Mini-Bar Introduction Ham Radio A2Z 2023-09-05 | This video explains what crowbar circuits are and how they work. It also introduces the MiniBar. This is a small crowbar circuit with a built-in fuse and Anderson PowerPoles for the input and output. It is designed to go between a power supply and transceiver, or any other sensitive, electronic load.The Mini-Bar is designed to trip at about 15 volts. This is conservatively below the maximum voltage for most radios. At the same time, it is well above the normal power supply voltage of 13.8 volts and also well above normal automotive alternator charging voltages.I plan to sell the MiniBars once I get production and pricing worked out. IC-7100 Accessory Audio Squelch Circuit Ham Radio A2Z 2022-08-07 | This is just a quick to share some success I just had building an audio switching circuit to squelch the audio coming out of the ACCessory connector. One of the quirks with the IC-7100 is that the audio out of the accessory jack does not go through the squelch circuit. That means that on a VHF/UHF FM frequency, you would hear constant white noise/static if you pipe this audio to your car stereo or any other amplifier system.The Accessory connector does have a pin that tells you if the squelch is opened or closed. So I connected the squelch output to the audio switch and piped that output into my truck audio system. Now I have squelched audio!I intend to make this into a full project video in the future.I am considering designing a printed circuit board for this circuit. Icom USB Drivers & Windows 11 Ham Radio A2Z 2022-06-30 | My laptop upgraded to Windows 11 and mysteriously forgot how to talk to my Icom radio.This is a short video to go through the process of fixing that in case anyone else is having a similar issue.My issue occurred with my IC-7300. I expect this issue affects any USB connected Icom radio with Windows 11, at least on some computers.

Quartzfest 2022 Pico Balloon Launch Ham Radio A2Z 2022-01-29 | This is a video of a couple of Pico Balloon launches at Quartzfest 2022.Pico Balloons are ultra-light balloons and payloads that are designed to rise to a set altitude and then remain at that altitude. Some Pico Balloons have gone around the world multiple times before they were lost.5 balloons were launched at Quartzfest this year. 4 of the balloons have APRS transmitters on them. So their locations will only be reported when they are over a populated area and in range of an APRS gateway receiver. The 5th balloon has both an APRS transmitter and a WSPR transmitter operating on 20 meters.
