mechanism. From an engineering standpoint, a coupled screw gear system would allow for the desired motion to take place in a somewhat small package, though the torque and power requirements may be too great for our current technology. The rear gear would be a specially welded gear consisting of two smaller gears and a single large gear. The large gear would be sandwiched between the smaller gears which would be powered by a two parallel screw gears. This motion would then cause the large gear to to run the chain. Though this gear and screw system seems complicated, it’s used in many applications including your car’s drive shaft, though in a slightly different configuration.
So now that the mechanics are somewhat proven as at least plausible, where would the fuel be be stored? In the game, Emulsion is a glowing substance dense with usable energy. Could emulsion be the fuel used to power the chainsaw? This is a hard question to answer since Emulsion is highly volatile compared even to other liquid fuels and the fact it is a 100% fantasy material, its physical properties are mostly undocumented. In fact, other than the sound and smoke appearing when the chainsaw is reved, there’s no indication that the Lancer even consumes fuel at all. The only other alternative would be electric, though the smoke still remains unexplained.
When you’re talking about future technology, it’s easy to bound the discussion on what exists today. As famously stated, “there are things you know, there are things you know you don’t know, and then there are things you don’t even know that you don’t know”. In the case of the Lancer, there’s a lot there that our technology could piece together and there are some things that come into question, but the solution to the questions may lie within future technology we can’t even conceive yet. Minecraft on PC features the largest world possible of any version of minecraft. In practical terms, the terrain generation engine can can generate infinite number of blocks in any direction, but the game itself limits the world with a boarder 60 million by 60 million blocks. The world is limited to this size due to hard drive constraints. With each block assigning 4 bits of information, Minecraft is technically about 410,000 terabytes at it’s largest. With each Minecraft block being 1 meter by 1 meter by 1 meter, Minecraft’s overworld surface area tops out at 3.6 billion square kilometers (1.4 billion miles). To put this into perspective, the Minecraft overworld has about 7.1x more surface area than the Earth itself. Every person who has ever lived, who is alive today, and who will ever live could have been contained in only a small portion of a Minecraft world which is pretty amazing.
In Minecraft, the overworld isn’t the only place you can visit. The nether is an alternate reality filled with lava and strange creatures. The nether shares the same coordinate system as the overworld but with a scaling factor of 1 to 8, meaning 1 block distance is equal to 8 blocks in the overworld. With this reduction, the nether is about 53 million square kilometers which is still about 5.7x larger than the United States and 40% the landmass of Earth. So let’s say Minecraft with the overworld acting as the surface and the nether acting as a moon. The planet would be about 2 and a half times wider than Earth and 5 times wider than Mars. The nether on the other hand would be somewhere between Mercury and Io. With these comparisons it becomes pretty clear just how much real estate there is in Minecraft.
If the entire size of Minecraft Overworld and Nether were to be maxed out and stored on hard drives, it would require a facility that only companies like Google, Amazon, or Microsoft could support. To put this into perspective, 300 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube every second which accounts for about 1.1 terabytes per second of video. The minecraft world would require the same space as 297 days worth of YouTube uploads. Judging from the Google mega facilities, this would be very expensive to maintain.
But let’s assume Minecraft was not limited by the language in which it was written or the hardware that was running on. Assuming an infinitely large hard drive fueling the infinitely generating world, what would this mean? If the nether is only ⅛th the size of the overworld and the overworld is infinite, wouldn’t that mean the nether was infinite? Infinite isn’t big, it isn’t enormous, it isn’t tremendous, infinity just is… Infinity is not a number, it’s an idea. It’s an idea that instils adventure, but also complacency. When you know you can’t see everything, sometimes you begin to feel as if you want to do nothing. Without boundaries some people lack the ability to function because either deciding what they want to do prevents them from doing anything. This is why Minecraft is such a great tool. It allows people to be in a world where anything is possible, without boundaries, expectations, or goals. In this world, you can gain experience in building wonderful things for the internal enjoyment alone even if you know nobody will ever see it. This experience is intrinsic to that of an infinite world of infinite possibilities. Because of this, Minecraft is much bigger than anyone could ever have imagined. Pluto In 2006 a relatively light spacecraft was strapped to a relatively gigantic rocket with the mission to fly within 10,000 kilometers (6,200 mi) of Pluto. On its way it picked up speed as well as photos of Jupiter and its volcanic moon Io. A lot can happen in nine years. For starters Pluto was demoted from a planet to a dwarf planet and a few more moons were discovered.
On approach, New Horizons snapped this some pretty amazing photos of the dwarf planet, though the finer details were still to come.
At approximately 3:00 pm eastern time on July 13th, New Horizons took this closer image of the the planet that shows a lot more detail. Sometime later more detailed image of Charon, Pluto’s largest moon emerged.
After nine years, traveling over 13,400 meters per second (30,000 mph), New Horizons made the 4.8 billion kilometers (3 billion miles) trek at 7:38 am July 14th 2015. New Horizons flew past the dwarf planet with all power resources devoted to taking measurements.To minimize damage to the spacecraft, it flew inside the orbit of Charon which acts like a garbage collector for rocks and debri as it orbits.
Eleven minutes later at 7:49 New Horizons made its closest approach within 7,800 miles. Taking highly detailed images of Pluto showing mountains, plains, and ice caps in unprecedented detail. It then traveled through Pluto's shadow at 8:51am to examine pieces of the atmosphere that were being torn away from the sun.
Over the next few months there will be more images, and more discoveries. Only about 1 to 2% of all data collected during the flyby has been received over the 1 kilabit data transfer rate. But New Horizon’s mission is not yet complete. Thankfully due to the plutonium power plant on board this craft will continue to explore.

In the Witcher 3, the main character can use a number of different spells and magic. One of the more popular one is Igni. According to the game, Ignis is the sigil of combustion. Used to ignite flammable material. This spell is essentially a standard fireball spell, doing first to third degree burns. Un-flammable enemies (like gargoyles and golems) may not remain alight as long as flammable enemies.Sorcerers have been known to increase the potency of this sigil to call forth fire from the heavens.
How exactly this works is unknown, but it is clear that combustion is taking place. What then must his magic require to invoke combustion? Fuel, temperature, and an oxidizer would allow Geralt to create flame with igni. In Geralt’s case, the oxidizer is easy to find. The air he breathes contains 20% oxygen which is more than enough to combust a fuel source, but it’s not made clear what he uses as a fuel. Since it wouldn’t contribute to gameplay, this detail is overlooked from a scientific perspective, but one could infer that he gathers ingredients from the plants, animals and minerals he finds in his journey. A simple approach would be fine grain or powdered aluminum. If dispersed in the air it can be ignited.
The way powdered material becomes explosive is actually quite simple. When an object catches fire it can only do so on the surface. A large piece of material has a fairly small surface area. If it was broken down into a powder it can have exponentially more surface area meaning it can ignite and release more of its energy at once. Even objects traditionally not thought of as being flammable can be quite explosive. Ignite with a catalyst and boom, you have Igni.

Hey guys this is Mike, what if the Sun just disappeared? Matter at the scale of the sun can’t really disappear which is great news. If the sun were to shrink into a black hole, most of what makes the sun important to us would be taken away, but ultimately in terms orbits nothing much would change. Though it would bring other problems with it.
We don’t know much about gravity, but what we do know is that gravity waves travel at the speed of light. This means that if the sun suddenly vanished, the planets would continue to orbit around where the sun used to be. Although the speed of light is really fast, the planets are really really far from the sun. At the same time the sun vanished from the sky, the sun’s gravitational pull would also vanish.
After the sun vanished all of the planets would progressively be let loose of their orbit and would travel tangent to their orbit in straight paths at a speed equal to the rate they are traveling around the sun multiplied by the distance they are away from it. It would take mercury 3.2 minutes before they saw the sun disappear, venus would take about 6 minutes, people on earth would see it in 8.3 minutes, the mars rover would witness it in 12.7 min, jupiter in 43.3 min, saturn 1.3 hours, uranus 2.7 hours, and neptune wouldn’t know the sun disappeared for 4.2 hours.
When the earth is let loose it would be traveling at about 30 km/s. That’s pretty quick, but there’s really no where to go. In a lot of ways, direction is more important than speed. It’s most likely the earth would be launched out into some dark portion of space, reaching the nearest star system in hundreds if not millions of years. The closest star system to the solar system is Alpha centari. Even traveling at 30 km/s, it would take over 42,000 years to get there. That seems like a long time to use today, but 42,000 years ago humans were already the most dominate species on the planet.
Unfortunately the planet would get very very cold, but not as fast as you’d think. In space, convection and conduction are not present. Therefore, because the planet is mostly molten rock and iron, the earth would take thousands and thousands of years to radiate its heat off. The surface would become too cold for people, but people are only really good at living in a narrow band of temperature ranges and to make it worse, people only live on the most minor edge of the planet where ice would form an further insulate the planet. Most life on the surface is solar powered and therefore would die, but with nuclear energy, it may be possible to generate enough heat energy to maintain pockets of life on the planet as well as power for lights, and other necessary electronics.
If the sun were to vanish, there would most definitely be ultimate chaos around the world. My question is, what would your solution for the survival of humans? Leave me your responses in the comments down below.

If you missed my previous video about how tall minecraft steve is, let me catch you up. This guy is 6’ 6” with 3’ wide shoulders. In other words, he’s a big dude. Still, with his build he can carry around a surprisingly large amount of resources.
But how much can Steve cary?
Let’s take a look at the volume he can carry. Again, a minecraft block is 1m square meaning each of its sides are 1 meter and it has a volume of 1 square meter. A block this large, regardless of weight, wouldn’t be very easy to carry around. With an inventory of 36 slots, each with 64 blocks, that’s a total of 2304 blocks. This is the equivalent to about 154 thousand grocery bags.
This isn’t only a volume problem. Some of the items in Minecraft are really dense. For example, each gold block would have a mass of 19,300 kg. With 2,304 blocks, that's about 45 million kilograms or about 98 million lbs. This is just over 26% of all gold mined on Earth… ever. In real life, this much material would require 98 of the largest trucks on the planet. If steve had a standard backpack, each shoulder would have to withstand the same force as about 2500 full school buses on each shoulder.
It seems that Steve has more in common with SpaceX and NASA than he does with other humans. Steve can jump 1 meter (or 3 feet) into the air. If Steve jumped like a regular person, it would require 10.1 million pounds of vertical thrust from his legs. Since Steve doesn’t require rockets, he would need to consume 105,508 calories per jump.
Needless to say, if you’re a calorie dense food (fat) then you want to stay away from Steve because he’d need every chance he could to take in energy especially if he had a long hike.

In the game Minecraft, you control a character named steve. But how tall is steve and how does he stack up to the most dangerous places and objects?
As a baseline, ever block in Minecraft is said to be 1 meter by 1 meter by 1 meter. With that said, each of these blocks are 16 pixels long. This means that each pixel is about 6.25 cm long.
Jumping back to steve, his head is 8 pixels square meaning his head is 50 cm (19.7”). His torso is 10 pixels or 62.5 cm (24.6”), his arms are 12 pixels or 75 cm (29.5”) and his legs are 14 pixels or 87.5 cm (34.4”) giving Steve a total height of 32 pixels or 200 cm or about 6.6”. On top of that, his shoulders are just over 3 feet across… Not the kind of guy you want to run into in the forest.
So how does Steve stack up to the world of Minecraft?
Well for starters, this typical tree is 7 meters tall (23’) and this villager structure is 11 meters (36’). If you were to jump off this building it’d be like jumping out of the fourth floor window but for Steve this isn’t a problem.
Now to the bad guys. An enderman is big dude at 2.9 m tall (9.4’). A creeper on the other hand is only 1.6 m or just over 5’. The skeleton is about the same height as Steve at 1.9 m or just over 6’ while the zombie is about the same height as Steve. The scary one would be the spider that is 1.7 m or 5’6” long with meter long legs (3.3’). If it had fangs they would be about 0.3 m or almost a foot long!
The terrain in minecraft is also quite a sight. Steve traverses it by jumping block to block. Again, with each block 1m tall. That isn’t impossible as this guy points out, but I certainly can’t do that. Speaking of terrain, the world of minecraft is quite short. This is a jump from the highest buildable point in the game to the lowest. The fall is 250 m (820’) and takes just under 5 seconds. In contrast, a fall like this on earth would take about 7 seconds, meaning gravity in minecraft is about 75% greater than that of earth.
With that said, it’s no surprise that Steve is such a tough built dude, his body has to withstand a far greater force.
