Combat veterans Dr Raymond Christian (Army) and Samuel Williams (Marines) share stories with Stuart Mangrum (Air Force) about transitioning into civilian life, bringing survival skills and leadership chops to BRC, and finding tribal camaraderie… and a party.They explore how hackneyed clichés of the military can wither in an environment of love and authenticity. The Evolution of Robot Heart Burning Man Project 2024-04-03 | Robot Heart started with a simple sound system on an old double-decker bus at Black Rock City. Over the years, it has evolved into a bespoke sound system, light arrays, iconic art, and an all-star lineup of musical talent performing to massive crowds at sunrise on Playa.… all on that same old double-decker bus.Robot Heart also expanded its support of arts and artists beyond the playa, including New York’s Central Park, Miami’s Art Basel, and their residency program in Oakland, California. Tahoe Mack and the Monumental Mammoth Burning Man Project 2024-03-06 | This is one of those full-circle stories that makes our dusty hearts glow a little brighter. It’s the tale of big art that emerged from a fossil-filled trash heap, came to life in Black Rock City, then returned to its source as a proud symbol of what a community can accomplish together. Tahoe Mack the Las Vegas artist tells the story of the Black Rock City Honoraria art piece she started when she was 15 years old. Her final Girl Scouts project became, oh, so much more. Over a few years she learned to weld and fundraise, and work with acclaimed artists Dana Albany and Luis Varelo-Rico.Her vision drew attention to an urban park with a rich archaeological history. Built from metal detritus that had accumulated there, “The Monumental Mammoth” dazzled Burners in Black Rock City 2019 and is now a permanent installation at a trailhead near the fossil field that inspired the artist’s journey, and forged new connections between dozens of people.

It aroused a lot of conversation at Black Rock City 2023. It’s the phallic symbol’s sister. Over the past few years, people around the world are recognizing that we are living in a time of compounding disasters, and we’re starting to expect them. Seasons of wildfires, poor air quality, excessive heat, hurricanes, and other climate disasters are hitting wider swaths of the global community every year. Climate disasters, political disasters, and economic disasters are no longer isolated to a time or a place. They are beginning to emerge as a single, continuous event.This call includes practical information, stories, and tips to prepare ourselves and support others in response to a variety of different disasters, with a specific focus on food sovereignty. Establishing Roots promotes urban agricultural development- place-based initiatives that are agile, community-driven, and represent what's possible when you build strong community frameworks proactively. This group is rooted in Arizona, which is a frontline of the climate crisis. Grassroots Aid Partnership responds to disasters with field kitchens that can serve thousands of meals per day, pop-up food & aid pantries, logistical assistance and disaster expertise. Burners Without Borders Civic Activation: Burners With Bees Burning Man Project 2023-05-04 | Burners Without Borders presents “Burners With Bees.” In this call we meet three leaders of bee-centric projects from around the world: Bee Safe is a conservation, repopulation, and youth education project in Zipacon, Colombia, aimed at creating a propitious habitat for bee colonies spread among 40 artisanal hives in which 80,000 native specimens can thrive. The project leaders are Catalina Guevara and Pablo Escola; presentation by Charlotte de Casabianca from BWB Bogota.Fly Ranch Bee TeamMassimo Marraotto is part of the team responsible for bringing bees to Fly Ranch, Nevada. With a long-term goal of fostering pollinators' habitat and population at Fly Ranch, the Bee team has worked for a year to observe and plan. In March 2023, the Bee team met to build the first honey bee homes for this spring's installation; they're hoping to install them by May 2023.The 2023 Man Base Designer and installation artist Tim Brenner shares his inspiration behind this year's winning Man Base design, "Hive." Boundless Creativity Burning Man Project 2023-04-17 | In 2022, three remarkable artists from México — Luis Sánchez, Tania Quezada and Víctor López — were invited to create murals for the interior of the Man Pavilion in Black Rock City. Supported by Nueve Arte Urbano founder Édgar Sánchez and producer Ivonne Uribe, the artists set to work preparing spiritually and logistically, spending long hours creating their murals. This film, produced by Nueve Arte Urbano, speaks about the purpose and impact of Burning Man, and introduces the artists and their work. I Can Do Anything — A Letter to the Burning Man Community from a Black Man Burning Man Project 2023-04-13 | Alba Roland Mejia is an Afro-Latina, queer filmmaker based in Oakland, California, whose films focus on the African diaspora. She visited Black Rock City for the first time in 2022 and shot this project on Super 8mm film. It features Rob Smith, aka Black Rock Smitty, reciting a passage from his 2020 piece, “A Letter to the Burning Man Community from a Black Man.”"This experimental short is an intimate, character-focused exploration of the unique black experience at Burning Man. It was not my priority to capture Burning Man itself, but the energy exchange that it has with the present black bodies.
