Jaco Pastorius - Come On, Come Over (BASS COVER) Stuart Clayton 2022-12-09 | ‘Come On, Come Over’ is the second track from Jaco Pastorius’ landmark debut album. Released in August 1976, this was an album that changed everything for bass players, proving beyond doubt that the bass guitar was a powerful vehicle for soloists as well as for groove players. This track is an R&B number featuring legendary vocalists Sam and Dave. It’s also home to one of Jaco’s best-known fingerstyle funk grooves, a line that can be devilishly challenging to play accurately.I performed the line using my Mayones Viking bass strung with Rotosound strings. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stone Cold Bush (BASS COVER) Stuart Clayton 2022-11-11 | ‘Stone Cold Bush’ is from Mother’s Milk, the fourth album from Red Hot Chili Peppers. Released in 1989, the album gave the band three hit singles: ‘Higher Ground’, ‘Knock Me Down’ and ‘Taste the Pain’. It was this track however that had the bass players hooked: Flea is on top form throughout, combining tight fingerstyle grooves with aggressive slap lines, and of course turning in a jaw-dropping bass solo. Nate Watts incredible bassline on Stevie Wonders Signed, Sealed, Delivered (LIVE) Stuart Clayton 2022-10-27 | 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours’ is a classic Stevie Wonder track, one that is still played live to this day. The original version was recorded at Motown back in 1970, with session bassist Bob Babbitt holding down the low end. This live version – taken from Stevie’s live album Natural Wonder – has Nate Watts on bass and is an astonishing performance. Nate uses elements of Babbitt’s original line but embellishes it considerably with many Jamerson-influenced fills, chromatic approach tones, slides, shakes and more. Dua Lipa Dont Start Now (BASS COVER) Stuart Clayton 2022-09-08 | ‘Don’t Start Now’ is a disco/funk song from English singer Dua Lipa’s second album, Future Nostalgia. It was a big hit when released as a single in October 2019 and has since become a staple in many cover band sets.Although it has a live feel, the bassline for this song was programmed by producer Ian Kirkpatrick using the Scarbee MM bass plug-in (which models a Music Man bass). The line can be easily replicated on electric bass, although a 5-string is required for some of the low notes during the bridge sections. This relatively obscure track was recorded during sessions for the band's third album, The Pursuit of Accidents. It was released as the B-side to 'Are You Hearing? (What I Hear)'. Mark Kings bassline on Easy by Nik Kershaw Stuart Clayton 2021-05-14 | You can SUBSCRIBE to my video courses here: basslinepublishing.com/video-course-choiceThis video is a play-through of Mark King's bassline from 'Easy', by Nik Kershaw. This great song appeared on Nik's 1983 album The Riddle. Mark plays a slap groove throughout most of the track, although the Intro and Re-Intro sections feature a slippery fingerstyle unison line. To closely mimic Mark King's recorded tone, I used a JayDee Supernatural bass, played through a Yamaha E1010 analog delay unit for a chorused sound. The bass was strung with Rotosound strings, gauges .030, .050, .070, .090.
